[68] Miguelito's famous last words, and Amicalola's sighs

Captain Commodore's naval exploits (a commodore is something like a captain, isnt it?):

So his trireme won flawlessly against our C2 one, then after promoting took a coinflip which he again won, then his second trireme attacked at 33% and took ours down to 5HP. We feel much wronged, although just playing it safe and eg camping the clam with 3 triremes would have avoided this in all likelyhood, and my attack with the C2 trireme was always ever going to achieve some nibbling at his fleet.

On land meanwhile there is still some justice:

For reasons beyond my understanding he left 6 2mover units without melee cover in front of Brute, where he could see 3 spears and the axes. Maybe it's an elaborate trap, and he has 10 more HAs behind? I don't think his power rating amounts to as much though. Anyways, I covered the victorious units as is visible, and Brute is still safe. Also blocking off the 4move galleys in the SE, so unless he attacks galley into galley and keeps on winning this should well be under control.

A commodore actually is a captain - under special circumstances! In a fleet without an admiral, the captain who is assigned command of the fleet is called its commodore. (In the British navy in the age of sail, this also entailed the right to fly a special pendant from the mast of the captain's ship to designate the rank. Possibly also in other navies and other times including the present, but I only know about it from the Aubrey-Maturin series - "Master and Commander" etc - so!)

"Commodore" is actually a Realms Beyonder term for an ultra-veteran of multiplayer Civ IV. tongue
That's the way I've seen it used most often in the past few years; this stuff about the British navy is an archaic use of the word if you ask me.

...

And Miguelito, I want to take this moment to express my appreciation for including little hyperbolic flourishes of phrase in your reports. "On land meanwhile there is still some justice". "For reasons beyond my understanding". Thank you, it makes me chuckle to see those over-the-top touches.
Or at least I think that is what you are trying to do, right?

Yes of course, I'm not actually this much invested in these games, that would be ridiculous haha.... But yes I try to not let it get too dry. Actually I think my reporting style in some part tries to emulate Commodore (without the big stories; there I lack the dedication, or talent). PB13 was my formative first lurked game, and Canada is unforgotten (along with the threads of scooticator, mackoti, Finharry, William(?),  Ichabod, and more... really, what a game that was)

Present day Commodore has retreated, and we are bulding a workboat. Yuri's GA is over, no literature visible. He managed an impressive CY spike:

Did he just finish all the lighthouses on the same turn?

Well, that was a thorough waste of hammers for everybody involved.
Past Games: PB51  -  PB55  -  PB56  -  PB58 (Tarkeel's game)  - PB59  -  PB60  -  PB64  -  PB66  -  PB68 (Miguelito's game)     Current Games: None (for now...)

Here's some always war build queues:

More Light will do Heroic Epic after the wonder, and then we go back to adding some units in earnest.

Moai and HE are also done. After NE we can do stuff like Artemis or GW in Brute if we feel like it I suppose?

Brute is already making more GPP than yuri should be able to in any given city (with 2 scientists + 1 engineer)

We have been discussing which way to take to Civil Service (1000+sth beakers), wether through CoL (442b) or Feudalism (885b). Feudalism is nice as a Guilds prereq. We could also start a GA in Vassalage and end it in Bureaucracy. Courthouses are probably not worth it yet. I sort of want the religion, but we can also just invest 140h into a monastery + 2 missionaries in Hastur. Do we want caste during the GA? Idk? I don't think it matters that much? Although we have a bunch of workshops.... actually, we could go for permanent caste once we can draft, hmmm... That means no bureaucracy though, and we'd also have to leave MoM to yuri.
I'm disgressing. The superior option for now seems to be Feudalism (launch GA) into CS, then Guilds. It makes me a bit sad, because Iwant to do stuff with Samurai, but we'd just end up building knights wouldn't we...? But that shouldn't really affect our judgement of course.

Also I still don't know how to attack here. Commodore's hill cities will have longbows by the time we can do something, and Thoth is piling up praets & cats (and a wellie recently), and attacking into that is nasty even with knights. Just keep building wonders then?

Paya is I'm assuming for Theocracy?

That is a nice bit of red text.

You know you can do a mix of units? You don't have to do all knights or all samurai  crazyeye
