Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

[Spoilers] Adrien and Mardoc relax and play civ

Gah! I'm only playing for the sake of the rest of the field. Having to do it twice just stings.

Quote:Yet, as those messages are amusing, recipients...if you find yourself having a war declared upon you, be a good fellow and not accept the unintended cease fire in the future. Instead, reply back with a cheeky response saying how your adversary will soon be swimming with the fish, or similar.

Xenu? How is this situation distinguished from 'oh, shit, he's got more army than I thought he did?' ceasefire offers? Reject and reoffer is completely unfair to expect, given this:

I was planning on asking you to hand me the baby (or part of it anyway) so I have absolutely no problem in taking the lead as soon as you start your new job.

Didn't you guys reject the offer to whip the city? That's haggling. When you haggle you're both changing the terms of the deal as well as risking that the other player changes their mind.

I demand a reload to the most recent turn!

ok, not really. But only because it would waste more time, not because I think this reload was justified, given the public facts

Also, um, I've got darn near no idea what I did this turn other than reject peace and advance my Shock axes. Did Jowy report what I did?

I am *this* close to blowing up the tech thread. The more I think about it...Xenu, it's impossible for this to work in practice.

You can't distinguish between an intended and an unintended ceasefire until you look around. You can't distinguish between an 'intended at the time' and 'actually now that I thought about it' like us and Jowy under any circumstances whatsoever. And if we're doing reloads for diplo mistakes - then I want a reload to T64, where I will accept Jowy's offer rather than reoffering it.

It wasn't even a mistake, really. It was a consequence of the limitations of the interface, just like Whosit's problem.

I will give myself an hour paying attention to other things before I post in the tech thread. Maybe I'm being unreasonable. But right now I'm on the edge of quitting due to this, given that the lurkers were happy with what happened to us on T64.

I want consistency. Either no reload now, or we reload to T64 when the diplo interface screwed me over and I ate the consequences.

I'm pretty sure what happened was that whosit declared on Dreylin and decided to send a neenerneener kind of message (or something), but the diplo message was automatically sent alongside an unwanted ceasefire offer. Dreylin accepted the ceasefire (prehaps pushing some of Whosit's units out of his culture) so it's not fair to Whosit really.

Yes, that's what it sounds like. The diplo interface didn't work the way it should, and Whosit got burned as a result.

I'm just arguing that he was damaged less by this than we were on T64. If the diplo interface let you suspend an offer to find out the underlying facts, we'd have gotten peace for just the two border cities. We'd have had axes and chariots by the time it expired, and probably wouldn't have lost anything more. We'd still be in this game.

If we ate that, he should have to eat this.

Please blow up in the tech thread. I don't think you know how to blow up Mardoc smile

Oh, I guess I'm not being reasonable. It's the same logic as hazing, really. No, Whosit shouldn't have to suffer just because we suffered first.

I didn't realize I was still that mad.

it's just a game, it's just a game

Edit: Hah! Guess you're going to be disappointed in me again, Krill. neenerneener

Editedit: Still, Xenu's rule suggestion and implication about Dreylin's behavior both are unreasonable.

Dreylin knew it was an unintended cease fire offer because it was accompanied by text as Adrien suggested ("Your head would look good on the end of a spear"). Then he accepted it anyway because it was advantageous for him to do so. I don't remember your situation, or know if I saw it, but I did see this one and it looked like someone got bitten by an obscure mechanic/bug/unanticipated interface situation and somebody else deliberately took advantage of it. Sure, we could have left it alone, and maybe that would have been better. But I polled for advice and this seemed the most fair solution from the responses. I'm sorry you disagree with it, but no one else offered to make a decision so I did. You guys didn't appoint an admin for this game, so here we are.

Krill, if you want to insist on inciting trouble you can administer the next situation. Go on, knock yourself out.

Mardoc, if you don't like the suggested rule that's fine. Maybe Grimace or Caledorn will process a reload if it is necessary next time, but I think now that everyone is aware of this "feature" that no one will deserve a reload if it happens again. And I'm not saying Dreylin's behavior was abhorrent or anything, he took what he thought was the best tactical move available and can't be blamed for that. It's just that he shouldn't have had the option since it resulted from a bug/weird interface implementation/whatever. I probably can't discuss more detail (or this much) without going over the line regarding spoilers but I hope this is enough to satisfy you that I was trying to be as fair as possible to everyone here.
