Soooo....

Quote:10:28:16 AM - Xenu: this may be filed under retarded but it could hasten our exit from the game....an idea i had this morning
10:28:37 AM - Xenu: so far sistine hasn't been built. most people haven't even researched music. i think just suttree who got the free artist, IIRC
10:28:49 AM - Xenu: we could go full retard and try a way late culture victory just to make someone kill us
10:28:57 AM - Commodore Sven: Dude
10:29:02 AM - Commodore Sven: That's awesome
10:29:03 AM - Xenu: in the act we'd see who was really interested in playing on
10:29:15 AM - Commodore Sven: You totally have the inland cities to do it, too
10:29:22 AM - Xenu: yeah...but not the mature cottages
10:29:29 AM - Xenu: capital would be boated to oblivion
10:29:40 AM - Commodore Sven: Although, um, WilliamLP won't worry about the culture border much now. tongue
10:29:46 AM - Xenu: so would teh second city, those are the ones with any appreciable culture yet
10:29:58 AM - Xenu: so we'd have to start from scratch down south
10:30:08 AM - Commodore Sven: Great Artists are how it works
10:30:19 AM - Xenu: i know...i have trouble believing we'd get enough to actually do it though
10:30:30 AM - Xenu: since we wasted so many early great people on other pursuits
10:30:44 AM - Xenu: it's obviously much less likely to succeed than lewger
10:30:49 AM - Xenu: lewger's PB8 attempt
10:30:55 AM - Xenu: but still, it's at least some goal we could pursue
10:31:07 AM - Xenu: we do have access to 5 religions, i counted that this morning
10:31:14 AM - Xenu: could get busy spreading them around with whips i suppose
10:31:33 AM - Commodore Sven: Seriously, if it's fun, dooo eet
10:31:39 AM - Xenu: trouble is we'd likely have to finish off rifling first, and nationhood
10:31:49 AM - Xenu: but i guess the linchpin would be getting sistine going
10:31:50 AM - Commodore Sven: Um
10:31:53 AM - Commodore Sven: Not really
10:32:01 AM - Commodore Sven: Sistine/Rep artists?
10:32:09 AM - Commodore Sven: That's actually decent tech
10:32:18 AM - Xenu: we're going to die fast when our now uber militarized cannon toting neighbor gets interested
10:33:19 AM - Xenu: if nothing else, though, it changes the game a small bit. william and retep would both probably have to crash down on us if we made it at least look possible
10:33:28 AM - Xenu: winner of this plan, wetbandit
10:33:35 AM - Xenu: don't say i never gave you anything smile

Does anyone know why Hippodromes can't run two artist specialists like regular theatres can? Surely not because its special characteristics are so much better that it needed nerfing. Caste will obviously be required anyway, but I'd never noticed this before. Probably because I haven't ever really built many hippodromes, it's kind of a crap UB anyway and losing part of its base building features doesn't help. Kind of like the cataphract losing its first strike immunity. wink The designers hated Byzantium, obviously. (OK, I get the lack of first strike immunity on phracts since they're overpowered anyway, I'm just pushing a conspiracy theory here).

T215 - Short on time so I'll post more about the (abortive) CV attempt over the weekend. But yeah, no way this works. I don't think attempting any particular new victory condition on turn 215 is liable to have much success. lol

I chose the three target cities. Feel free to provide alternatives, Boldly. Nothing is committed yet, other than the Buddhist missionary who spread religion into Tyler this turn.

All of our best choices are coastal and we have no navy and will never have naval technology parity, so defending them against the inevitable CV stop invasion would be impossible. So these are the three inland cities with the best production potential to be able to get the necessary cathedrals built and (possibly) survive the eventual invasion ordeal. I don't like that two of the cities are one tile off the coast, but given enough collateral support and gobs of junk defenders, we can maybe drive them back into the sea when it comes to it. Pitboss 6 and a stack of 200 odd unit defenders comes to mind...if only we could conjure up that kind of defense. lol

Cities:

I Burn will have 2 Confucian missionaries ready in five turns, to sail off toward the mainland. I'll use them first in nearby high production coastal cities so they can start building the next six Confucians we'll need. Obviously the target is to have nine cities with each of the five religions we have, and to get all 5 religions spread into the three CV cities so we can cram them full of cathedrals. Generate some great artists, settle the first few, and hope to bomb the rest. It won't go to plan because we won't be able to generate enough GAs to complete it, but we'll maybe make it half way if we're lucky. Oh, speaking of great people, we'll get one next turn from Mister Love, but it's only 3% odds to be an artist. How about some RNG love??? rolleye

Tech screen. One (more) thing that could throw a wrench in the plan is if Suttree decides he wants to run us over with cavalry. That would suck, eh? Should we offer a mutual defense pact with him since we're both such peaceniks? lol

Here's our current culture graph, of course missing Kuro's data since he's furiously spending EPs still. neenerneener

And demographics.

William's golden age ended so now it's just Retep blowing away the GNP and MFG numbers. But we're at least average in MFG nowadays. That crop yield number is just silly, though, considering that we aren't all that far behind in the number of land tiles. But all those islands, it adds up.

Oh, bonus time:

Our workers are out of really useful things to do so I've been exploring with them for a while. I sent this guy down here to chop a forest but...well we won't even get any hammers out of it, we'd just kill the forest. I ended up leaving it there. Maybe I'll gift the worker to Oxy and let him chop it or something. Or not. The worker is just headed back to our territory for now. I'm not sure why Oxy left these forests down here though, they're worth a few spare hammers, may as well chop 'em.

Probably a historical reasoning / realism change. Hippodromes are racetracks for chariots, not exactly places where artists would thrive. (Although I believe at least one hippodrome still in existence is now regularly hosting concerts.) The cataphract change is the same thing. Cataphracts were heavy cavalry so they presumably charged slower than regular knights and thus archers would get more time to shoot arrows at them before they engaged.

Brick, back away from the ledge. You guys are going to be just fine. You don't get super interested until it's time for divine intervention, and you've already scored a few times. Don't panic. popcorn
