[SPOILERS] Parkin brings the rain down in Africa: Churchill of Zulu

OH means saving cash before building Oxford is good because you save your money as usual but get to spend it with the Oxford research modifier in place. So you get more beakers for the same amount of cash. The tradeoff is that you're probably delaying the turn that next tech comes in if you're waiting to finish building Oxford. So it's more efficient to wait, the question OH asked is if you needed that tech right away (can't afford to wait for it) or if you can wait on it and be more efficient converting cash to beakers by running the cash through a completed Oxford.

Ah, ok, that makes a lot of sense.

Turn 192

In world news, the Egyptian civilization ceased to exist as the Germans, lead by their Kaiser Mackoti, captured their last city. Strangely, Gawdzak made peace with retep then signed a DP with wetbandit, and mackoti then went on to storm the last city and take it for his own. Retep managed to generate a great general in the final battle, which did him no good at all. Mackoti also got another GG out of that last battle. Wetbandit got a Great Scientist the same turn his GA ended.

Domestically, Sitatunga’s borders popped this turn, but it didn’t budge haram’s cultural borders. On the other hand, Yak pushed back one tile of haram’s, so things are doing better on that border. I decided to send a scout into mackoti’s new territory to see how he and Gawdzak divided up retep’s empire, but it’ll take a few turns to get there.

Next GP isn’t due for 17 turns, and there’s not much I can do to speed that up, I’m afraid. Another “not much to report” turn. Stuff is getting built. Seven and I’s power graphs are very close, but he’s currently the leader in score and food, with mackoti dominating production. I’ll take shots of the graphs next turn.

Turns 193 & 194

Sorry about the lag in reporting – Thanksgiving time has been busy, so I was able to play my turns, but not much else. But now I have a little bit of time to catch up on reporting.

In world news, on T193 wetbandit built the Swedagon Paya and Gawdzak and Seven signed a DP. On T194, Seven got a GP.

So now, the diplomatic situation looks like:

I offered a DP to Seven and Gawdzak to see what happens. Also, my 40gpt “tribute” to mackoti was able to be cancelled this turn, so I cut him off. Speaking of mackoti, he is now 1 turn from Railroad. He is teching like crazy, getting new (and expensive) techs in just a couple of turns. I can now see research on everyone but Gawdzak. Seven is 1 turns from SciMethod, wetbandit is on 0% for Biology, and haram is going for Printing Press (2 turns).

Domestically I’ve got about 30% of my cities building units on a rotating basis so that they can get in their infrastructure builds as well. Other than that, not much to report. I’ll have Astronomy next turn.

Haram, with Chemistry and Astronomy now has Frigates and Galleons. I’m ahead of him in GNP, but it’s a slow lead.

Graphs:
GNP:

Prod:

Crops:

Power:

So mackoti doesn't have the game won yet, though he, Gawdzak and Seven are all leaps and bounds ahead of wetbandit, haram and I.

Turn 195

In world news, Seven agreed to a DP with me. Mackoti is now going after Combustion. He wants Oil!

Domestically, still not much happening. Finished a chop near Ape which will complete its Granary. We discovered Astronomy and began pursuing Chemistry, which is now 3 turns out. My first University will be complete in 5 turns, with the next 7 coming in over the following 5 turns. So I should be able to start Oxford in 10 turns, and it will take 6 turns to build. I can speed that up a couple of turns if I chop some of the Universities in the slower-producing cities. Is it typically worth it to do so? They're all 12+ population.

Depends if you're running 0% for a while before you build it. If you need to get some techs by turn X then you'll have to figure out how many beakers you'll miss out on due to the delay or the whips, if there is no time pressure then you can just save up more cash...

I don't think there's a huge amount of time pressure...seems more likely the extra money would be better saved than pushing out Oxford 2 turns earlier at the cost of about 8 population points. With DPs in place, I'm not too worried about being attacked in the next 15-20 turns. Beyond that, though, I expect it to happen. Most likely haram will be the next target, probably of either Seven or mackoti, since he shares borders with the three of us and he's the lowest in power numbers and score.

Turn 196

In world news, Gawdzak generated a GM.

And in domestic news, I actually had to come back here and check what I wrote for T195 because I could have sworn I had 3 turns left on Chemistry, and I was running 60% science on the slider...because when I logged in, I found that I had discovered Chemistry! And I have no flipping idea how I went from 3 turns to 1 on a 60% slider...any thoughts? Even at 100% Chemistry was still going to take 2 turns, and my slider was still at 60%, so I don't know.

I set my next tech as Steel (I think either Econ or SciMethod after that), and went to 0% to build up cash because I want to upgrade at least a few triremes to frigates. Though I think it unlikely I'll be attacked, the more outdated my equipment is compared to everyone else, the more likely it is to happen. An ounce of prevention, and all that. And I'm getting over 800gpt now at 0%.

Turn 199

In world news, haram got himself a GS. Mackoti and Gawdzak assimilate their new territory.

Domestically, still a relatively calm turn. I upgraded a bunch of my triremes to frigates, and I’m still running at 0% to get more cash. First University finished in Antelope, which is where Oxford is going to go (I missed it when looking to see when the first University was coming out in the Domestic Advisor). It’s building an Observatory right now.

Looks like wetbandit may be going for a cultural win:

And mackoti’s power has leveled off:

Seven logged in when I was on, and it said he had logging turned on and to verify he was a trusted player. What does that mean?
Reply

Seven has had that feature turned on when I've played with him before. Logging enabled is just what it sounds like, his game client is configured to produce event logs that are saved to his computer. This makes sense considering the development work he's done in the past when producing map scripts, and probably for the mod, too. Having logs to review when things go wrong (and/or you crash to desktop) during development is a very useful tool.

All that said I'm not sure how or if anyone could use it for cheating, I haven't enabled the feature before and don't know exactly what data it provides. And in any case there's never been any suspicion of Seven being anything other than someone who plays within the rules.
