Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

[SPOILER] Close to Win

All quiet on the dotmap front:

I'm cautiously doing some dotmapping. Interestingly the desert and mountain in my south west divides my dotmap in a western part and the southern part. For now I only planned the western part as I'm missing some crucial information in the south-east. I initially had a different dotmap, which I will add for completeness sake, but in spoiles.

Red dot will be planted first, ideally somewhat around T50, when my cap expands its border again. The main purpose of Red is to help the capitol grow cottages in the early phase. After that and as soon as Purple is planted, Red will diminish into a smaller hammer city.

Purple is one hell of a commerce city with 9 floodplain tiles. It even might be an option to move the palace there later. I planted it on the desert hill for the fresh water health bonus and the defensive position. I know I miss out on the sheep to the south, but this city can live without it and some city to the south in the tundra can get good use out of them.

Green will make good use of the pig and serve as a main hammer contributor.

Alternative dotmap:

Red dot is also the first city planted here, but now is a heavy commerce and hammer contributor, also on defensive and fresh water terrain and might be a palace city. But red is also the reason why I did not like this plan: Red denies a lot of other city spots.

Purple is planted here to have some overlap with Red, but also enough tiles of its own.

Green is very disappointing because it's on flatland. More exploration would have changed that city spot.

T19 - 22:

Exploration of the northern jungle continued. There's coast NW of my scout and a panther 2NE of the scout, but with the defensive terrain and the promotion, I should be ok. The mountain range to the south of the scout looks interesting. Together with it and the jungle I don't have to fear any invasions from the direct north for the forseable future. By the way, I would like to know if that mountain range was natural or was placed by you, GKC. Just tell me when you think the time is right to tell me, no hurry.

Back at home ATs scout left; my first warrior finished and started exploring the south-east and I've started the settler to be finished in T29. So far everything looks great. Oh and I was the first to pop 3 with Mr. Cairo, AT and Superdeath one turn later.

Also in T20 we got our first terrain score points. Looks like AT, Jowy, Mr. Cairo and Superdeath have all land in their inner ring, while Mjmd, Team Giraflorens/vanrobber and pindicator started with some water.

I also have to say the turn pace is amazing. The turn started less then one hour ago and 5 of 8 players already played again. And we just started last saturday and are already at T22. I wonder how long this break-neck pace keeps on.

Would red be your third city? T50 seems very late for that - what are you building before the settler?

My current plan sees my next settler finished at T38. I did not make any decision where this settler will settle, both because I want to know a little more about my south-east and I want to know where copper is before deciding. BW is finished in T28, so expect decisions then.

T23:

The so far uneventful exploration of the south east started. My initial plan was to go 1NE with the warrior next, but unfortunately there is a lion there. It looks like there is water directly north of the lion. Now if the lion moves 1NW or 1S it could attack me with 27% odds if I move 1NE. The question is do I want to take those odds. Now the lion could still decide to not attack or move further east and not bothering me.
Mh have to think about if I want to take that risk.

In other animal related news. That panther near my scout attacked dropping the scout to 0.6/1. He's now healing.

The lion vanished in T24 and I took the risk going NE, still no sight of the lion. Unfortunately no new resources were discovered.

I expect everybody is working on their first settler, so I took a screenshot of the demographics. Hey, I'm first in GNP and somebody is high in soldier value, which is a little bit worrying.

Exploration of the north-west continued and.. oh, look who's here. That's Team Mjmds border. And they also are the first to settle their second city in T27. I guess they had a seafood start, build Fast Workers and chopped out their settler with a little help from IMP.

Next turn will reveal copper.

And Bronze Working is in, revealing two sources of copper. I still have to look into it, but a city 1N of the northern copper looks good having a corn in the first ring. But I'm not sure it's the best third city because of the higher distance maintenance cost.
In the south I need to explore a bit more. I want to know if there are any food resources 1S or 1SE of the copper.
