[SPOILER] Catherine of Maya - Greens - Kyan

Lurkers: Please join me in welcoming Maniac to the Mayan Team. Maniac is totally unspoiled for this game (or was, until i corrupted him) and considers himself a total green based on having only played 1 game of civ in like forever (pb3). I'm going to Malta for a week in 11 days (i think? sigh, time flies lol) and Maniac is going to play the turns.

However, rather than just be my slave whilst im on holidays, i'd much rather bring him in as an equal partner. We've already been scheming a bit and definitely have some fun ahead that the lurkers will DEFINITELY approve of but we'll be keeping that under our hat for now. My original plan is still in effect of rapid early expansion. Once we have our main core settled, we may need more room, if you get my drift...

Been looking at the dotmaps again. Maybe move Brown Dot 1W and White Dot 1N.

Any lurker suggestions of how best to claim all the available resources?

Certainly not obvious is it?

For what it's worth, I think it's a good idea to have at least one port, and the fish resource makes it worthwhile, but agree it does screw with the placement.

Regarding the dotmaps, Manic's is neater, but I'm not keen on the blue dot and missing those 4 riverside tiles NE of the capital is pretty criminal.

So suggest Manics, with the following changes:
  • Keep your white dot
  • Move his yellow 1W (loses bananas, picks up gl rivers), will make a nice cottage commerce city including riverside furs.
  • Forget his blue dot for the time being, move it down to 1SE of your brown (spices +bananas ie calendar city).
  • Argue/reassess his orange vs your fish city later?
I haven't been following this PBEM in extreme detail, but clearly this is a flatmap and I believe low difficulty?
If so, it's better to overlap than leave gl river tiles to go to waste. It only takes 1 or 2 river cottages to make up the maintenance costs for each extra city.

[strike]And lastly, it seems like you're focussing on settling North, towards a person you have a border agreement with?
While I agree that the spices and bananas make it harder to go East, there is a nice reward at the end of the line in the form of a gold/corn/fp city.
So is going North the correct course of action?[/strike]
Ah sorry, I reread and realised you intend to settle into Cull and then probably attack him.

Only suggestions. smile

In text in the email I suggested moving yellow 1W just as you suggest. I should have taken the tile to crayon that on the map itself, or just redraw the maybe, but I was in a hurry/being lazy.

Your suggestion for a blue move I'm not keen on, because we do need a port city around there, BUT: We don't know enough about the terrain along the lake there to really decide yet imo.

As for Kyan's map... the amount of overlap between purple and pink is a killer to me. Now, I know Ref and I overlapped a lot in PB3 (more than I wanted, but he was right to fight for the way we eventually settled) but Purple had hardly any tiles in that alignment frown

If I thetime before I leave for Origins, I'll try to draw a fish grabbing map, but it didn't look very promising that any kind of decent one could be drawn.

I prefer Kyan's dot map. Cyan dot (claiming grass cow in first ring) just seems stronger as a next city. Pink dot will culturally dominate that bottleneck in no time, allowing you to backfill Fish site and Purple dot later on.

And I think Kyan's map is neater, allthough that could be the adverse effect Maniac's handdrawn dotmap has on my aesthetic tastes... wink

I'm back from vacation. I'll try to get caught up tomorrow.

Quick summary:

I played one turn since you left on holiday. It was uneventful lol

I've come down ill today. Probably a combination of no sleep for a week + the sick person who just had to sit next to me and sneeze in my general direction for 4 hours at one event Saturday, and the stress from PB3. Could you update me on everything I need to know again via email. I've never done a PBEM before, and have already forgotten pretty much everything you told me 10 days or so ago. lol

Hopefully you don't regret having asked me. If you're lucky, I've already used up my smoke quota for the month in PB3.

Mate, you total numpty. Real life comes first. Full stop. If you feel like shite, let me know and i'll arrange for someone else to play the turns whilst im away. I know it's because you care, but you can care too much.

Ok, what email address is best for you to use mate? I can set the PBEMTracker to email you the saves directly. Once you have the save, you choose multiplayer -> play by email -> load game -> filepath wherever you downloaded the game to.

Once you play, just hit end turn and the game will automatically save it for you.

Then go here:

http://pbemtracker.com/game.php?gameID=55

and upload the turn. I'll PM you the details to log in there. It's that easy.

Haha we have quota's? Who gave me such a damned huge one?

Course i don't regret. What's to regret? You're worrying far too much. Maya is in a great position in this game and we're on course for the main objective: win the damned thing.

Diplo Update:

China:

China is played by Strike and are our Eastern neighbour, there is a good distance between us. Strike is a really nice guy and we're looking at forming a strong bond upon which we're gonna build the foundations of the world. We have an auto-renewing NAP with a 10turn cancellation.

Strike recently discovered that Egypt/Jowy is VERY close to him:

http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/4394/ci...t0020d.jpg

That's a HELL of a lot smaller gap between us and him and us and Cull. Therefore we have concluded he has pulled a 'pink dot' maneuver. I've managed to convince strike to go full military now and wipe him out. Or at least the front city. He is going to deliberately avoid contact to avoid Jowy getting hold off his graphs, as per my suggestion.

I think this is the best move for him at this stage as that's one hell of a stunt Jowy has pulled. Plus with him getting lots of room to his east, we can have more to ours. There is an imba gold site almost exactly between our two civs. Strike hasn't said it yet but he will be conceding this site to us shhh I'm convinced of it.

To help him out, we're going to send out first chariot and then a second one a 'short time later' out east towards him.

This: a) shows great faith, b) provides some much necessary scouting en-route, c) meets Jowy.

Yes, this leaves us with literally zero military but we don't need it currently. This is a no barbarians game.

Ottomans:

Run by cull. We have a NON-recurring NAP til turn 60. Sometime after this, we will wipe him out. Not a lot to say here.

Other stuff:

Only wonder gone so far = stonehenge to Strike.
Strike has also met seifer (babylon) but i cant remember where he met him.
We're the only one with a religion. Hinduism.

tech:

We want monarchy, Maths, Metal Casting and Monotheism as priorities.
We are in the lead for race to oracle (since we claimed the first religion and have beelined from there with high GNP). No idea how much we can stall so, as agreed with you, i think we should grab MC and get forges up ASAP.

Tech towards Monarchy and Monotheism then double revolt into HR/OR.

We are already in slavery and hinduism.

Masonry would obviously have to be done to grab Mono but that's fine as we have stone in our cultural border and when we grab Maths, i would like to whip out a couple more settlers whilst building Hanging Gardens. Popping down at least a couple more cities then landing the gardens will accelerate this snowball like mad.
