[SPOILERS] Lewwyn frees slaves in Lincoln's Ethiopia

Didn't update today, turn was pretty routine. Everything's clicking along, got another cottage down, Cow pastured in the new city, orange settled next turn. Easy peasy.

Oh and Moogle got a few pop growths.

Allright 2 Turn update. Last turn was fairly uneventful. I found Moogle trying to make contact with Mackoti:

He will have to go up the arm towards the barb city to reach him now that I'm in the way. You can also see my nice new city Yellow Belly. I like that name. Of course, finances died a lot, but its okay.

This turn we got 2 new workers built. and they are out cottaging. I also have 3 more workers that will be built at the end of next turn. They will also be cottaging. Lets check on Moogle:

Here we see Moogle's sent his warrior NE as expected. Also we see that his most recent city is built NW of the iron. I have 2 settlers racing up that new road north. The first is with the spear. He will go to the North to the light blue. But which is better here? If I go to the north site its farther from home, but its coastal with the other ocean up there. Maybe that not a good thing? getting boated? too hard to defend? I'm leaning toward the white. With the yellow dots I can do either. The SW one is good but doesn't share the pigs. The north one is only available if I go with the north light blue site. Thoughts?

Also to address the tech. Well Next turn I'll turn 2 scis on in Gleaming. The turn after the workers will be done and I will turn 2 on in clubfoot and 1 in Clammy. I would do 2 in Clammy but its getting close to popping a GS. I'm building 2 cottages in Tanned Hide, 1 in Cloven foot, 4 in Clammy, 3 in clubfoot for now, 2 more in Racy. Economy looks grim right now, especially with new cities about to go down, but it will turn around fairly quickly.

A little behind in food now. Can't be helped. I looked at diplo screen. Mackoti has 11 food resources hooked up. I only have 8. Now I do have a deer, sheep, rice that are all improved and being worked. And I also have a banana, sheep, rice that are not hooked up yet. Still the difference in actual resources is there. Part of it is due to the way I plant my cities closer together. I am 3rd in land. The good thing is I have lots of room to expand into and my dot mapping leaves me a lot of room. Now I just need the cottages to grow to support further expansion.

Definitely looks grim, LOL. +2 at 100% gold. I like the white spot a lot better. There is going to be lots of border tension there, and the white is just as blocking as the blue, but a lot less vulnerable. I don't think the rice city needs access to the pigs.

Nice forested horses on Yellow there. We didn't see that before planting, did we?

You should probably finish the walls in Clubfoot. It's going to decay away, and it's likely to be useful sometime. Long way before gunpowder comes in, and even longer before pre-gunpowder units all disappear.

I'm pretty annoyed Moogle got that city down, but probably couldn't be helped. We'll still block him off, should be okay.

I'm still concerned about the balance sheet. We're going to be basically limping to Literature, then to Currency, then to Code of Laws...I don't think we can afford any more cities for quite a while. We might be okay after Currency I guess, get markets everywhere. Might not need to directly go to CoL.

Funny you should mention that... The 3 workers got built this turn and we went to -1 gold at 100% gold. I could found a city next turn, but I'm gonna hold off on that...

I think I may have been too caught up in trying to make PHI work that I forgot how hard civs can crash if they don't have a good enough cottage system. I was spoiled in 14 where I was FIN with a couple river cottages and still being able to tech just fine.

Basically next turn I set all cities to commerce tiles + scientists. I think I can pull out of the red and turn this all around in the next 10 turns, but its going to be dicey. I have a settler 1T from being built in Gleaming eye, but I'm going to switch the build to a barracks so that it doesn't build and I don't have to pay the unit cost.

Man civ can get you so fast. You concentrate on one thing and keep saying I'll get to that other thing in one more turn! On a positive note, next turn there will be 3 new cottages down and 3 done on the turn following. Each cottage will be worked and will grow in 6 turns.

Now my question becomes is the situation so dire that I need to beeline currency or can I stick to the plan and grab the Glib quickly then use the Glib to quickly tech to currency? I'm still leaning towards Glib first. The sooner I get it the sooner it pays for itself.

Good news:

Looking better already. Another 2-3 cottages down next turn. And that tech rate will go even further up once my other cities run some scientists too. Right now I've only got 4.

Glad I have a spear there and an axe 1 behind. Chariot could have been trouble.

Part of the economic crash is my fault for pushing you to settle towards the middle and not lesser maintenance positions in the back lines. lol

Going CoL after Currency should definitely be worth it if Confucianism is still available.

well like I said. Once the GE is built I can run 2 scis in 5 cities and blast the tech straight through to Lit then Currency and CoL. I can run the full scientists yet because they'll pop a GS before I get my GE. nono

Really the only thing that will make my economy better at this point is time. Right now I'm blasting food in Clammy, then I'll swap the tiles over to racy for growth after it pops again. When the sheep is cleared in Clubfoot I'll switch that city to growth and get a couple more pop there as well so I can work both cottages and scientists. Cloven Toe, Tanned Hide, same thing. Lots of careful MM these turns. Gotta squeeze out every gold I can while growing.

That said... Where's the save? Mackoti has had it for 30 hours...

If you are not settling that city, why don't you just move it to northern spot. For next settler, you can settle it quicker....

There are 2 settlers there. The first is under the spear and is moving to the northern spot. The other is ... waiting. I also have another settler 1T from built that I've switched off until I can afford it. Heh.

So yeah I'm going to settle the norther city first. I will be able to settle it in 2 turns. Maybe in 2 turns I'll have a bit more economic leeway.
