Krill, is it better to work the Bronze Plains hill to get the WB out ASAP? or stick with the flood plains for more food?

Finally!
My tech rate is terrible! It's gonna take me seven turns to get The Wheel. And then I still have to finish pottery before I can lay down some cottage spam. Sigh...
Good news is that my two new workers are finished. Monument started in Quadratic. WB will be whipped in Integer since it just grew to size 2.

Question:
At 50% science I get 6 beakers and break even gold. At 0% science I get 0 beakers and gold. At 100% science I get 13 beakers and -6 gold. I've heard talk about the "free beaker" you get no matter what. So does that mean that running binary science is better even though I don't have any science multipliers in any cities? It seems like it ends up better.

It depends. Binary research doesn't give "more beakers". It only helps you if you accumulate gold before building a science multiplier building in a city (like before an academy in the capital).
But here's the tricky part: rounding. If you produce 15.5 beakers in a turn and 15.5 gold, you lost 0.5 beakers and 0.5 gold, since they don't get carried over and the rounding is down. So, in most cases, if you go binary, you'll end up with a round number of beakers/gold (like 31g/0b or 0g/31b), which means you didn't lost anything.
But with multiplier buildings, there are cases where binary research makes you lose beakers due to rounding too. So any of the slider positions can end up being better depending on this.
Well, that's what I know about the subject. I may be wrong in some of this assertments and I may be forgetting things. Use it wisely. :neenernee

Okay, that makes sense. So basically running 50% science is probably costing me 1 beaker per turn due to rounding. Since I don't have multiplier buildings in play yet I don't need to worry about losing beakers from rounding.
Sorry I didn't get a Demo screenshot becuase I was in a hurry to play this morning because I was late to get to work. the bad news, I'm WAY behind in GNP and significantly behind in MFG. However, good news is that I'm #1 in food and all my cities will grow when I hit end turn next! Food will eventually let me grow into GNP and MFG so I feel good about that.
But it's painfully slow getting new techs right now. Ugh. Now that I actually have more workers (4 and I will be starting #5 when the capital grows), I need more for them to do! (I shouldn't complain tho since micro plans are not in the cards so inefficiency is bound to happen at some level when playing by "gut").
With not much to build I've got an extra warrior coming out too so I'll be able to explore more quickly. I need to find Sian since we haven't made contact yet!

Interesting news:

well it isn't like catwalk and sian are the best of friends in this game. they had some diplomatic wrangling early on over their wonder allocations
of course not. i'm just speaking off the cuff here.
me
really?
i didn't know that
spacetyrantxenu
this is my first online MP game, i'm not sure i'm good enough to beat anyone here (just trying to find out), but i'm less competitive than probably a lot of people on RB. i mostly want to have fun
me
what happened?
spacetyrantxenu
they just drove a hard bargain, one against the other, for a deal on wonder no-competes
sian grabbed SH early
catwalk found out sian was gunning for the oracle, which catwalk wanted for himself
(found out when Buddhism was FIDL, i think)
so they hashed it out and came to a deal where catwalk got a no compete from the only other guy planning to build the oracle, and catwalk agreed to not go for some other wonders sian wants
i don't know specifically which ones but i assume it includes pyramids
but you didn't hear any of this from me
actually it doesn't matter, you could have heard it from me
catwalk already has the oracle and i don't care to see sian get every other wonder in the game
