Where there's a will there's a way.

– Load commando into Galleon
– Send workers in to build RR's (maybe send a pair deeper a turn early to RR that tile because you have Ironclad in your fort ... 2 harmless workers sent in early shouldn't alarm you, right?)
– Send stack of workers to build fort in 1-turn
– Move in galleon, unloading in my fort allows full movement still.
– ALT+Click to declare war and avoid mishap.
– BOOM! HE city razed hammer

P.S. This is why I made the map stitches. Quality may not be as good, but it's much more convenient to snip the relevant shot out of the stitch than logging in (especially once the game gets taken down).

Right. The game's outcome was decided when Cornflakes declined my offer to attack Bigger together. TO the one who was saying in the lurker's thread that I am vastly exaggerating the threat that Bigger poses as runaway nation I can say I regret it seems I was the only one to see this clearly at the moment, because only 5-10 turns later everyone conceded to Bigger. I've been way too many time in the runaway role myself to recognize it when I see it. "Meta-game" if I understand this term right was the weakest part of some of the players in this game in my opinion.

The turns were taking me 1-1.5 hours to play just moving units around and managing the cities and I wasn't paying much attention to foreign events. I just had a huge army, and 2metra was engaged in the south with Commodore so I figured I'd attack. Only after the attack was begun did I realize that Bigger was almost to tanks.

Also, I should have kept my last 2 GG's for Commando, rather than settling them in Postos. Yeah, the 3rd promo there is nice and all ... but my scouting impi and Knights revealed that Bigger's most important backlines cities including HE and Wonders-Galore were defended by single warriors and within RR range of a border. Combine that with my 5 Galleons/5 Ironclads in AT waters and I could have made a devastating 1st strike.

??

my HE city was landlocked and not a border city at all.. not sure how you could have threatened it?

most of the cities near your navy/off that big lake were small and young cities I wouldnt have cared much if you razed them. the exception was the one I took from AT that I was pumping all the culture into, but it was defended pretty heavily.

Ah, Cornflakes did explained why no city is safe in the modern age. Same was applying with your capitol btw, I would have razed it if was not the Commodore attack. Kudos to Cornflakes who showed quite a imagination in warfare for a first MP game. Well done.

umm, what? You can't use enemy railroads, they would have been off limit to you as soon as war was declared. the orange path you marked there would have taken you 4 turns even w/ 2 movers, pretty sure I could have reacted to any stack by then. thats why its so hard to invade in the railroad era, before fighters come online - railroads are great for defense, but useless for the attacker! (except for strange situations where the culture disappears temporarily and they are in neutral lands)

what! you tried that a couple of turns before commodore invaded, I had too many troops in it! by the time commodore attacked most of your army in my territory had been slaughtered.

Units with the Commando promotion can use enemy railroads.

I dont really know how much experience you have in MP, but from what I am reading here I think it is not big. You cant see the threat even after Cornflakes showed you the plan. From this, tent to think you had no chance seeing the threats I was preparing for you at the time.

ah, of course. still I was 1 turning units at this point, and I was actually holding a stack there for the last 10 turns, so I'm skeptical he could have caught it only defended by an axe. and no, cornflakes, I wouldnt have thought 2 workers in my territory building roads to be harmless tongue

this is a lot more condescension than is appropriate from someone that just lost. I never claimed to be an expert. why don't you explain it, then, instead of being a smart ass?

Cornflakes dont even needed to send the workers upfront. If you had OB, the 3 pairs of workers needed to be downloaded from galleons in the newly built fort and do the RR before actually declare war. As for you building 1 unit each turn there, the simplest solution would have been Cf to just wait to play after you in the turn, when you will be already sent this newly produced unit to join the stack you are being gathering nearby smile

smile I dont know, I just started to think I helped to win to the wrong player.
