[SPOILERS] Dantski's Pitboss Thread

1S of my mark does look decent, it lets me improve the copper immediately to help get the monument out faster.

athlete's score jumped by 15 this turn but the log doesn't mention Stonehenge (or any wonder) being built, am I missing something here? A double city growth wouldn't count for that much, I don't recall if they have a 2nd city yet but its borders could've expanded too, I guess if you add a few of these together, it could also explain he jump.

Tech and city growth?

The little risk of moving the city 1S is that it give India a chance to steal 'your' gold by settling 2N of it and do a culture attack

They're the team with a Creative leader, so the points probably come from a border pop in T25. The points for the land are added to the score 20 turns later. wink

Thanks for that sm!

Nothing much to say about the game, putting 1 turn into a skirm before Timbuktu grows and then it'll swap to settler to grab the spot 2S of the gold. Skirmisher will guard the settlers passage.

Djenne is building a warrior until pottery comes in then it'll go onto a granary which will probably be chopped then maybe whipped. Timbuktu's culture expansion in 5 turns will let Djenne work a hill to go with the fish.

A few emails of little interest have been exchanged between Spulla and I, they seem reluctant to talk after initiating the discussion, I've asked them for a proposal and also said I don't plan on settling further north than Djenne. Hopefully they'll reply relatively soon.

Spulla Wrote:Dear Romalinese Friends,

What we'd like to propose, if you'll recall our email message of a few days ago, is some sort of agreement not to settle aggressively on one another's borders for a little while. Your city of Djenne was fairly aggressive from our perspective, and although we understand that you need to expand and claim land for yourself, we'd have to view the situation negatively if your next two or three cities were also beelined in our direction. Since we'd like to work together with you on a long-term basis, it's in the best interests of both of our teams to avoid that situation.

Of course, we don't expect you to give us concessions for nothing! If you will pledge not to push your next couple of settlers north to our border, then we'll promise in return not to push our own next couple of settlers south towards you. That's a solid deal that benefits us both. It frees you to push in the direction of Nakor, and it frees us to do the same towards Jowy and Yaz.

We're willing to listen to any counter-offers or proposals you might have, so let us know what's on your mind. I also should tell you that Jowy has expressed a desire to meet with you, and he has a scout moving south towards you at the moment. It will probably take some time still for him to arrive though.

Best wishes,
Sullla
The Killer Angels

As previously stated, I definately want my next city around the gold. So I replied thusly.

Quote:Dear Angels

I would like to settle once more in your general direction (it shouldn't encroach so don't worry) since it will grab possibly our only metal resource. After that I have no problem settling the less desirable land that is SE of my position.

The Romalise would like to work together with your people also and our skirmisher near your lands is not there with hostile intentions.

I'd like to meet Jowy too so hopefully we'll see him stumble our way soon. As yet, Nakor's team have made no mention of wishing to meet you, but I don't expect them to tell me everything!

-Dantski

I'd definately like to meet Jowy if he has any aggressive intentions towards Spulla, anything that slows my neighbours is good for me! Seems he's going to do the legwork to meet up so my scouting warrior (still healing) will be heading east of Nakor.

Timbuktu grew thss turn and has switched to settler (8 turn base build but speeded by whip + improved rice), Djenne grows next turn and Pottery is due in 2 turns.

Buddhism was founded this turn, looking at the score increases I'd say it was rego's team that got it.

Nakor has settled towards me this turn 2S of my healing warrior. I consider this city to be downright aggressive towards me and I'm not happy about it. Not sure if its their 2nd or 3rd city and I can't check right now because Kodii is ingame. Seems more likely to be their 2nd.

With the 10 turn cooldown on the NAP it will be hard to attack it later by surprise so I may not resign our NAP and hit them when Maces appear as it'll be a difficult fight with copper right behind the city.

Whatever the case, this city makes me want Spulla to agree to letting me settle one more city their way more important as I definately don't want Nakor encroaching any further.

edit - yep its their 2nd city

Demographics from 2080 BC

Looking good there, I'm unlikely to be top 3 in GNP with the financial civs at this stage so the high food and solid production are just what I need, other civs will need to bulk up their military ASAP since I've spotted a barb warrior next to my skirmisher, interesting to see if anyone falls foul of them.

Picture from Nakors perspective. The city is certainly a long way away from his capital (1 or 2 more tiles than mine) and aside from the plains copper has zero production. My brain is telling me to let our NAP expire and kick his ass while he's vulnerable, but I don't want to slow my expansion up. If I were to attack him, he would only really be able to train axes in the new city and a road is easily cut between there and his capital.

Got an email from Nakor too

Nakor Wrote:Hi Dantski,

How is our closest and best neighbour doing?

We went for the copper spot with our settler, as you must have seen.
You told us you weren't planning on settling in our direction, so therefore are pretty certain that you don't see our move as a threat to your empire.
It just was the best copper site for us, so don't be afraid once you see some axes defending our cities.

We both get our horses online after our capital's border pops, so I think that's the case for all civs. Horses outside the BFC of the capital.

We also saw that Budism was founded. Was it you and can we expect a missionary soon? Or was it someone else?

We still haven't met anyone else... have you?

Hope to hear from you soon!

Nakor

Well he revealed that I have horses nearby and that he does too, also he hasn't come to my conclusion that rego founded Buddhism. I think there's a window of opportunity here even with the NAP cooldown to attack and take the copper city at least.

The question is when is the best time to attack? He can have an axe ready before my skirmishers can attack and even then archers can stop me taking the city until I get my own copper hooked up. So the thing is I need metal to actually take/raze the city I think but when should that be? I figure any city after my gold city has to be in Nakor's direction, but considering the lack of production it would be fairly vulnerable itself. At the moment I'm leaning towards settling the deer/wheat coast spot and sometime after that attacking them.

p.s. No reply from Sullla/Speaker yet in regards to the settling.

I don't think your attack chances with skirmishers are very good as Nakor will see you coming; a chariot rush from the fog would be more effetive. That said, I think it's best to carry on settling for now as this is what you've set up your civ to do. Renew NAP, settle the copper, then the deer & wheat, then the one toward Spullla. Longer term, you probably want to ally with Nakor & Jowy against Team Spullla as they're likely to be perceived by all as a probable winner.
