Maniac Marshall Wrote:Ooops... I DO have a proper picture hosted on my computer at home, I'll try to get it loaded up later tonite after work.
I also PLAN to do a rundown of all the civs, how we stand with them (we're actually friendly with EVERYONE at the moment, which is a *good* problem), and any outstanding deals we have (we have surprisingly few, and none with any of our direct boarder neighbors...) with them in the next few days if I get time.
Just one quick note to my teamates, Portugal finally replied to our email (it only took them TWELVE DAYS ) and we should have sailing when I log in later tonite, which doesn't do us any good atm, but is needed for calendar and it's associated goodies.
Also, a question about the micro plan. I don't really like having to make a monument at FS. We COULD put two chops into a library and single whip the rest, or... we could put one chop into a monument and the other into the grainery. The issue here is the gems and spices are not first ring, and we obviously want those in range asap. Let me know what you think (especially if you are for both forests going to the library.
It sounds like that chopping both forests, and then single whip the library is the best option. Since Libraries DO produce culture, you can still get the gems and spices soon, perhaps faster than the monuement's +1 culture could. We COULD save the chops later, but chopping both to get a library sounds better.

Before I forget, I need to caveat that. This assumes we have math. Otherwise, thats only 40 hammers from chops, not 60. If we don't have math, then we absolutely have to build a monument imo.
I'll wait to hear from Ref (since it'll be a week to 10 days before we have to decide on that) since we're in limbo over math anyhow, but IF we can get math, we might look into the library for sure. I plan to irrigate BOTH the FP's FS and Temminck share in the short term to get that city's pop up asap, since it doesn't have a traditional food resourse (two FP farms and 2 additiona FP's is a close second to a food bonus though)

Ah, okay. Never mind then.

Quick rant about the effing barbs. OK, so far we lost a better than 80% battle to a bear, which is tolerable, but it really crippled our early scouting. We also had a C1 warrior on a forest hill taken to 0.1/2 by a lion attacking accross a river. Last turn, we had a holkan attack a warrior in a 99.4% battle and, while he won, he was knocked to 0.4/4. Now, this turn, the chariot on the gold got attacked by a warrior. He was 99.1% to win. Well, he did win, but he's at 0.1/4. This is just completely nuts.
EDIT: I now have a picture of Temminck where it belongs in the post on the previous page.

OK, we met Carthage this turn, yea! We also got this tidbit from a chat with England.
Quote: Haphazard1,: ok
Prrsha NE, then if you go NW-NW followed by X west, you'll meet an Otto Chariot
that's in Carthage's territory
Haphazard1,: Also, NW will get you HRE next turn
This will leave our only missing contacts as France , JANK, and Ruff. If we want to meet Ruff and JANK, we'll likely have to send a chariot that way (once we have a healthy one we can spare) but I don't think either of those teams is a crucial contact fortunately.
EDIT: With this in mind, and, having sent one of those Krill redirect emails to the Ottos warning them of our approach, I've decided the best course for now is to turn Yalara around for home. She can fogbust our north and hopefully sentry against the barbarian hordes. If we need to, we can always keep Prrsha moving north.

Yeah we did, and if the barbs lay off us for a few turns so we can heal up, then, as they used to say when we played hoops on the playground, no autopsy, no foul, but we're now stretched extremely thin if they come at us with a second wave.

Thanks for the updates, Maniac! I'm here in one of my brief periods of 'net access, so since you asked:
Cull Wrote:It sounds like that chopping both forests, and then single whip the library is the best option. Since Libraries DO produce culture, you can still get the gems and spices soon, perhaps faster than the monuement's +1 culture could. We COULD save the chops later, but chopping both to get a library sounds better. Chop+Whipping the library pops second ring 1 turn slower than chopping a monument if the forest is pre-chopped to finish on the same turn (but of course AFTER) the city is founded. If the city had a better food source, this would not be the case, of course.
I think our best move will depend mainly on how many worker turns we can assign to Feng Shui, and how soon. If we can finish the first forest chop on the turn the city is founded (making sure not to complete the chop until the city exists, of course!) and complete at least the first FP farm before the turn the city is founded and assign at least two full-time workers (or the equivalent worker turns) to Feng Shui for a while, I believe we should:
[EDIT: My conclusions were right, but the details were wrong - you could tell I did this by MentalSim, couldn't you? I forgot that a FP farm takes 7t, not 5. Fixed below.]
Turn F+0: Found Feng Shui. Then WorkerA completes a chop into its monument; WorkerB farms the FP just E of the city.
Turn F+1: Monument complete; start granary. WorkerA moves to the forest just SW of the city.
Turn F+2: WorkerA chops.
Turn F+4: Chop complete.
Turn F+5: WorkerA moves to the desert 2S of the city, roads, and CANCELS orders.
Turn F+6: Grow to size 2. Farm complete. Work Farm+Farm. WorkerA moves to the fp just SE of the city and farms.
Turn F+7: WorkerB moves to WorkerA's fp, farms, and CANCELS orders. It's actually best to work fp farm + fp cottage here; if one of the two fps shared with Temminck is already farmed and the other already cottaged, do that - otherwise, Farm+Farm will do.
Turn F+8: WorkerB moves to the gems. Whip the granary - make sure to work a farm, NOT a cottage.
Turn F+9: Granary complete; start Library (or put a turn into a unit we'll want to be able to emergency-whip). WorkerB chops.
Turn F+10: (Start Library, unit on hold, if we started with a unit.)
Turn F+11: Borders pop. Farm complete. WorkerB chops.
Turn F+12: Grow to size 2, work Farm+Farm. Jungle cleared. WorkerA moves to the spices.
Turn F+13: Grow to size 3, work Farm+Farm+Farm. WorkerA chops. WorkerB mines.
Turn F+15: Grow to size 4 and work Farm+Farm+Farm+FP(cottage or farm if both shared FPs were improved prior to founding the city). Chop complete.
Turn F+16: Double-Whip Library with lots of overflow. Gems mine complete. WorkerA Plantations. Work Farm+Farm.
Turn F+17: Grow to size 3. If both shared fps were farmed before founding the city, we can work farm+farm+farm here and grow back to size 4 next turn. If not, work farm+farm+gems instead to grow in 2.
Note that if we can assign MORE worker turns, this plan can be made a lot better. The advantage of this arrangement given the situation I described is that it gets us the fastest possible border pop* and the fastest possible growth**. HOWEVER, if we can not complete the chop before the city is founded but CAN farm at least one shared fp - or if we can't assign two full-time workers (or equivilant worker turns) to the city then the 2-chop+whip library looks better.
*- Actually, the fastest border pop would come from chopping both forests into a library PLUS two second-ring out-of-culture forests into the library, all on the same turn the city is founded, to complete it on turn F+1. I assume we don't actually want to do that though.
**- Fastest growth given a fast border pop, that is. Obviously, the fastest growth would mean chopping both forests into a granary early on - but that would delay the border pop unreasonably unless we chopped out-of-culture forests into a monument or something equally insane.

Ok, now, the post I was in the process of making before I inadvertently threw the game into chaos for about 22hrs was this:
I couldn't sleep, so I logged into the game to name our new axeman. I decided to name him Azrael, after the cat belonging to Gargamel, the bad guy from the Smurfs. (it was at this point in typing that i heard Carthage buzz me to give me math, and I went off to commit a misclick which will live in infamy...I was about to continue with...)
For our workers, we're doing a disney cats theme (well, I have no idea where Chimeee comes from, Ref named that one, but going forward, I'd like to stick to disney cats if that's ok).
For our Holkans, I wanted to go with a Cat in the Hat theme. Specifally, from the song from the movie(Dr. Seuss, Cat Hat, Chat Chapeau, El Gato in a Sombrero etc.)
For the axes, I was thinging of aggresive cats. IE Dragon from NIMH, Azrael, and then I was thinking maybe we should find a different name for Pouncer.... although, it does sound agressive. What do you think?

In regards to that micro plan... it makes my head hurt because I'm tired and can't make heads nor tails out of it right now.
According to my micro plan we WOULD have a farm waiting for the new city, but the chop would be a turn or two late. If it's that important i can probably drag a worker down from the capital.
There ARE other forests we can chop towards a grainery, actually, but they are all 2nd ring. I think we should just put both chops into a library and whip it. It's going to be doing 1hpt, so I'm not going to sweat it being exactly on time. If we could have both chops done by the time it grows to size 2, that would be wonderbar to me.
BTW, we should have math. Carthage traded it to me just before I committed "The Misclick which will live in Infamy"™ We've yet to receive it back, but I expect we will. Technically they have to give it to us, otherwise they have violated the do everything the same rule.
I guess what I'm saying here is if it's only a turn or two difference to pop the boarders, I'd rather not waste a forest on a monument, and need convincing as to why we should.
