Do they believe we'll be an easy medieval expansion target in any case and are trying to weaken their future neighbour? Just thinking over the consequences of attacking them and whether that's a relationship we want to sabotage or if it's doomed anyway. That city is quite threatening.

I don't think I've got an option but to be an easy medieval target. Ideally I get to catapults before they hit knights and make myself unpalatable.

While I'm clearly in revenge-mode and pursuing OT6mn I think they'll give me rope. If I can manage not to lose my whole stack on the eastern front they should think twice about going to war with me. Also I haven't found a southern neighbour for them yet, so I think they've still got plenty of room to expand peacefully.

Gavanth have some nice (barbarian) land here. Still haven't met a neighbour Iiam.

And the invasion gets underway. Brilliantly ComeGetSome grew so they can whip another spear rolleye, but also I can choose to keep it if I want to... Any thoughts?

Why keep what you can burn? [Image: emot-supaburn.gif]

Well, it's a better front city with regard to land attack, but worse with regard to sea attack. It secures the corn, but stretches the empire wide. We're behind, so a city gained would be nice. We're behind, so only risky plays can help us? Keep?

Yeah, I'm happy taking risks here, although it may depend how well we can reinforce the city. I'm going to assume most of OT6mn's army is deep in ipecac's land though, so lets press on!

They didn't whip the city or add another spear, so I ran some sims of what happens after I send the 12 chariots in:
AxesRedlined AxesRedlined SpearsFlawless lossesChariots leftSuccess?

0 3 1 4 shades
1 3 3 4 crazyeye

Total: 62.5%

It looks like the number of flawless losses loosely correlates to success - if we get two then I'll think about calling the attack off. If we get three then I'm almost certainly screwed...

Anyhow I think I'll attack now:
WC vs C1 Spear 0.7% (9.9% retreat)... LOSS - 2 hits smile

WC vs Spear 1.1% (9.9% retreat)... LOSS - 1 hit scared
WC vs Spear 1% (9.9% retreat)... FLAWLESS LOSS frown
WC vs Spear 1% (9.9% retreat)... LOSS - 1 hit scared
WC vs 3.4/4 Spear 3.7% (9.9% retreat)... FLAWLESS LOSS frown

Bah. So do I cut my losses now (I'm almost certain to lose three more chariots now) or just say fuck it?

WC vs 3.4/4 Spear 3.7% (9.6% retreat)... LOSS - 5 hits smile
WC vs 3.4/4 Spear 7.7% (9% retreat)... - 2 hits smile
WC vs 2.9/4 C1 Spear 17% (8% retreat)... WIN!!!! !!! !! ! dancing :TWIRL: - 5XP!
WC vs 2.2/4 Spear 59% (4% retreat)... WIN! - 3 Hits smile - 5XP
WC vs Axe 90% (1% retreat)... WIN! - 1 hit - 2XP
WC vs Axe 90% (1% retreat)... WIN! - 1 hit - 2XP

WC vs Axe 90% (1% retreat)... WIN! - 1 hit - 2XP

Okay, that's all the chariots, we have five survivors, all of which can promo-heal which is a bit less than I was hoping for. There are one full strength axe and a redlined spear left. I've got three axes and two spears left. Attacking with my C1 Axe would get 20% but I decided to use a greenie:

Axe vs Axe 9.9%... LOSS - 3 hits! twirl

C1 Axe vs injured Axe 89%... WIN - 1 hit smile
Axe vs 0.6/4 Spear 99.9%... FLAWLESS WIN!

Took the city, 26 gold and the Granary survived! I left an axe+spear in the city and moved an axe+spear+chariot to the other hill to protect my chariot stack (it's vulnerable to a water-borne attack, but I'd guess all their boats are harassing ipecac). I'll have to look out for the GG that OT6mn got from the battles, but I'm moderately happy with how that went.

Can someone ask if the Blood God is sated?

For now. But the Blood God is never truly sated...

Thanks!

Just a note - I lost seven WCs and one Axe while OT6mn lost four Axes and three Spears. That's 245 hammers each. I also gained a bunch of XP and a city with a granary and I'm about half way to my first GG. Meanwhile OT6mn gained a great general (which they were well on their way towards anyway) and they have a far larger production capacity and existing army so I'm not under the illusion that I've crippled them.

Anyhoo, there's a lot more forests out there to chop into Chariots, Spears or Axes...

OT6mn just took 4.5 hours over their turn yikes lol.... I don't think we took that long in pb18 with a 70 city empire and multiple hot wars! More info tomorrow when I'm less drunk and more hungover.

I'm keen to hear votes for pressing on into the heartland of the enemy or being happy with what I already took. Xenu, I already recorded your vote.
