Ruff, playing checked out and listless, have been moving up my target queue while Greenline got himself some longbows and Ipecac is all the way up to pikes. So...it goes. I've been trying as best I can to "keep it casual", waiting until the last minute, making it look like I was punching the main knight force towards Greenline...but that set up to nicely dovetail with the assault on Graham here, as the main hitch in my getalong. The lovely thing is that besides a single spear, the bulk of the garrison was axes and an archer. Which immortals are uniquely suited to clearing. I used just three knights here, the rest was immortals. This is important, of course, because make precisely *zero* mistake, my archrival for the PBEM 75 crown is Ipecac. He's been playing a very solid game as his empire's fundamentals are equal to my own. He's also put himself together a good solid swarm of horse archers. If he'd been just a scoosh more aggressive with their placement, he'd be primed to royally wreck my shit down in Dalek. As it is, I'm trying to massage some vulnerability signals out of my exposed little factory town down here. Grand total of ten knights in easy range if he hops aboard to the floodplain. I suspect he'll be cautious, alas; stand fast in Awlil and add some bulk Ruffage to his diet. So, here we are, Year of Our Lord 680. Three nice cities added, reasonably confident in keeping. MoM-city Eckie currently held by just a single warrior, although threatened but lightly. It's gonna be a fun war. Let's liven this subforum up a bit.

Police State is tons of fun, but losing Representation sucked. I'm currently in last place in GNP. Means I'm losing, right? ![]() Ipecac, alas, didn't push in, just moved up to fork Dalek and Melconian. I'm covering them fine, although I'm more than a little dismayed to have to tie down knights right now as defenders. Crossbowmen too, but meh. ![]() Boring turn in the war this time, just popped a couple exposed units and then took Eckie, albeit I'm holding her lightly. Cricklewood projects a big culture shadow, need to kill it before anything can be fluid on this front. ![]() I'm optimistic on this war so far, but Ruff's got a huge empire, lightly-held though it is. I fully expect Greenline and Ipecac to pile on to his side-stuff. I certainly hope they do; otherwise it's going to be another stressful PBEM 64 situation.

I don't know if I've added much to the RB codex, in terms of the metagame. I've got several record-speed knight rushes under my belt, but only by a couple turns. I'm a fan of super-capitals, with the Ottawa meme and all, but I'm pretty sure that's to my detriment. In the Canada game I codified something that most vets knew by gut, that land wars at tech parity are crummy (note here, even though I had a significant power edge on Greenline and his empire would integrate better, his longbows/catapults were enough to make it a bad bad deal). But if I leave you with one single thought, let it be this: Crossbows are majorly underrated.
![]() I say that even though I lost two of those three despite those good odds. Guerilla II crossbows are a joy, keeping up with knight stacks and countering spears/pikes/maces very nicely. I lost those two crossbows, but that was it this turn; my precious knights are intact and I'm sitting much prettier now with the massive Stonehenge culture gone. I'm going to call Cimmarian (MoM city) my border for now; the rough terrain means I'm comfy enough with letting it lie. Greenline, anytime you want to jump in, take yourself a wedge man. ![]() Much tenser is the eastern front; Ipecac is tying down way more crap than I'm happy with, and I'm pretty sure if he doesn't hop in soon to dogpile Ruff he'll be using the French roads to threaten me. So let's look thisaway. ![]() Thrilling stuff. Anyone have any questions?
