a. a decent strength defensive force?
b. enough of a force to go and attack somebody?

Five turns till Gibbon is born. If we can execute plako's plan, Gibbon will be born able to summon Djinns at strength ~15. Even with the 20% puppet malus, that should be enough to kill pretty much anything else in the field. Once we can set up some summoning mages to clean up the leftovers, we should be able to do some damage on offense. Assuming we're not just fighting for our lives against all the other teams, of course.

Does puppet overwrite illusionist? I forget. Not sure if those djinns will actually be able to kill the unit.

Main virtue of Gibbon will be Snowfall. Djinns are just nice addition. I don't know if they'll be isllusions or not, but it really doesn't matter. They'll be useful also as illusions.

Uh, I think you have that backwards. My reading of that changelog line is that they will be illusions, as opposed to not before.

We should discuss this before Gibbon is built. I had planned on promoting him with Mobility, Spell Extension I and II if available. That leaves him 3 promotions short for Snowfall, which means 21 turns of waiting. Are two snowfalling puppets (at -10% damage) worth more than four Djinns?
