Yeah, settle 2E, it seems pretty competitive with 2N, even without the flood plain. Partly that's because I'm capping growth at size 2 for a while, so the sheep is actually better than the corn. Though growing afterwards is tough.

I missed your suggestion of scouting NW, I was thinking we would check out this 2E plains hill because the 2N was the better fallback option. Are you happy to go with that, settler NE this turn, next turn scout SE and then we decide? It looks like the hills/forest to the north will obscure full view of that BFC anyway.

Btw, Comm has a plains hill plant, both Ot4e and 2metra are moving(presumably to one).

Well crap.

Not sure which way to go ...

Think I still prefer settling on the sheep plains hill and getting a settler out ASAP to settle on the river by the corn. The city is not a long term capital of course. Hopefully it won't orphan any seafood.

Yeah, I'm strongly in favour of settling the sheep site.

The main negative IMO is the chance of orphaning some fish, but we're probably only talking about some second ring stuff we won't use for a while. Seems like we'd need some plan where we grow straight to size 3 for the corn to get some sort of advantage.

Pros:
-Up a bunch of beakers from oasis/sheep.
-Great second city(corn, shared sheep, immediate trade route), in comparison no clear 2nd city with the corn location.
-IMO, more obvious how to grow the sheep city after settler(FP farm can be just done) than the corn site. Ties into the point above, but it looks easy enough to set the capital up to pump hammers(settlers) and let city 2 work some cottages.
-Not moving further north, probably away from contested land. Moving east could also be doing so, but less likely.
-What extra resource could we hit in the corn city? Deer, which requires an extra tech, looks the most likely.

Arrgh, geez, oh no, that is not what we were hoping to see. Man, this start gets me all riled up. But I guess everybody's starts are like this, as it looked like HALF of all players decided to wander? It's like Dr. C read all my posts about what I think makes a great multiplayer map in the PB27 lurker thread and decided to do the exact opposite. lol

Ummmm, yeah, I think its just too much of an uncontrolled gamble to continue to the NE. I think that having the oasis and the plainshill sheep is at least something we can work with, given that we're Imp and we can do stuff with the hammers... if we move N or NE and find nothing, we could end up wandering for several more turns. Regarding orphaning a fish, that might be devastating given how food-sparse this map appears so far, but we can mitigate that somewhat by moving the scout first next turn, before we settle.

By the way, you mean, 1SE, not on the actual sheep plains hill, right?

Hey, sorry but I didn't have time to do any sims tonight; got a doctor's apt early in the morning tomorrow. I should be able to do some tomorrow night, however!
