See the nice thing about letting OH take all my territory for free is that Jowy has ignored all naval tech and would just be super dead to OH via sea at any point for the next 20 turns + turns if OH wanted. I'm not going to, but its frustrating seeing Jowy take my cities and he has played worse than me! I'm just the one stuck in the middle.

Good luck! Someone on here paraphrased Napoleon: morale is to material as ten is to one.
I absolutely know the frustration, but if it's any comfort, no one, green or vet, wants to fight OH amphibiously, and you seem to be making a good go of it.
There is no way to peace. Peace is the way.
You're impressing the hell out of me, Mjmd. If it helps, you can basically realize that you've crushed Carthage's first player's morale. Old Harry really isn't a ton better than Pindicator in terms of skill, but he's tireless in a way that very very few others can match.
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.
I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.
The main thing is that they know what the hell they are doing. There is no reason I should have lost physics GS. I should have B-lined it much earlier.
I probably should have left 1 rifle in the Jewish Holy city, but Jowy had a knight that I thought was going to take it. Jowy being able to advance through Charriu has lost 2 cities on that flank (he outnumbers me so I don't want to take a hill fight where he can hit me back). Open borders have also let him raze and take 2 cities on the southern...... Just very frustrating being in the lead, but because I'm in the middle and have no clue what I'm doing just falling slowly.
First of all, I think you have played good and impressive game here. That said, I think you have correctly identified what's your biggest problem, which is the lack of clear goal. I have been a global lurker (and really busy lately) so could not give too much imput but it feels like your game lately has been more of going by the current than shaping it (due to being really busy I have not followed this game as closely as I usually do, so my apologies if I'm completely off here, just my impression).
It also looks like naval warfare vs competent human caught you little bit off guard, which is completely understandable. Furthermore OH is great player with ton of practice (and is still actively lurked by Pindi unless I'm mistaken) so there's no shame in struggling in complex war against them. It will get easier after first experience. It looks like the foundation of your game is solid though and once you become more ruthless and slighly less builderish your game should improve a lot. Morale is indeed really important, especially in the late game. I hope to see you playing here many games more .

Sorry I wasn't able to keep up with the lategame proceedings here Mjmd, and I want to repeat what everyone else has said about how impressed I've been with your play thus far. I do think it would be good to get more structured lategame feedback and guidance from more experienced players, it's so much easier to learn about the opening when there's a lot fewer moving pieces and there are so many games/reports to draw from. Once you get to this point in the game, people don't report in a proportional amount of detail and it's a lot murkier to try and take insights away from that.
I mean for my second pitboss its probably better than most people's second pitboss. So there is that. I'll bounce back. I've made worse mistakes. Still unsure what to do about being in the middle of the map.......
Anyways, Jowy razed ExploringFauns, which is sad because it had two settled great generals. He then sent a peace treaty. I sent back an offer of peace for 1K gold. He obviously wants to have a chance to finish off Charriu and he can't expect his advance to continue into my core. If he takes I get 1k gold. Otherwise I would love to go retake MerchantTrolls in the SE. I have a replacement settler going to the other city he razed, which I don't remember the original name of, but listen it has a deer and I need it for health reasons. So obviously I've lost a lot of production queues, but really I've only lost 1 good core city, which was Maple Sugar the first turn of the war with OH. I'm about to lose bomber to OH (the size 1 AT island city that is relevant for trade routes). Production is still miles better than Jowy or Cairo, but if there is path to victory it is going to be here: ![]() It really was inexcusable to lose physics GS. Lesson: prioritize getting the tech firsts. Anyways, free speech plus emancipation have been doing work. Unless it hasn't been worked, all worked cottages are at least villages now. Plus all the lovely infrastructure I built instead of additional military I need now..... I actually still have a 4 infrastructure builds ongoing. Statue, Oxford (I'll prob actually turn off tech after physics both to rush buy some airships, but also to wait on this), Wall Street, and a random grocer in FlyingBarbarian.
Could we get a demos/city overview screen please?
"Superdeath seems to have acquired a rep for aggression somehow.
In this game that's going to help us because he's going to go to the negotiating table with twitchy eyes and slightly too wide a grin and terrify the neighbors into favorable border agreements, one-sided tech deals and staggered NAPs."-Old Harry. PB48.
AT got eliminated and Cairo razed the border city. Thinking of resettling 1 south. I have 1 settler atm. I was going to resettle in the SE, but unsure. Would love the resources there..... I'll get sugar in my 4th ring, but don't have banana or gems. Cairo may decide to replace 1NE. He has been pretty stingy on resource deals for thee reason I've been leading I imagine....
![]() Speaking of ATs resources is that a bunch of cities became unhealthy and 1 became unhappy. Sadly all my units in the area were moved this turn and can't get there this turn. Cornbread is one of those cities that didn't have much production before universal suffrage and I kept whipping it too much, so it was never high on the list for getting a market. I actually have more infrastructure builds than I remember, but most of the other ones are in the SE. Also, you can see poor Maoi Mixed Drinks that used to be size 15 is now size 6.
Is there a stack size that stops it from glowing blue when units have promotions available? I was definitely checking the promotions in his ship stack and did not think he could reach Time. That was a nice little production city to lose....... It looks like he took a shot at Mixed Drinks, failed, and then figured out he could attack Time. I killed the Galleon flawlessly for what little it is worth.
This is just a trap right???? I can ferry in more units next turn, so I'll just sit back. If he had more coming I would think he would have just waited, but not worth the risk. ![]() Man I need settlers. QUESTION!!! Is there a penalty like for whipping to rush buy a unit 1st turn in the queue? |
