I'm doing well!
I teach 7th grade SS at the moment, and it's my dream job. Our school is ranked #1 in the state by most metrics, we just won another blue ribbon, the pay is excellent, my commute is short, and my coworkers are all close friends. This is the job that lured me back from Korea, after all, and it was everything I wanted.
Except...
...well, when I was in Korea, I met a girl. She's from South Africa, teaching English in the country, like I was. We only had a few months together (I'd already taken the job when we met), and then I left her to return home here. But we kept talking every night via video call - at first just a few minutes a day, then gradually longer and longer. Now we talk twice a day, morning and evening (timezones), for over an hour each time. And we've made plans.
So, long story short, I'm leaving my dream job after the school year ends in June, going back to Korea until her contract ends in September. Then the two of us will go to South Africa, where we can explore the country together for about 6 months before either of us needs to think about work, at which point...we'll figure it out. Thus Chevalier is starting another round-the-world adventure, and I have absolutely no idea where I'll be at this time next year, a first in my life. But it'll be a great adventure with her, I'm parting on good terms with my school district (they asked me to return next year, and I told them why I had to go, and they were understanding), so I'm excited. We'll see what the future holds!
