[Spoilers] It's time to play the music

Mack finished eating 2metra - fourteen cities in five turns is pretty good going.

I'm very interested to know how mack got so far ahead to enable his tech lead. I know we had to carry army costs versus ot4e, but still, mack ended up many thousands of beakers ahead; army costs and FIN shouldn't explain that I don't think.

What's Mackoti up to here? Two workers makes me think road, but perhaps he's just chopping a jungle for self-defence? Also possible is landing an expeditionary force in Nidaros and moving it SW of The Count, but that's a little paranoid. Nevertheless I'll move some units to counter. He used a Privateer down south to kill one exploring Caravel, but Max is going to get sight of the stuff our boats miss. Also note the Privateer heading our way. How many Str 3 Caravels does it take to kill a Str 6 Privateer?

We've got the results of our GP-splurge now: an Artist, a Spy, a Scientist and two Engineers. As mentioned the Spy will head south to investigate Mack while the Artist, Scientist and an Engineer can start a golden age. Then we just need another seven (and some luck) from Fozzie, Ernie and Waldorf to launch 4-man and 5-man golden ages. I'd planned to try for another Scientist to bulb Astro too, but I need to figure out if getting up to 2600 GPPs is going to be possible (probably no).

Did I mention that I built the Shwedagon Paya while off-grid? That means we can pretty much get into end-game civics now, so we launched that golden age to switch to OR which saves 40gpt over Pacifism and speeds the Oxford build.

- Government/Economy: Rep/Merc really suit the MoM - I want to try for that ridiculous 5-man Golden age, so these will probably continue for the rest of the game.
- Legal: Environmentalism will probably be good when we eventually get Liberalism, but right now Bureau/Nationhood/Vassalage are fine, depending on the situation.
- Labor: We're stuck with Caste for a while now due to Rep/Merc, but with enough specialist-enabling cheap markets we could switch back to Serfdom (or even Slavery).
- Religion: We can have whatever we want. I'd guess OR for Uni building, then Free Religion to try and catch the leaders up once we turn tech back on.

His fifth city was overseas, he got the great lighthouse, he expanded very slowly after the first eightish cities, he got to SuperMerc way earlier than anyone else and notched Taj Mahal too. On top of that as you say he didn't really need any units until ~t130 and he's got a lot of coast for FIN to use.

If we hadn't spent so much on beating up OT4E I think we'd have been competitive in either the Liberalism or Nationalism race (we'd have had to choose), but then OT4E would have beaten us up...

Its been quiet for a while now, I'm just piling up cash in the golden age to take advantage of Oxford when it gets built. However we're falling behind on tech - everyone else has Gunpowder and Banking on us (well not OT4E, but lets ignore him for now).

I've probably made some mistakes here, let me know:

TBS has 336 gold
- Up: Gunpowder, Banking, Theology, Replaceable Parts, Rifling
- Down: Compass, Optics, Philosophy

OT4E has 49 gold
- Up: Gunpowder, Theology
- Down: Compass, Optics, Alphabet, Printing Press, Meditation

Comodtay has 860 gold
- Up: Gunpowder, Banking,
- Down: Meditation, Priesthood, Alphabet, Aesthetics, Literature

Mackoti has 84 gold
- Up: Astronomy, Gunpowder, Banking, Theology, Liberalism, Chemistry, Mil Sci
- Down: Printing Press

REM has 229 gold
- Up: Astronomy, Gunpowder, Banking, Theology, Replaceable Parts
- Down: HBR

So should we stop the hoarding and get on with getting some defensive tech? Mack has been harassing with a Privateer, killing one of our sentry net and making the rest fall back a little. He's also been building courthouses and possibly jails - meaning he's put enough EPs into us to remove city visibility frown. But there are a few reasons that I think Mack isn't going to attack us.

- 1. He's been building Courthouses instead of units, perhaps he'll wait for the next big attacking tech to do his attacking?
- 2. If he's attacking he'll want all his Frigates on hand to reduce the defences, right?

- 3. Max hasn't found any evidence of boats staging or units being built. While that doesn't mean they aren't heading straight at us from 2metraland I'm taking this as moderately positive news...

In the end we're just getting Gunpowder via Rep beakers. At this point I think winning the sea is the way to win the game but I'm unsure how we beat Vikings controlled by Mackoti with a few thousand beakers on us. I think being efficient with Oxford and trying to use known tech bonus to catch up is one way. Its a gamble (especially as Mack has Military Science and can produce Commandos now - I don't think he's gained enough Great Generals to make more than a couple though, and our important inland cities each have three or four defenders) but if we're still playing (no matter how badly) to win then its a gamble we have to take.

Tension over here - TBS has Rifling, while Commodore has been whipping like a demented jockey for the last five turns. popcorn

I guess its a huge compliment that mack saw fit to disrupt you as opposed to eating OT4E...

He also just ate 2MN, so I understand why he wouldn't attack now. He's got enough land to consolidate and decide if he needs more land for space. His problem is if TBS/Commodore get to a point where one consumes the other.

What's a potential path to victory? 300 Cav to take MackotiStan?

Hmmm, I guess I'd fixed on the Demented Jockey even before gsorel gifted us with that remarkable picture.

Never get involved in a land war in Asia. nono

Actually I think you're right - we're not going to outproduce him at sea are we? So beeline MilTrad and Rifling and charge?

How about "[redacted] has been [redacted] like a demented [redacted]"?

Great picture - the jockey is obviously Bush II, but who's the horse?
