Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

A Very Perpy SG

Ok what I've done is...

Downloaded to my documents
Unzipped
Move the .exe to my civ4 BTS mods folder
Ran the installer
Put save in (duhhh!)
Tried running the save directly, windows has to shut down as loading the save gets to the finishing stage.
Ran the basic FFH2 .exe
When loading the save from the single player saves, it tells me it needs to restart to load the modmod, I hit ok.
Same problem occurs as before, windows closes application as I reach the finishing stage.

So what do I need to do?

p.s. I got the latest 8 version in the EitB forum, do I need the one linked in the tech thread?

I think you might have missed a step in the EitB installation:

 1. Download EitB v7
 2. Run it as you described
 3. Download EitB v8 patch
 4. Run it as well, as you described
 5. Load your save

We are using whatever the latest version is.

Ok thanks Mardoc for telling me to get v7 first, I thought I might have to do something like that before using a patch.

Some turns happened

Wanna see? No Bob you smell and can't look.

T0 – So apparently someone already built Loki and flipped a city to the west (not sure how). No way to hold it so I’ll just scout around with him.

Crafting is currently selected probably to go for Mining so we can hook up our gold!

Also lots of Cheese signs on the map, I don’t get it…

Worker has nothing very useful to do at the moment, I’ll send him to improve the Cows and Banana’s (the ones below the Cheese)

T2 – Get a shiny event! Look at the shiny shiny!

Actually that sucks! No more shiny shiny. Oh wait, despite saying it subtracts from your treasury I gained around 45 gold. Either terrible reading comprehension or that could use a fix whenever another patch comes along.

Anyways I have to pick something new to build, Markets produce shiny metal, lets get one of those!

T3 – Oh noes! Another skeleton came out of the…. thingy? Those things that spawn skeletons, anyhoo the old one smacked my worker and we are down to 0 workers, just how I like to play Civ!

Also switch to Nationhoood + Agrarianism.

T6 – Orthus + Acheron appear. Acheron chooses the city we flipped and is right on the Illian border, Orthus is at a goblin fort just west of it.

T7 – Crafting à Mining

And nothing of note happens in rest of turns.

Feel free to take the save Pin, if you can play it today. I think Nic might not be around until tomorrow.

Turns 55 - 65

So full disclosure. I have zero Erebus in the Balance experience. I only just installed it for this SG and felt it would be more appropriate not to try it out first. I'm not even that experienced in FFH2, I've played maybe a handful of games and I've never finished any of them. So lurkers, prepare to laugh: you have a total noob at the controls. What could possibly go wrong?

Turn 1
t55

Here is the empire.

If the signs are to be believed, this is an empire suffering from an excess of cheese. Not unlike Tillamook.
Things look manageable, except for a skeleton. Well, Herp-a-Derp is shock promoted, so that should be an easy win. And at 96% odds the RNG decided not to bite us yet.

I decide that I'm going to name units after eccentric (or bat-shit crazy) geniuses. The warrior in Shivering Isles is named Pythagoras. Did you know he started his own religion? Or that he claimed he could write on the moon?

Turn 4
t58

Our winery finishes and science rates boost! I also noticed here that at some point I de-selected Mining as our tech to research, but selected none in response. I have a gripe about the F6 screen: i can't tell which techs have already been researched with the new colors. Anyway, I may have lost a turn or two, but the wineries will help out!

Another warrior finished in Shivering Isles, so I started a Freak. It seems like warriors are better things to build right now, but I've never built a Freak before so that's my logic behind building one here.

Turn 5
t59

Loki meets Varn Gosam in the west. More about Loki later, but we immediate get Open Borders with Varn.

Turn 6
t60

Nothing happened of note during the turn, but at the end of it a ton did:

#1 Pythagoras dies to a tiger at the end of turn. May his soul be reincarnated in a less crazy person's body next time.

#2

#3

#4

This would be a great time to role-play the new traits, but I can't mouse over them! So I do the next best thing:

Which means I let the guy live. I guess crazy people can do the nice thing too.

#5 Orthus was killed. I thought I had a screenshot of that but I can't find it. It happened northeast of the Varn city I found.

Turn #7
t61

New Traits: Industrious, Financial, Organized... and still Insane.
For tech, I decide on Exploration next. Roads and stuff.

Turn #8
t62

Meet our Freak!

When it says "removed after combat" is it talking about the promotion or the unit?

And not much happened after that. We got Exploration right at the end of the 10 turns, and that left us with the empire in not a very much different place than when I started. I left us building a worker and a settler, figuring we were good for defense.

Oh yeah, that Loki guy! He had a bit of a story too:

When I start the set I have a 0.3 health Loki and barbarians in sight. Nobody can reach him so I figure it's best to heal. That was the only turn of peace he got - lizards and goblins and bears lead him on a chase west for the next 6 turns. Many puppets were slaughtered but Loki himself remained unharmed, eventually finding refuge in Varn's city. I considered trying to flip the city, but that didn't seem like a nice thing to do to someone who defended the barbarians that had chased me across the map.

And I'm sure the next person won't hesitate to flip the city.

For pin:

Loki has to be surrounded to be killed (or maybe if he's in a city), so there's generally no need to heal him. The "removed after combat" refers to the Stoneskin promotion, which is normally granted by a spell. That's basically a null Freak you've got there.
