Realms Beyond Pitboss Planning Thread

Ok guys, 2 things:

First, I'm creating three posts in the new subforum. My own player thread is self-explanatory. The "no players" discussion thread is also self explanatory, and I'll never be inside again after creating the first posts. Finally, the "Cape Town Bar and Grill" player discussion thread is for all of us, but only once you have made contact with all other civs in game.

Second, I have a test game up. The IP is 68.55.111.60:2061 I've tested things out inside my network, but I've not been able to test outside it, so let me know if there are any problems. It appears the first time you choose a leader/civ you get to set a password. It also appears that on the first turn clicking "end turn" may not work - it doesn't appear to remember "end turns" until everyone has logged in once, at least in my test game.

The test game has correct leader/civ pairs, but everything else is pretty random. As soon as everyone has been able to connect, or after a day or so, I'll load up the real game.

EDIT: Also, I don't know how static my IP address is, though I don't believe it changes very often. If it does turn out to frequently change I'll create a static domain for you guys to connect to, but for now we can use this system.

Also, does anyone know I need to manually save the Pitboss game? Or does civ auto-save on the client side?

I have logged in successfully (twice) and ended turn.

I almost like this start better than the one Sullla gave us! smile

When I try to connect, it says "The connection attempt to the host has timed out."

EDIT: Nevermind, I got it working. I had to disconnect from my work's VPN (duh), and set my PC as the DMZ.

I connected fine and ended turn. I got a couple pop ups saying someone failed connection check firewall settings.

OK, I managed to connect, but I'm an idiot and I picked Zulu for some reason.

Good thing this wasn't the real game bang

I couldn't connect to Broker33. Check your router and make sure that you are forwarding port 2056 for civ4. If it works for you, please exit the game so that I can try smile

Here is a picture of my router set up for civ4. If you go to the dos prompt (type 'command' at the run box) and type 'ipconfig' it will tell you what your ip address is. Then go and 'enable' the appropriate one. You can enable them all but the router will send Civ4 messages to everyone on your network and the other people will start to hate you.

If you don't have a static IP, we could try Hamachi.
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

Ok got that message again

Incomming player has failed to connect to you and is unable to join the game. Please verify your firewall settings allows incomming connections for Civilization IV.

My settings shouldnt affect this right?

If it does I will need some help modifying them or I could just bypass the router when I sign in.

Broker, now that you left the game Ruff was able to sign in. Can you try signing back into the game?

I don't think players blocking other players will affect the game except when they both try to log in at once. FYI the default civ port is 2056 and my game is using 2061...maybe people with firewalls need to open both...I don't know.
