I finally got around to finishing a SP romp on this map. Anyone want to guess the final city count to hit domination?

Significantly less. The exact number needed is hard to say because so many cities were in resistance. Domination required the full western starting continent as well as approximately 80% of the astronomy islands. I ended up with nearly all of the islands and still had 8-10 cities on the main continent waiting to come out of revolt.
So yeah, domination is not a possibility for MP. I think the final number was 236. Another 25 razed for good feelings waiting for mainland resistance to wrap up.
Krill and TaoMack are the only ones I've read who've decided that an Astro-beeline and the islands are going to be the way forward. I wonder which islands they'll get?

Playing wasn't really a test of SP ability, more an attempt to see exactly how impossible some victory conditions would be for multiplayer games. My conclusion is that only culture and space will ever be viable under these settings. I'd like to find a way for the game mechanics to make domination possible again. Some good suggestions have been made upstream in this thread. I'll agree with some who have posted here that this is a good map. It is very interesting and for almost every player has lots of options for advancement. Just have to watch out for that juggernaut neighbor that you probably should have done something about sooner.
Q on overseas trade routes (for a pbem I am in) ... one player is saying he is getting no trade routes with the other continent (he has astronomy, OBs with various people and neither are in merc) ... do both parties need Astro for trade routes? He can trade resources.
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

I don't think Astro is needed on both sides. The most common reason I've seen for missing trade routes is someone missing an actual scouted-out path all the way to the opponent's city. Second most common is a recent war. Either of those applicable?

I know that the o/s person has seen at least one coast (he captured a city). There are some wars going on.
