Oops, wait, I forgot to answer the most important question: Ideas for a naming scheme!
My first thought is to go with the names of famous or interesting Chess openings and/or defenses, starting with your favorites, or the ones with the most interesting names.
Another alternative would be to take a cue from shallow_thought and go with something relating to Hideyoshi's invasion of the mainland. For instance, I harvested the names of the various sites of Japanese victories in their early invasion:
Well, we got something to think about. The Scout did as expected discover an oasis. It turns out that there is a very nice wet Wheat right next to it! Hmm, I`m not sure where our second city should go now. Building next to those resources is terribly tempting. Also, there is a Gems there but it`s jungled so it won`t come into play for a good while.
Regarding that naming scheme, we probably should go for something related to China or Japan. Your list sounds good to me. I`ll rename the city next turn. I can make a list of chess openings (or something similar) some other time.
As for planning ahead, well, I`m undecided on the best course of action after our Worker is finished. We could go for a standard size 3 Settler, growing on a Warrior. Another option is going Settler already on size 2, as we have exactly 2 good tiles to work and can chop it out quickly. We have some good spots to settle nearby. I think waiting until size 4 before starting a Settler is a bit too late with this start.
Hopefully someone will offer to play the turns for a few days this week. I probably should advertise on Civ General later today if no one shows up.

I've been hoping someone with more experience of simply connecting etc. than me was going to turn up. In particular, finding time to play on Thu 19 is likely to be tight (family party at my house), especially if anything goes a bit wrong with the connection. OTOH, it's just moving a scout - how wrong can I go?
But I can have a go if there's no good alternative. I've updated my hosts file, and can try to connect at some point if you're happy for me to test. RtR 2.0.8.3, right, not the .4 version being used in PB38?
Oh, I'm unspoiled, at least.

Thanks for the offer! That would make things easier for me. You`ll get to decide where to move that Scout for a few turns.
Feel free to log in to the game any time. We`re using 2.0.8.3, the same mod as in PB 37.
Regarding Thursday 19, I`ll ask for someone to play a turn that day in the tech thread. If no one answers that (and you are unavailable) I think that a small pause is warranted.

Logged in and out no problems. Let's assume that I can play on Thu - maybe RefSteel can monitor the situation and ask for a pause if I've not played by 22:00 BST? If I get time to turn my computer on it's a 3 minute job!

Our Scout headed east and found even more quality tiles. Well, I could easily see us prioritizing this area in the near future. The demos didn`t show anything exiting this turn but I`ll post them if something changes. Next turn we`ll get a better view of the surroundings of our capital when borders pop.
As the others had already played some 12 hours ago, I got to play another double turn. Our borders popped in the capital and to the west a few tiles were revealed..
um, not much to be happy about there. Perhaps our Copper is situated that way? Anyway, the SE looks interesting indeed. Note the coast Clams there plus the Whales for an extra happiness. That area is certainly in our sphere of interest.
After thinking about where to move the Scout, it was decided to continue eastwards. Even more high quality food was revealed. Let`s prioritize getting a solid share of that. Our Scout could try to find out just how far out of sight our nearest neighbor is.
Looks like I'll be able to play about 4h after the turn roll tomorrow. Let me know your thoughts if they expand to more than "Eastward"!
Are barbs on for this game? I guess other questions are whether you want me to be cautious around other players ("run away!") or trust to their good intentions, and whether you want to try to sneak a look at a capital (from a corner hill, not declaring war) if one is just a few tiles away?

Great! Taking a look at the capital of a neighbor sounds good to me. You know what, I`ll leave the specifics up to you. You can go east or north. Just keep in mind that animals start to appear now and keep to defensive terrain as far as possible. Barbs are on but they don`t appear before more cities are built. I don`t think our Scout will be threatened by an enemy unit over the next few turns but if it is, I`d say run away. Oh, and stay clear of Bears. The goal is to find out how far away the next civ is on that side, as I`d like to grab that lush area for ourselves.
So, the plan is to go Bronze Working - The Wheel - Pottery. I don`t think there is any reason to switch research at this stage. When the Worker is done, it should farm the nearest wet Corn (but I`ll probably be back before Worker movement is an issue). Then the plan is to grow on a Warrior. Keep working the Flood Plains until the Worker is finished. (In case of emergency, you can of course swap to a Warrior, working hammer tiles).
