Catwalk spent the pregame saying he'd focus on the wonder of settlers and workers. Now he's trying to talk up an early rush to the colossus at the expense of useful early techs. Quick turnaround on the change there.

I wasn't going to even pay attention to this game but... Catwalk is in this? Okay I'll watch.

Do we set up a betting pool for when he suddenly disappears from the game and everyone is forced to look for a replacement?

I don't know what turn it will be on, but it will be whenever his wife has had it with the amount of time he's spending on the game. It seems like he is an all or nothing type of player, either spending unreasonable amounts of time planning and iterating schemes or... disappearing into the ether. I think the disappearance is usually immediately preceded by his leash being yanked severely enough to cause choking. MEOOOWW!!!!! whip alright

But if we're placing bets I'll randomly choose turn 142.

Turn 104

Like Scooter, once I found Catwalk was in this, I decided to watch... cuz I don't want to be unspoiled when the cat walks!

Good plan, because it sounds like he's going for the exact same retarded plan he had in PBEM 42. I'm amused by his dedlurkers' polite "uh...might not be the best..." reactions.

Flugauto will win, hearing it here now.

Following up on this here, I'm curious to find out what changed between versions 1.08 and 1.09 of Novice's map tool. Here's the map balance report for the PB17 map for the two versions. (I finished and sent off the map to Sunrise before Novice released 1.09).

Version 1.08 Wrote:Total map unfairness (standard deviation in weighted land quality): 2

Version 1.09 Wrote:Total map unfairness (standard deviation in weighted land quality): 1391

Whuuuut? I opened both versions of the tool and stacked the maps on top of each other after running the balance checker against the maps. I didn't see any tiles that had flipped ownership when I ALT+TAB'ed, so it has to be something in the valuation of the tiles that has changed significantly. In version 1.08 the total land quality ranged from 1640.5 - 1642 among all 12 civs. In version 1.09 the range reported is much, much wider with no changes to the map (4580.1 - 5960.1).

I guess my point is I'd be curious to know what changed in the tile valuation process and what prompted the changes. The map is no more or less playable for the guys in this game just because of what a tool reports as an unfairness rating, I think the starts are all playable for sure, but since I was basically playing with the map to get the "best" possible rating I'd be curious to know what happened here. I think if I'd have had version 1.09 available when I was still working on the map I wouldn't have sent it out for release at this point, even though it makes zero difference in terms of being fit for use. Actually it's kind of a good thing, I spent enough time on it as it was. crazyeye

I didn't work on the balance checking in v1.09, only map editing. I may well have introduced bugs though as I did a fair bit of refactoring, and little regression testing.
I have to run.
