[SPOILERS] Lewwyn frees slaves in Lincoln's Ethiopia

I can't speak to anything other than theory, since I participated in the map thread, but I'd like to say I find it interesting how similar your thoughts on the pairings were to mine. Other than underselling your own choice a bit, I pretty much agree with everything else you said.
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?

Yeah, I can appreciate the undersell on mine, but that's based on my POV on PHI as I said. What would have been really good is if Seven had simply given each civ a warrior start by worldbuilding it in. I think that would have helped a great deal towards balance. It would have at least helped bridge the gap between the two sets. I still feel that one set is strong even if everyone had a Warrior to start with, but it would have been much closer.

I'm glad that you read the map thread, since therefore you won't be dedlurking DMOC/Nakor and I can count on you passing through every now and again :2dance:

I was looking at the start again. The only thing I'm a little nervous about is the SE. That isn't a peninsula because it has to connect east in order for the water east to be a lake. A unit could easily come through there. Though that will depend on the terrain too. As far as I can tell theres only one tile that I wouldn't see someone approaching from. 1 tile to come into view from at the diagonal. That's pretty good for me.

I'm thinking about the second improvement after the camp. I might go with a chop on the plains hill and make a plains mine. With a plains mine I can build a warrior in 2 turns. It would be nice to have that.

I'm also relishing that my first tech will be BW. I'm thinking that fishing would be good second as its cheap and I can build a WB while growing. The other possibility is AH for the pigs, but its more expensive. I'm fairly sure I will tech one of those two, probably fishing for the Clams as it will help my tech rate as well.

I just realized that Crabby City should be Clammy City duh

Oh and a comment on the pace... I hope DMOC can pick it up. 18 and a half hours now and counting. This part of the game is already boring enough to pass turns without having to wait... I believe Nakor said DMOC is in college and therefore doesn't have time, but isn't that really the opposite argument? :neenernee

And turn came in. DMOC has not settled, SleepingMoogle settled this turn, and Mackoti settled in place last turn.

Here is the new exploration:

It is kind of nice having a scout for fast exploration. Interesting that the Banana is on forest, the sheep is in the jungle and the stone is under another forest. Still it will be nice to settle that way. I'm thinking the second city will either be north by the fish or west by the rice.

Demos:

I'm working a 2/2 tile so I have 4 food and 3 hammers.
Someone else is working a 3f/0h tile with a capital that has only 1 hammer.
Someone else is working a 2h/1f tile. It can't be 2 food or 3 hammers because the average is 2 and 2 food tile would make 5+4+0=9/3=3 average.

My deer 2f/2h tile is looking like the superior tile atm. 1 more yield than others.

Builds that make sense with this are workers. The person running the 3f tile could be building a warrior while growing but I doubt it. DMOC hasn't settled and he's the other civ with a scout start. If anyone was going to go warrior first it would have been me or him.

Here's a comment on getting hunting as a starting tech. It seems beneficial because of the deer tile I want to improve, but really even an agr/wheel start, which would not help my capital city, would be superior in terms of beakers and my first tech would simply be hunting which would be finished before the worker finished. Granted, in this situation, Hunting/Mining start gives me the ability to go straight to BW and not have to worry about getting mining or agr first. Its an interesting start with these techs.

I'm wondering now if maybe worker-warrior-WB is the way to go. I can have the first worker get the camp up, then start a chop. The warrior will finish and the chop will go into a WB. At which point I'll be 2 pop with 1 worker and warrior. Warrior starts scouting west, worker starts chopping again. City builds another worker w/ chop. Then start settler with two workers chopping. At this point AH will be researched, pigs get pastured, city grows to pop 3 building warrior and works the pigs, clams, deer. AT pop 3 I start a new worker/settler depending on how the land looks and who I've met and from which direction.

Woot! 2nd turn today! We've got a quick group here. Or at least at this point in the game.

I found nothing new with scout exploration, but I got a big happy when I ended turn and borders expanded:

Yesss, a luxury resource. Being CHA the happy cap effect is minimal, but you want to find SOME happy that isn't calendar (a la silk). Even better is its furs and I can grab it with a camp next to the deer. I may go with a city on that plains hill. The deer will be in the second ring so I'll need a quick monument....errr stele. But its got coast and lake so more super lake tiles. Additionally there's a fish south.

Also, I no longer have to worry about people getting their warriors close. I can build warriors in 3t and I can see anybody coming at least 3 turns away, even in the SE due to that hill next to the lake giving me site down the bank. Feeling good about that.

I may need Myst sooner than later. Fishing, AH, Agr, then wheel or myst...

LOL, I passed the save to Mackoti, and within 10 minutes he's passed it to DMOC again. Really nice speed. We'll definitely get way ahead of the app game with Ioan out till Monday. Maybe 5-6 turns up at this speed? Probably close to 4-5 but we'll see.

Jeez, I woke up with the turn in my email for 5 hours. I had only just played the turn before I went to bed! Moving fast~jive

Not much happened this turn I explored a bit farther. Not sure if I should continue to explore out or should circle back to defog the capital ring. I probably should circle back as I actually don't want to meet too many people early.

Also demos:

Everyone is working a 3f tile now. One Civ moved onto a plains hill though so they're getting the same yield as me only 1 turn behind. Worker in 8 turns for them.

I hope quick turns continue, its nice to get these early turns done.

Happy Easter!

So what's the deal with this PBEM? Why are there "apprentices"?
