Also, I could just give BGN the mainland and instead try to push for the island...

Tchaikovsky!
I know he has more well known stuff, but I've always liked Marche Slave.

I debated moving the city southwest to be able to share the sugar with Balakirev, but a couple of reasons why I kept it on the hill:
- Resources are first ring, no need to waste time on border pops, and a border pop would have taken 2 turns with the poor natural hammers in the area.
- I liked the idea of a protected port city. The hill gives defenses and only having one tile of entrance allows for better defense.
- The minus of losing the rice doesn't seem that awful because based off what I've seen from other people, the island is fairly food-barren and the city I'm going to put to capture the rice and gems is going to need all the food it can get to grow (meaning the deer too).

Galleon finishes this turn out of Mussorgsky, and I'll have a few more settlers in the next half dozen turns. With that in mind, I also started a round of workers. Tchaikovsky is going to whip out a worker since it won't have many improved tiles for a while. I really need to chop out all those forests into settlers too, so more workers!

Noble & Gaspar look like they're trying to push out to establish borders on 3 sides at once.

Unfortunately everybody is weak, so it's hard to punish people for overextending -- which just tells me I need to be extending more myself. However, we do have a galleon just out of Mussorgsky and could easily get an amphibious strike against that city. Plus, Cossacks are being built. Anyway, something to mull over but doesn't seem like the right time to attack.

30 turns in, so let's do a city count:

REM - 9
pindicator & mackoti's ghost - 6
Gaspar & Noble - 6
Dreylin - 5
Scooter & Sullla - 5
Donovan Zoi - 3
BGN - 3

Demos are looking better and better

Is it really overextending if everyone is weak?

Exactly why I need to be expanding more!

Turn 286

So scooter is roading as if he wants to put a city between us, and I decided it was time to get my border city down:

Kabalevsky - not a composer I'm familiar with aside from some vague recognition that I probably had some in my John Thompson piano books as a kid. But it's got a nice joyous upbeat sound to it:

I still expect Scooter to place the city where he'll grab the horse and corn first ring, and so I probably won't have the corn for myself -- but at least I'll have the defensive position on the hill. And I have a couple cossacks in the area if he decides to get aggressive.

EDIT: I should also note that scooter always had the opportunity to grab the sheep first ring and take control of it from Balakirev. Now he has to choose whether he wants to do that with the sheep OR the corn; he can't do both (without a great artist...)

I feel like i'm kind of lost and floating through the turns...

Stravinsky!

Yes, we built another city. I'm about to the spot where I'm going to slow down on them, though.

This was the best spot we had left to claim; it will grab 5 new resource tiles. There are 2 other "must-get" locations: north of here, at the wine & banana, and then on our island with the gems. But I think we're going to slow down a little bit and grow to get those online.

I was originally going to set off the golden age after getting Stravinsky's borders popped. But now I'm not sure -- I could have an 84% chance at a second Great Engineer in 10 turns, which would rush me any wonder I could want -- like Statue of Liberty, if it happens to be hanging around in 10 turns. But maybe the GA is better all-around.

Oh, Steam POwer also finished at the end of the last turn, which helps in 2 ways:

1) Worker actions are now cheaper, so I don't need to drastically build so many workers. (I still need more workers, though.)

2) It reminded me that I should have been accounting for riverside city locations so I could build Levees. Good thing I didn't play as the Dutch!

I'm sure you lurkers are aware of the killer strike that leveled Gaspar and Noble. I took advantage of it to burn the border city. Should I have tried to keep it? Maybe? I guess my indifference from 31 is carrying over to here, especially without mack around.
