So full disclosure. I have zero Erebus in the Balance experience. I only just installed it for this SG and felt it would be more appropriate not to try it out first. I'm not even that experienced in FFH2, I've played maybe a handful of games and I've never finished any of them. So lurkers, prepare to laugh: you have a total noob at the controls. What could possibly go wrong?
Turn 1
t55
Here is the empire.
If the signs are to be believed, this is an empire suffering from an excess of cheese. Not unlike
Tillamook.
Things look manageable, except for a skeleton. Well, Herp-a-Derp is shock promoted, so that should be an easy win. And at 96% odds the RNG decided not to bite us yet.
I decide that I'm going to name units after eccentric (or bat-shit crazy) geniuses. The warrior in Shivering Isles is named Pythagoras. Did you know he started his own religion? Or that he claimed he could write on the moon?
Turn 4
t58
Our winery finishes and science rates boost! I also noticed here that at some point I de-selected Mining as our tech to research, but selected none in response. I have a gripe about the F6 screen: i can't tell which techs have already been researched with the new colors. Anyway, I may have lost a turn or two, but the wineries will help out!
Another warrior finished in Shivering Isles, so I started a Freak. It seems like warriors are better things to build right now, but I've never built a Freak before so that's my logic behind building one here.
Turn 5
t59
Loki meets Varn Gosam in the west. More about Loki later, but we immediate get Open Borders with Varn.
Turn 6
t60
Nothing happened of note during the turn, but at the end of it a ton did:
#1 Pythagoras dies to a tiger at the end of turn. May his soul be reincarnated in a less crazy person's body next time.
#2
#3
#4
This would be a great time to role-play the new traits, but I can't mouse over them! So I do the next best thing:
Which means I let the guy live. I guess crazy people can do the nice thing too.
#5 Orthus was killed. I thought I had a screenshot of that but I can't find it. It happened northeast of the Varn city I found.
Turn #7
t61
New Traits: Industrious, Financial, Organized... and still Insane.
For tech, I decide on Exploration next. Roads and stuff.
Turn #8
t62
Meet our Freak!
When it says "removed after combat" is it talking about the promotion or the unit?
And not much happened after that. We got Exploration right at the end of the 10 turns, and that left us with the empire in not a very much different place than when I started. I left us building a worker and a settler, figuring we were good for defense.
Oh yeah, that Loki guy! He had a bit of a story too:
When I start the set I have a 0.3 health Loki and barbarians in sight. Nobody can reach him so I figure it's best to heal. That was the only turn of peace he got - lizards and goblins and bears lead him on a chase west for the next 6 turns. Many puppets were slaughtered but Loki himself remained unharmed, eventually finding refuge in Varn's city. I considered trying to flip the city, but that didn't seem like a nice thing to do to someone who defended the barbarians that had chased me across the map.
And I'm sure the next person won't hesitate to flip the city.
