I ended up going with shock. My reasoning is that I'll have to go on the offense someday and shock is the best promotion to do it (sicne Ellimist can't produce more wolves). And the wolves are weak for city attacks (-25% penalty), so even his combat 3, 3/2 strenght wolf can't do much against a freshly created bloodpet (+80% strenght in defense).
The bad thing is that I don't think Ellimist will be attacking soon, so there goes my game.

Well, Ellimist killed my 165% (25% city defense, 25% fortify, 25% hill, 40% shock, 20% combat 1, 20% culture) bloodpet with a str 2 wolf + C1 + S1 beastman (str 3 + 40% shock, +20 combat 1, +20% city attack).
Even my weak bloodpets would have odds against his beastman, so even with the wolf attack, my bloodpet probably had pretty good odds... And i didn't take a 50% chance against his beastman because I didn't want to throw my game away...
Sigh...
Nothing I can do when the odds are against me. His beastman wasn't even injured. The other units didn't even attack... I'll post some odds later with Sareln's awesome calculator !
Nothing I can do besides spam bloodpets and curse at my luck... I've seen Lucian coming to my borders when my (now dead) Malkavian scout stepped at the Mirrow of Heaven. He's combat 2 + shock, so i'm probably doomed. My uber bloodpet would have 67% odds against him, but now it doesn't matter.
At least some barbs attacked at the interturn and I have a new bloodpet ready for promotion. My current defences are 4 bloodpets (one of them with 2.7 str and 2 XP). Ellimist have 2 str. 2 wolves, a str. 3/2 combat 3 wolf, and 2 beastman (one has C1 and S1 and the other C1... I don't remember exactly, was too frustrated with the combat results...)
Screenshots later...

My second best defender would have 73,24% odds of winning, so my uber bloodpet needed to have better odds for him to defend. Well, I thought it would have been better, but still it's very unlucky...
I'll have to get some good combat results to survive. I can't attack his stack now, because it's fortified on a hill/forest tile and I don't have enough troops to win by numbers... And one of his beastman will probably have xp for a new promotion too... Maybe I should have attacked when I had 50% odds to kill his beastmen, but if I lost the combats, it'd be good game... I cannot put myself in the "I already lost mentality", so I couldn't do it... Maybe Ellimist is in this mentality already. But I just can't see why he wouldn't wait for Lucian to attack...
Well, Mist already won this game, so there's nothing much for me to do... I can probably stall Ellimist until Mist has copper connected, so he'll be able to withstand Ellimist attack...
I really don't know what I could have done better. My city really lacks at production (only one 2h tile) and I can't produce bloodpets faster... It's though when the technology breakthrough you need to defend yourself require something like 35 turns of tech and probably a new city. If this was a duel game, I could understand Ellimist, but the way he's playing is just throwing the game to Mist while relaying on slim odds to conquer me...
Well, he's managing the odds, so maybe it's the right thing to do...
Edit: According to Sareln calculator, I had 85% chance of winning both attacks against my uber bloodpet.

Yup
Ellimist beastman now is combat 3 + shock and he killed another of my bloodpets. He went from lvl 2 to lvl 4, so he gained at least 6xp in the previous fight. Just to show how the odds were in my favor.
Lucian is getting closer now.
I think I'll post some pictures later, but I'm kind of disappointed. Being someone who doesn't like to take risks while playing, it's certainly hard to lose a game because of a bad odds attack that went well...

Tell me about it, nothing like getting axe rushed the turn before you hook up your only metal (iron), and desperately chopping/whipping/upgrading warriors to axes.

This is the end.... My only friend....:
Well, the game is over for me...
Ellimist beastman, now renamed Hugh Jackman, has C3 + S2:
There's no way for me to defeat this unit, so...
I lost my worker pair because Ellimist used a neat little trick. Apparently he turned his wolf into a wolfpack (using only one wolf, as far as I can tell...) which gave the unit its movements back. So he captured them from 3 tiles away with a 2 mover...
This is the turn before so that you can see it's the only possible thing that happened:
My meager defenses (there's one more warrior from the EoT):
I don't think i'll update anymore. I'm too frustrated to do it.

A wolfpack requires two wolves to be formed. I'd clarify what exactly happened, but it would be a mild spoiler. You can read it in Elimists thread later.
