Map bait thread!
Also, looking at the player base, I'm actually struck by the thought that the newbies are better bets than the "vets" mostly. It's the Civ4 MP equivalent of a slow mule race here.

I see what you mean: there are a lot of vets here who play very casually and don't seem to analyze their play much or try to improve by carefully studying other games. On the other hand there is quite the history of self-conscious lurkers emerging here after a few years when they finally feel ready to play in a game, and quickly showing some strong results. (Myself most definitely excluded. )

I also agree, but I'd say you're included on that list.

Map update, making solid progress, it's almost usable now. It was mostly usable earlier today (map unfairness was 41, now it's at 229) until Commodore reviewed it and thought it needed more food. So more food has been added but land quality is a bit uneven now. I have to work tomorrow so it will be tomorrow night before I can work on this again. Most likely it won't be until the weekend that I can grind through the rest of the process smoothing things out.
Commodore/Brick, I'm emailing the current iteration to you guys so you can chastise obvious failings. But I'll even things up again when I get time to over the next few days. Or, Brick, if you have lots of availability before I can get back to it let me know.

OK, I think the map is finished. I've sent it off to Commodore and Brick for review.
I'm sure we'll have the usual whining about the map. Just know that for whoever does, I hates you forever. Also, enjoy.

Should players be told its a toroid? ORG is obviously better than on a cylindrical map. Also, do they need info on map size? Map was rolled on large but I don't know what size it really is now. I guess for good maintenance settings large should be OK. Any other items to post for the players before giving them their screenshots? I'm undecided as to whether to tell them there is (or isn't!) stone and marble.

I'd basically always tell the players map size/wrap, it makes a huge difference.

Knowing about a lack of stone and marble makes IND slightly more attractive. No opinion otherwise...

And if there IS stone/marble but they'll need to go looking for it? (ie, if there isn't a total lack, instead if they require slightly more to obtain, and after that, to hold on to if someone has a mind that THEY want them?)
I guess I'll answer the question in the setup thread if one of the players asks.
Thanks guys. I'll get screens posted when I'm able to. Off work today and navigating today's schedule around a toddler.
