should we ask the other players for tier lists/evaluations like the one mjmd did? it might be useful information for making our own evaluations, by which i mean, i want to read tier lists

Dreylin is probably better than SD, but SD deserves the TBS-victim continent and Dreylin deserves to be the fox in the chicken coop.

i think drey is really tough to place given our limited sample of recent games..... PB75 may not be that representative as drey had probably the worst neighbor luck of anyone and SD had some of the best. maybe it would be nice to hear from someone playing in 78 to see who's doing better there (i really have no idea and am a dedlurker in that game so i can't read their threads). i would give the slight edge to SD but i regularly exhibit ludicrous amounts of pro-SD bias in most contexts so idk how seriously that should be taken.....

really what we should do is force them to play a live duel game one of these nights for the last spot on Isle TBS. and force one of them to stream it for us

Yeah this really SD vs Dreylin for the 4th contender slot. I would bet on Dreylin as the 4th best player here personally. But I do think it's close.

Well, I am a player in PB78 and from the limited info I have Dreylin crashed his economy for no apparent reason AND underexpanded. In that game he is pretty heavily outperformed by SD so far. From what I read in his threads (not much, mostly in his aborted PB74 attempt), I believe his thought process is better than whatever passes for this for SD but he is really rusty when it comes to basics and SD, on the other hand, does have lots of experience with the early game (much less with the late game though and it shows). For this particular game, I think it is important that whoever we put on the same continent as mjmd and TBS wouldn't just get run over even before the knights era. I think chances for that with SD and Nauf are reasonably low, with Dreylin - I am not so sure.

yeah, i think this is a really good point. it seems to me that the outcome this setup encourages (and the one i'm personally rooting for) is for someone on the greenish continent to have a breakout game in which they consolidate their island and then challenge the winner of contender isle to a lategame naval showdown. this probably does not happen if someone gets knighted at a meta-compliantly early timing on the vet continent, instead we might get the super depressing outcome of a green scratching and clawing their way to the top of the heap over a 50-turn medieval era, then get contacted by 40-city TBS when they backfill optics on their way to tanks

not that we as uninvested lurkers should necessarily be rooting for a particular outcome..... but as an uninvested lurker, there is no mechanism by which i can be held accountable for doing so, sooo
