Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

[pb72 spoilers]: the esteemed gentleman's literature and book club

Scouting continues in deep Rome:

So his capital is actually all the way down here. I'm kind of impressed by the size of his territory, given how far he was set back and his weak leader pick. But not that impressed by the city placements.

This'll be a lot of land to try and conquer. But if we can pull it off...

Popped another copper at Metamorphosis. This one is actually annoying, preventing me from windmilling the tile to keep it food neutral. I guess I could just keep the pigs on loan to this city forever. Creation has a decent food surplus with the loaned wheat and the lake.

The long term benefit of moving the palace to Atlas Shrugged and moving Republic 1E at the start is that I have just enough food with the lake to stagnate the city on all its land tiles, and found another city to the west to use the fish and the copper. There is more land to settle in the west, but Xist's cottaged stuff is juicer and I have cataphracts that want to be used.

Decision time. We have a few more turns of GA research to go through before finishing Guilds and doing the final civics swap. Do we want to sneak in CoL + Construction, or gun hard for Civil Service? That would mean giving up Vassalage, but the economic benefits would be solid.

Also, would it be worth swapping out of OR into paganism with the rest of the civic changes? We would be pushing hard on units post GA and it would save us a pretty penny on upkeep costs.

One more thing - Aetryn didn't return the gold countdown I sent. Not a great sign. Or is it common for people not to send those back?

It can mean literally anything. AI diplo often has a whole number of interpretations, did you just send a gold-for-gold, or was there a "declare on Bing" thing?
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.

I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.

It was gold for gold. I didn't realize you could throw in a "War with X" prompt.

Yeah, but it feels so wasteful...

I'd say Construction + Engineering if possible, it really helps in trickling reinforcements.

Dropping into paganism feels weird and wrong, but might be the right call, but we do want back into it in the next GA.

I am not sure if we have enough beakers to get all of engineering done, but we can definitely get some of the way along with grabbing construction. I'll also need to detail a pair of combat workers near the front to build some roads when the war starts.

Yes, combat workers are the best thing apart from combat settlers smile

Aetryn wants a bit more time before joining in a war. I think that's reasonable. It gives us more time to assemble a big Phract stack before moving in.

That would be t146. We'll see what we have put together around that time.
