[PB66 Mjmd] I HAVE NOT YET BEGUN TO FIGHT!!!

(September 21st, 2022, 21:52)Mjmd Wrote: Does anyone know why I can build a lighthouse on the southeast body of water, but not a galley? I was planning on ferrying a worker over to the fur. I thought if you can build a lighthouse you can build ships (and I can build work boats).

Workboats can be built on all (and only) bodies of water that contain a water resource (fish, clams, crabs, whales, oil) regardless of size. A city on a one-tile lake can build a workboat in the ancient era if there's secretly an oil under the tile, but a city on a resourceless 900-tile sea can't build a workboat to explore.

Coastal buildings (lighthouse, harbor, GLH, etc.) can be built on any body of salt water, meaning any body of water with 10 tiles or more.

Ships (i.e. boats apart from work boats) can be built only on bodies of water containing 20 tiles or more.

Shoot I guess I have to walk a worker ALL the way around..... It may be faster to come from the other side actually.  Thanks for the info.

BTW I just realized my borders will pop next turn so there was no reason to even cover the city with the impi. smoke

I don't normally rename songs until they are out of revolt, but I found this today and it tickled my fancy as a parent.

This power graph pleases me. I realize I haven't fully explained why I'm going to war. Basically its geography plus Jack being slow expanding. While the city count was originally 9 to 7, the actual war count is something like 6 to 4, BUT I knew I could take two cities pretty fast thereby making it 6 to 2. Three of his cities weren't even planted when I started planning this war, so at most they can maybe whip once plus chops, but still am hoping to carry the speed advantage. If Jack had expanded faster and had put more than 1 axe at my border for turns on end I would not have done this.

 So actual war report.
-As stated in PB63 never be afraid to fix a mistake. Instead of roading the forested tundra I roaded the tundra under the advancing axes so they can advance quickly next turn. Assuming I think axes are indeed needed at capital (I expect they will be and regret not switching unpromoted axe to guarding Guns and Drums for a turn so I could have another promo axe).
-Jack had enough gold to upgrade at least 2 warriors to spears. One  of them I could reach. I upgraded impi to combat I and won a 34% handily!!!
-Jack whipped 4 pop this turn, but his copper city! can only have 1 unit.

Suffered my first loss. Jack had 2 axes on forested hill 2N of Ziggurat; one of which had forest defense. Thanks to my already planned worker movements I was able to kill both losing 1 chariot. He also had a random axe NW of Horizon I got to snipe via same new roads. Have no clue why it was there. Because it wasn't in Horizon that city will likely be razed next turn. In the east his axe that had been all the way over by Spain was on the hill and I got to snipe that one as well. I was an idiot and moved 2 spaces thereby missing the information of what is in his SE city. I know of 1 axe, but if he has a spear there, its going to be a while...... I'm pretty sure I'm waiting on the 4th axe to attack his capital. Will also allow some new units to arrive. No one I know of is trading him copper, but I don't know everyone yet.

Current Losses:
Jack - 5 axes & 1 spear
Mjmd - 1 chariot

I can see 4/5 cities. Did Jack manage to settle an island is a huge question I have. Even if he did, its probably one of his newer cities.

Mig asked for open borders. Even though he is looking really good I probably would take IF I also would get trade, which atm I don't. The trade from Civac alone probably means I will leave them alone for forever unless I feel its necessary. My finances look slightly worse than they are as I moved off gems for clam last turn, but still Civac trade is worth 8gpt!!! If you are wondering about the settler in capital its whole purpose is hopefully to settle an island somewhere..... mainly as a safety in case they cancel / have for my additional cities. Will be at least 7-8 turns or so though.

Speaking of islands, land above me appears to be uninhabited?? Probably just someones "safe" backlines. Its possible its a large contested island. Work boat is continuing exploring.

-Jack didn't pillage the road with his warrior and instead went back to defend Marble City. Took and kept as it has a gold. Looks to be a natural border city. Mig looks to be NW so assume Gav is SW?
-Horizon spear killed my chariot stupidly on the grassland hill and went back to defend the city. City raider impi cleaned it up. Razed as a dry sheep wasn't worth keeping.
-Down at playground there was an axe and warrior. I correctly moved first chariot to pig and it withdrew vs warrior. My 2nd chariot SHOWED it was moving over the pig and then decided to randomly move to the tundra, but did kill the defending axe. I wouldn't be surprised if Jack takes the prob 50/50 after healing to take down the most injured chariot. I'm pretty sure? I keep this one. I'm not sure if it or NW Passage will be Moai site, but whichever isn't can work some specialists.

We will see if this is hubris but I stopped producing chariots to send to the front, so basically what you see is what I have. I also did this weird thing called turning on tech.

Also, did no one tell Krill that one tile islands are out of fashion? I'm pretty sure there is a 1 tile cow island down there..............

I'm sick atm, but not much happened this turn. Took Playground and a wounded barb spear randomly showed up next to Marble City. I could choose to reinforce with another chariot awaiting impi next turn. OR put that chariot weak as it is to capital attack stack / not lose a chariot.

Jack is sadly / luckily checked out. He could have dry whipped his capital for another archer this turn. But luckily he didn't. I forgot to update sign, its now 2 axes, 1 spear, and 1 pro archer.

Looks like his other city is on mainland south of his worker. BTW I discovered a 1 tile hill island......... Come on map reviewers. I don't know if they were randomly generated or Krill thought they were cute, but either way 1 tile islands just aren't a thing that should exist anymore.

If you don't know what the Barbary pirates have to do with the American navy shame on you! ( not really, it may have been a small 2 sentence paragraph in my AP US  history class only). Basically the only reason the early navy was funded were the Barbary pirates. The US was also the first to get serious about taking them down (partially because the euro powers liked using them against their rivals).

I've had some good luck so far this campaign. Couple of flawless or near flawless losses and a couple low odds wins. YAAAAAA you know where this is going. Came back to bite me. I built this battle last night and the obvious thing to do was knock the archer down with an axe and have my two shock chariots knock his spear down. Then the remaining 2-3 chariots got shots at the axes. How did this plan work out?

Well the archer only got knocked down to 2/3. I had this happen a few times in the sim no big deal. First shock chariot flawless loss........  I'm honestly not sure if I should have changed to sacrificing the impi or not here, but I think it was better to save the impis / axes. So yaaaa I sacrificed all my chariots including that weakened sentry chariot I mentioned last turn I moved in just in case. But I preserved the more expensive long lasting units.

So ya took the capital. Which looks suspiciously WAY WAY better than mine  banghead  ........ I mean I guess he has some grassland hill river tiles instead of 2 flat grassland river tiles???? But ya better tech requirements early and more food BEFORE lighthouse.

I obviously also retook the gold city from the barbs. It didn't show me losing that score last turn so curious how many people will figure it out or think I just settled another city lol.

I'm tempted to move his last city to the silver, but will see when I capture.

This a modern song. As is somewhat common with this band its on a past event that should be remembered. If you don't know about the Halifax explosion I highly recommend looking it up. Anyways, thought it would be fitting for Jacks old capital. Its one of my absolute favorites and always tugs on my heartstrings a bit.

Depending on how you count it , the war is ended in 7-8 turns. Jack didn't go quietly starting with a flawless win over my chariot at 22% and then killed 2 more impi before I finally finished him off.

I'm kicking myself for not razing High Barbary. I understand why Jack put it there, but man that lake city would have been sweet. To be fair to past Mjmd I didn't know full geography and didn't know if another city could grab copper, but also to call past Mjmd an idiot I did know about the lake..........

Cornflakes since you saw my build up in depth, could you do me favor of giving it a score out of 10 for preparation? I think it was pretty descent and it seemed to catch Jack by surprise. Did I forget about turns it takes to road tundra, yaaaaaaa.

Jack if you are reading I'm curious if me not showing the chariots the first turn caused you to overbuild axes or not?

I'll have thoughts on economy and stuff as cities come out of resistance.

Turn rolled shortly after last report, but listen I'm no longer sick, so lets talk economy? Here is a LONG song.

This is former Playground and as stated likely to be my future moai city even if its going to be a pain to build there. IE like Bellrach PB61lots of 2 whip overflow, but it has the food for it.

1st off: BLOODY BARBS. Sigh. Impi should heal and on hill with combat I probably still have some small odds.

Speaking of the gold city.... I picked up 2 metals this war and the extra 1 happy alone should get me to be near or at even. Obviously working it will be great. Silver will be a second as I didn't want to raze as I would rather be whipping workers and I would rather have clams than hill sheep.

In addition I finally walked worker around and will start improving beaver soon which will be another happy and good tile to work.

So extra happy will obviously be good for some of my older cities. There is a reason 2 of my precious workers are improving General Taylor. With Jacks capital spice I think I will be cottaging the one there. Also cottaging my capital and Santiana / Away Rio river delta. However obviously its still going to take a second to get Jacks cities up to useful pops let alone needing that much happy.

So obviously I stop expanding right? WRONG. Even though I got my trade routes filled by Vanrober and obviously Spain I still want the back up island. Also, do you see that insane 3 food site? I mean its all 4f tiles, but still its a lot lol. I realize writing this that I don't have tile icons on so just trust me they are there. I'm also playing around with an idea of planting on the plains sheep to try to steal the fish across the way. The barbs heading from that way make me think Gav hasn't gotten over this far yet. I also kind of want to grab a city over by the lakes near T/C Spain...... Have I mentioned there is a landmass above me crawling in barb axes I'm curious about.....

One reason to settle some cities soon is to get them up in time for my GA. Ya Santiana is up once again going to save my game. Eventually other cities will be able to take specialist duty, but for first one there is only one option. But ya time to GA to currency. Usually I don't need to do, but um ya I think we are there lol. Might research alphabet first, will have extra build queues to build research. But ya that means its till going to be like 20 turns until I turn on tech again most likely.

I obviously have some savings in Ikandas kicking in eventually, but they aren't really worth whipping in over working a cottage, so will just be doing as I go.

If you live around Superior you know of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Its one of the few recent ish major tragedies on the great lakes.

Sigh barb moved onto the gold. I was willing to lose both impis, but the first in lost flawlessly at 25%............. So i sent other to protect city and have to spend precious worker turns fixing. This will also delay a couple of whips for you know not completely being broke reasons due to renewed unhappy issues plus working gold being delayed.

Anyways speaking of a ship carrying ore that could be lost in a storm, my new gold city.

Yep its time to talk geo politics.

This city borders Mig and I think at least Gav or maybe SD. However there is evidently enough room both ways for barb spears to spawn..... so I dont' expect trouble in the short term. Oh wait I'm at war with Gav you say? Ya so I opened borders SPECICIALLY because his warrior was trapped and the only thing it could do was to pillage improvements. He of course accepted open borders and then tried to sneak pillage the hamlet next to Jacks capital. So I killed it. Small pointless injuries like this I do not take likely.

In the NE Magic has been at war with at least two people and only has 2 cities west of his capital. Meaning a difficult path for anything but 2 movers to even assemble. Magic is last on scoreboard and with traits I expect him to exit. However, I see no reason to hurry that along atm. I can just wait until someone else does. I'm honestly hoping he can hold out for a while though. He sent me fish for horse. I'm not sure how to take that. I mean he orphaned his own horse, so maybe he actually needs, but ya no. I sent back fish for fish and open borders.

Threat of only two movers is same in SE. I'm not exactly sure who T/C are at war with but they have been whipping and power building while trusting a lonely axe on my border. I sent them pig for pig (first signal they used as I haven't had seafood) right after my war. Even besides not backstabbing their friendship I probably couldn't make it beyond one city and them losing copper could mean they then get eaten from other direction while trying to retake from me. No sense unless it looks like they are stomping someone.

In other words every direction including the sea people could potential injure me, but full scale invasions seem low odds and honestly even injuring incursion chances are low. After all if someone does solo I can easily out produce them even if it hurts.........
