So, potential game changer here:




If you fog gaze, you will see the land just south of the scout is jungle. Not sure of the relevance of that but hey, it's more information.

The grass forest 63 of the scout looks to be coastal. It isn't fresh water, so I think the land around the stone is just a bump on the coast line. Because of the relevance of the stone to a possible Henge build, I think it's worth scouting this bump, then scouting the land east of New Crapital for huts. I've only found one and some people have multiple techs, so I think I'm just unlucky on the hut locations.

The second scout will go west of Neu Crapital and swing around. At some point one of hte scouts will head off into the sunset (or sunrise, I suppose)





That stone would mean I need to produce 87 adjusted hammers to finish stone. That's 58 base hammers, and I would make 7 base hammers anyway. 51 base hammer overflow is 1 whip, 13 food hammers worth of overflow and 28 other hammers.

In other words, if I settled on the stone and researched Masonry, I'd need to do all the other micro the same and use only 1 chop, not two and would still get Henge eot T43. Fuck that. The stone isn't worth settling on, for the damage it would do to the dot map. It's a strech for a second city.

Also that double sheep city, and the tile 1E, have enough forests to chop out Mids with stone with no additional hammers needed. Now that is worth considering.

What the...?




Third early happy. That makes me want to push off Calendar and Monarchy more. Fits into the dot map easily enough.





I'm wondering how far east this continent goes, because that wheat to the south is river adjacent and it looks like it may just drop into the coast there. If that is the east coast, then where are my neighbours? We know that you should always expand towards the center of a continent to be able to claim and defend land more easily, but seriously, where the fuck are my neighbours? I've not met anyone. Is there anyone to my south?

The second scout is probably going to move 7 next turn, but 1 is also a viable option. 7 uncovers enough of the coast though, that I may just move 13 afterwards and not look for seafood; moving to the plains hill may just show that's a little nub of land. That's what I expect. I don't think the continent extends in that direction. You can tell from the way the river bends on the tile 1 of the second scout it drops into either a lake tile or the ocean, but because of the river I can't tell if it is a fresh or salt water body. 1 is a riskier move because it does not exclude the possibility of the continent ending right there. After this is sorted out, I'm sending scout2 to check out straight south. I have to know if there is someone down there. Scout1 is going to swing around to check out the silver area and then head east.

When is the next version of SMEG due out? hammer

The next version of SMEG mod will be based of 3.0.0.5 (and not SMEG 1.0.1.3), and I hope that it will include the following changes:
  • Changes to map trading, barbarians and scout/explorer units.
  • A new start settings based around missing the first 30 turns of the game, but starting with more development,
  • New PHI based around +beakers from each specialist, and a possible co-opting of great spies and great generals into an amalgamated system,
  • A version of the no score mod with altered demographics information,
  • New espionage system - but this is something that will be based of others ideas,
  • New air warfare system (although possibly not, depends if the kinks can be worked out of it),
  • Civ redesigns based around 2UB, 2UU and no start techs.

Deadline: depends how much longer I'm off sick for, really.

One thing I'm toying with is trying out a social policy tree a la Beyond Earth, instead of civics. Linked to the tech tree, not to culture or anything like that. I think that is something that is likely to be used once and never again though, and would likely have to be done by itself so is probably going to be for hte third installment of SMEG mod.

Still going to move the scout 3 next turn, the lion shouldn't be a huge problem.





A hut, a hut, on a tile that screws up scouting! Who'd have thought it. Still gonna pop it next turn, although I'd have prefered to pop it in 2 turns.
