Well first, the instant horse hookup was part of it sure, but he also chose to tech AH before BW. His Copper is also not hard to hook.

The other issue is that both an Impi rush and a Chariot rush are stopped by a Copper unit - axes or spears. However, an Impi rush means you'll see Copper for both players sooner, so you'll know where to go to prevent a Copper hook. Mjmd committed to this before even knowing where SD's copper is located.

The other factor is yeah the defensive bonuses matter a lot. An axe vs plains forest hill Impi is more or less a coin flip. When you're defending against a choke, you can't take that kind of risk because if it comes up tails, your game is over. A spear vs Chariot though is a 99% win, so you can kill it easily. Basically, they're probably both about as likely to get a clean kill, but the Impi variant can stick around a lot longer. Stick to defensive terrain, and the defending player can't really take risks against you.

I think Mjmd wasn't planning on a rush of any kind and simply teched double-prereq-bonus AH for his two cows as part of his sandboxed opening, and then pivoted upon scouting SD nearby and revealing instantly hooked horses. IMO it's a reasonable call.

Yeah this is fair. I think my general complaint about Chariot rushes is they are so fragile. Chariot vs Warrior in a hill capital with 40% culture is barely better than a coin flip, for example.

Fortunately, it looks like he's going to be able to do some damage here seeing SD's POV. SD is going to have to pick his poison here. He's 5T from Archery, and Mjmd is 2T from a tile that forks both cities. In that situation, Thessalonica is probably dead while the capital lives, and it's hard to see him successfully planting Copper.

Oh Superdeath is cooked. Putting the warrior on flat ground and losing the fight flawlessly after also sinking hammers into the settler makes this pretty much a wrap.

That is just brutal

Going by screenshots, I can't understand why that warrior is there in the first place. It was on the hill SE of the capital, moved N to flatland while the chariot was in view, then moved SE to be in range of the chariot on flatland? I can understand trying to defend the copper city, but why did you move N in the first place?

A whole bunch of players NOT settling for Copper first and NOT teching Archery on a game with Barbarians ON, and then complaining about the map is really something. Everyone is just way too used to the farmer's gambit being the standard play.

One thing I completely forgot; they're playing *with* barbarian cities as well, so the astroland will most likely be pre-settled.

ALRIGHT. So, instant hook copper for both of us, and instant hook horses for him. AND my horses are the SAME DISTANCE from me as HIS horses. Why.

Love yal, but thats just shit. lol
"Superdeath seems to have acquired a rep for aggression somehow. [Image: noidea.gif] In this game that's going to help us because he's going to go to the negotiating table with twitchy eyes and slightly too wide a grin and terrify the neighbors into favorable border agreements, one-sided tech deals and staggered NAPs."

You are aware that you could have done the same thing he did, settling on the horses to instant-connect them? Yes, there was a larger walk distance to your horses, but they were in the safest spot possible that wouldn't overcrowd.

Yours were by far the roomiest lands, but the one challenge you had was the natural bay around your capital.

Also, why was your warrior on the cows to be killed early?
