Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

[SPOILERS] Ceiliazul's First Dance: Louis of the Ottomen

t63 lazy report:

-Pegasus did indeed get Judaism
-Confu founded in biohazard (Perfect!)
-Cull killed the chariot with no losses at ~8% odds. Both axes moved up toward Cull's capital
-Ad Hoc also has an axe moving near the capital, having seen the benefits i'm reaping.

Goals:
-unlock HE
-prevent Ad Hoc from same
-figure out my future research!

Seven, you requested feedback on the map:

Expansion choices: 7/10
Resources: 9/10
Fun: 10/10

The known world (t63)

Balance: 9.5/10

Starting locations were well done. Everyone bordering everyone else was executed perfectly. Cull's early demise will not instantly boost anyone into a winning position, well done.

The only imperfection here is the metals. Those starting with metals are 1-2-3 in score. I see other tiles are tweaked to be stronger for the fur/ivory teams, but Gold powered my early research and other teams lacked that option.

Tactical Possibilities: 10/10

The tiny map ensured lots of dagger chances. The small lakes and tight borders will make war a nail-biting prospect when the time comes. While Naval tactics add a lot to MP Civ, I don't think we'll be missing any excitement as the game goes on.

Expansion Choices: 7/10

The one thing I might change: Expansion toward the Northwest was really the only option. Copper and Horse should have been further separated, in my opinion. This map is not *bad* by any means, but could have presented more diversity in expansion choices.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the Vets' game, but I suspect the 2nd/3rd cities all went toward West and North.

Resources: 9/10

Aforementioned metal balance aside, I love the resource distribution here. 3 copies of each lux for a 5 player game seems perfect. The placements of each disputed zone lux is inspired, and is already causing conflict.

Fun: 10/10

This game is super diplo-intensive, I would play AI-diplo if I had the choice again. I'm sure I've spent more time writing emails than I have moving units. That said, the map is a HOOT, and anyone who is bored by this map should stick to cup stacking.

Mechanics Question:

Catwalk, Ad Hoc and I have open border and city count parity. What will happen when the first of us finishes currency?

Will Catwalk hit currency and steal all trade routes from Ad and I? Will I be reduced to domestic routes?
Reply

Uh, no. Everyone's trade routes are independent of everyone else's, you can trade with each foreign city once and domestic cities unlimited times.

Heroic Epic Unlocked!

Cull slammed his 3 wandering warriors into my axe. My axe was nearly undamaged in the process, and received his 3rd promotion!

In the most wussified elite unit ever, he took the Medic promotion. The purpose is of this is to get the other axe healed up faster and back into the fight.

Cull has archery finally, so if he starts building archers the city may be unassailable. For now though, 2t healing and back into the fray!

Oh, and my score is doing that thing again...

No turn tonight, but a picture from my far North:

Dr. Inferno will actually be a decent city, but for now it's a massive drain. 13gpt at size ONE! My empire is making -11 gpt at the moment, but will finish 3 courthouses in the next 4 turns. Also, currency will finish before t70, helping immensely.

I got a great scientist! What to do with him??
-bulb alphabet? no.
-Settle in Biohazard? maybe.
-Academy in Diesector (my eventual NE city?) maybe

honestly not sure what to do with him. Long term plans have a great library in Biohazard, an Academy there would possibly be a better long-term gain...

Lurker input is welcome, especially from Commodore

Edit: The barracks build in Gamma was changed to a courhouse before EOT, completing almost half of it. Can't wait for those courts to come online!

Haha, it's hard to advocate for an academy when you're losing gold at 0%, isn't it? lol

Thank you for your (very generous) map comments, by the way. About the expansion directions, I'm not sure if I would have done anything different given the opportunity - I didn't want two players' second cities touching borders so the good first direction was intentionally a bit limited.

Well, here's the input. When you say settle, do you mean make an Academy in Biohazard? Weirdly enough, this is a rare case in general where settling as a super-specialist is a good idea. The Academy is worth only 50% of your beakers when you're making them...so running two scientists, 6bpt. If you tick up the slider, it's better...the question, then, is are you going to be running >0% enough to average out >6bpt...counting it before and after the GLib, comparing it to the fact that the beakers earlier will net you Literature earlier, and GLib earlier, and the Parthenon (thus, the next GSci) earlier.

It's all quite quantifiable.
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.

I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.

I'm pretty sure settle means settle, lol.

Thanks for volunteering to do the math! :neenernee

Settle (any city) means immediate 11.25 beaker benefit. Biohazard is most secure ad thus the obvious choice. 1 hammer is just decoration, but not to be ignored.

The academy wuld net 6bpt in any ciy running 2 SCI specialists. Putting an academy in Diesector would give that immediate benefit, plus give a big assist to that city in the culture battle over the southern deer. with both deer and the corn, this city can support FIVE specialists... making the academy worth 15bpt even at 0% science. Caste System will be an urgent priority, but is still likely 10+ turns away.

Summary:
Bulb Alphabet - 313 beakers one- time
Settle in BIO - 11.25 beakers forever
Academy in DIE - 6bpt now, 30bpt later (say 15t from now)

Commodore, you have a good point about the faster Literature... that's not to be ignored.
