RBP3 [SPOILERS] - Friendly Kittens (Ragnar of Maya)

Maniac Marshall Wrote:I gave some of the above a cursory glance yesterday, but I'd be lying if I said I'd really looked it over seriously. TBH, with us having played, what, 1 turn in the last 2 weeks, and (guestimating) 4-5 turns in the last month I have actually begun to lose some interest in the game since I've found other things to do to keep me busy since Memorial Day.
This is a good sign. Other interests are good. Please don't let the game make you sick (again) and eat up all your time.

Quote:I'm sure being gone and having fun at the cons, followed by being sick as a dog the last 2 weeks (maybe I'm FINALLY feeling better today) has had an impact as well.
Seriously, those cons sound like they were terrific. I'm glad you had a good time!

Quote:Lets hope I can get geared up again when the game gets going again.
Actually ... I kinda hope you don't get TOO geared up for it. I've kind of enjoyed the s-l-o-w pace of the game lately, because it's given me time to think about some in-game things in depth WITHOUT spending all my free time on the game. For my part, when/if the pace picks up again, I won't be giving up the other-stuff-in-my-free-time; I'll be giving up (as needed) my looking-in-depth-at-the-game. To the extent you're able, I hope you can continue taking the game in small(er) doses too. Some things are just more important.

Morgan Wrote:I'm off to the smoke (london) for the day/weekend so if you can play that would be very good.
I hope you have/are-having/had a great weekend in London!

In other news: My computer is almost (almost) fully up to speed again, and I expect to be able to run civ on it again sometime within the next one to two weeks ... which should mean I might even be able to (gasp) log in and look at the game from time to time, or even play a turn or two if needed.

Don't look now, but the turn finally rolled... Can you get it Morgan? If not, I can play it in about 24hrs.

Hey Chaps. Krill wanted Ecomomics, we got 82g lol

1, Chopped Jungle in Feng Shui - cottage or farm the G/land? Cottage me thinks.
2, GM where is he off to?
3, What to do with the Taoist Mis?
4, who can I beg cash from?

few harder ones;

1. Friend and Foe - remind me what neigbours / areas need watching. Which of our cities need a resonable defence?
2. could you mark the sentry chariots that can be redepolyed.

Manic - feel free to finish the turn if you desire, i'll log in again in around 12h.

HV - Is now on a Aquaduct for 1 turn - I notice we have a Library in the queue - has there been a change? We have a few superceeded spreasheets in odd places.

Would it be a massive pain to request a consolidated list of plans and spreads? It will be a very easy to make a mistake trawling through 8 pages.

Cottage eventually, definitely. Is that the best immediate use for the workers, though? Due to health cap, the city might not be working that tile very soon either way. (I might not even be thinking of the right tile though.)

Hmmm. I could hazard a guess, but ... Maniac?

Quote:1. Friend and Foe - remind me what neigbours / areas need watching. Which of our cities need a resonable defence?
In theory, if everyone keeps their current agreements with us, the only attack we could expect in the immediate term would be from or through Incan territory, on "Green Dot" (I don't know what we named that city). Current allies are the other PAT civs: Babylon, Mali, England, Egypt, and Carthage. We have 10-turn auto-renewal NAPs, including No RoP clauses, with both India and Azteca, the only two non-PAT civs that border us, apart from the Inca/Green-Dot area.

Eh ... I haven't been able to log into the game in months, so ... Maniac?

Luckily, I anticipated this a couple pages ago and posted the most up-to-date spreadsheets for Fierias, HV, and Smithsonian here and the worker plan for Smith in the following post: here. (The plan takes into account the presence of a library in HV's queue, with 15 hammers invested, even though it won't be used for a while - so long as there's a barracks with 12 hammers invested in it too!)

1) Cottage - The 4 farmed FP's are lent, even if we eventually give 1 or 2 over to Temminck.

2) The Great Merchant is on his way to Animal Farm in England to conduct a trade mission for cash so we can keep researching at 100%. He came from a tech so he's PAT's GP, not ours. He needs to have a Knight escort him on his move into Mali. Once he's deep within Mali's boarders, the knight can return home.

3) According to Ref, we wanted to use the missionary to convert HV. As far as I know, the great bread robbery has not changed this plan (if it has, he'll let you know. There is no super urgent rush to convert anywhere, as in a turn or two waiting for his final ok is fine.

4) At the moment, you can ask for cash from anyone besides Carthage, but I'd ask England first, then Egypt, then Mali, then Babylon.

1A) The 5 civs mentioned above are in PAT (our alliance). Byzantium is an ally until I tell you otherwise, though we have no formal NAP. We DO have a formal NAP with India and Aztec that also prevents ROP for attacking stacks. This leaves only Inca in theory.

Best if we defend Green Dot (I forgot what we named it) especially, and then HV, Ornata, and finally Temminck. The rest of our cities should be back line.

2A) I think Ref covered this one.

OK, Chimeee and Thomas, the workers at Thundara need to head back NOW, or the plan at HV is going to be impossible.

T136 move W-NW to the desert and CANCEL.

T137 move N to the FP and Farm.

T138 Farm

T139 Farm

Koivu should make a ROAD not a farm on the tile he's on next turn, so that he can move over and assist the other two workers w/o losing an action, so...

T136 Road (complete)

T137 move E-E road (complete)

T138 move E to the FP and Farm.

T139 move 1W back to the plains and farm

Regarding the Chariots, I THINK they are all needed where they are. We are trying to bust all possible barb spawning. The one by Byz's archer really IS needed because he's busting the corn, and no other unit is. I THINK the one at Violet Dot is needed, but I'm not absolutely sure. I can question Krill about it if you want.

I THINK the only area left where barbs can attack us from is east of Red Dwarf, which is why we have a crossbow there, and will soon have a knight over there as well when it's done healing and the road is complete. Pretty sure that all other areas are completely covered by either our boarders, other civs boarders, or sentries (including the Byz archer and Krill's WC which are permanently stationed as sentries vs each other heh.

We DO have a chariot out E of RD, but it isn't a sentry chariot... If we are SURE the one at Violet isn't needed, it can head over to bust east of RD.

OK, some cities have plans, others don't. At those that don't, I thought I'd suggest next builds.

Pride Rock is about to go unhealthy. It should probably start a grocer next turn, and then double whip it 3 turns into it's build. It needs the missionary that is being made at FS to make this happen.

Temminck is showing 8 turn to the Uni. In 3 turns it should be down to double whip. I'd suggest pulling the trigger on the Uni at that point. After that, it should start on a grocer. It does have a little wiggle room because we built a duct there, but you can be sure it will need the grocer eventually.

FS should make another missionary, because we need to get religion into Thundara (Green Dot), then it desperately needs a grocer. IMO, it needs this more than the Uni, though it wants one of those post haste too. Are we serious about making this city into a hammers city? If so, we could watermill those formerly jungle tiles instead of cottaging... Also, we should consider mining that plains hill in the near futute as well (NOT immediately, just soonish).

Kilrah does need a grocer... It can make one after it finishes the Monastery. IT should be able to build it for 2 turns, then double whip it. It can then slip in the theater and go back to military for a bit. Seriously, we need some cardboard cutouts so we don't look pathetic.

The rest of the cities are all either very small and/or have plans.

I know we need to slip in theaters, but until we have enough cities ready to build them, I don't think they are uber priority.

RefSteel Wrote:Other thoughts/suggestions/questions:

1) Hukawng Valley will have a theater soonish. I advise putting one at Ornata ASAP. Fierias can build one pretty much whenever it wants (once the U Sankore is finished). That leaves five before we can build the Globe. Do we have any estimates for when and where they're most likely to be completed?

Thundara obviously needs one after the grainery, and even before the forge. Ornata will get one after the forge. The capital will get one after Sankore. Kilrah can have one in like 5 turns. HV has a plan for one. PR, Temminck, and and FS can build one after their grocers. That's 8. Is that sufficient?

RefSteel Wrote:2) Feng Shui is one of the cities growing into unhealth. It has an unshared grass hill mine it isn't working. Will it slow down our research too much for Temminck to switch from the gold to one of the shared FP farms while FS works that mine?

It exactly grew into that mine last turn, so that was efficient. We use/abuse the whip a LOT at FS because of the +10 food it has. Temminck will grow next turn and will get a FP at least temporarily soon. I'm micromanaging it.

RefSteel Wrote:If FS does grow into unhealth, it's in a similar position to Kilrah (i.e. needs a health building, and should be whipped ASAP).

It'll get one soon. 4 or 5 lost food there is unfortunately NOT more important than getting a missionary done. It grew this turn, it'll grow again in 3 turns even with the unhealth. The Grocer will be next after the two missionaries unless you can convince me our new FP city doesn't need the missionary asap, and I think it REALLY does.

RefSteel Wrote:3) Pride Rock is the third soon-to-be-not-healthy city. I know you don't want to whip this place, Maniac, but for each pop by which it passes the health cap, one of its plains farms becomes a de-facto 1/1/1 tile. If we don't want to freeze its growth to let Temminck use its fp farm or something, whipping is going to become necessary. If we can get a hinduism in there, it can put one turn into a 'duct and whip it for two pop the following turn, but since I don't see Hinduism getting there any time soon, the place will be fine for a little while if it just whips the Cat to completion.

It's not going to be working a plains farm, it's going to be working a "nothing" grass farm for 3 turns. I already said above that it needs a grocer, will start on one next, and will whip it when it can double whip it. That's why the next missionary is headed there, so the dead pop will be 45 hammers.

RefSteel Wrote:4) Do you think I'm correct in my estimation that we (PAT) won't have rifling for at least 15 turns, but that it will likely take no more than 20?

Correct. We have 7 turns on replacable parts, then it SHOWS 13 on Rifling, BUT, we'll have 2 prereqs before then, plus another Uni and Hopefully sankore, so I'm expecting the 20 turns to be something like 16-18.

RefSteel Wrote:5) If we're just going to put our next Great Person on ice for a Golden Age, we should probably try to get one out of a completely mixed bag at someplace like HV, for minimal delay of a better pool at Smithsonian. Doing it at HV while also completing the Globe and growing back from size 5 will be challenging, but I think it's our best bet. We probably shouldn't go for a Worker there after the next Settler regardless, but hopefully I can put an alternate plan together that gets both the Globe at a reasonable time and a Great Somebody. When will I do this? Hahahahahaha, good point. But we've got some time, as at the rate things are going, we won't finish the settler there for a month or two at least.

Agree

RefSteel Wrote:6) While I disagree with Maniac about both the probability of and the way to prepare for a Cav rush, I've learned to trust his instincts on this game. Plus I'm pretty much completely out of touch with the state of diplomacy. I'm not sure what good Pikes will do even if there's pre-Cav junk in a Cav stack, but I may just not understand the way MP battles get fought. At all events, large cities in large numbers with lots of happy bonuses are always good things. And if we get rushed pre-cavalry, having pikes would of course be neat.

Pikes in a city still have SOME odds vs Cavs. Nothing we can currently make is better. Agree we don't want a ton of them. Agree we should also have Knights and Cats onhand. Just... isn't... enough... time... for exerything we SHOULD have (ARGH!)

After we get a pike or 2, we should probably push cats, but maybe Morgan has a good answer to this?

It's exceedingly late now, I need to think about your other post later, as the Kilrah thing is interesting... It's already working an Engineer, but was going to only for a couple turns...
