Gaspar has pretty good view where he is although he don't know it exactly yet. .
However couple of points I disagree in this post:

Wines are obvivously not as good as the classical age happiness resources. But Monarchy is so useful tech that you're often getting it before Calendar. Even if Hereditary rule makes it easier to manage Happiness you still save 1 extra city Garrison unit per city. He also has furs south from the capital that he obviovusly doesn't know about yet.
I also don't understand how he thinks having just 1 neighbor that blocks him is a bad thing. It is actually best that could happen to you in Pangaea games assuming you've at least some room for yourself and here he clearly does. Settle aggressively towards Sandover and you've just 1 flank that needs protection or be aggressive whereas Sandover needs to handle both him and threat from the north and east.

But if it were a terra map, a bog standard terra map, would they discover the difference in the same amount of time? Or would it take longer? If it takes just as long then there isn't any real difference, and I don't think the criticism holds that the map is predictable.
PBEM14, t20.
Faster than expected, but then scooter always did like trying to figure out the map...

Yeah way sooner than I thought it would happen. Scooter was really doing a great effort there. Of course also early map trade with Serdoa helped.

Yikes, I knew this was an explosive collection of personalities, but I still didn't expect things to be blowing up quite this far this fast!
I'm pretty impressed with Gaspar's read on the situation, given how little info he has. In particular, his read on Lewwyn seems spot on - Lewwyn's already plotting his first war, and aligning himself with Scooter, just as Gaspar predicts without having met in game.
I'm somewhat less impressed with his play, but he seems to be aware of that and hopefully will change things up a bit.
And, I'm looking forward to seeing Gaspar's reaction to finding Australia . He could honestly use that alone to stay in the game, if everyone else is fighting in the Middle East especially.

Holy crap Roland is the most insufferable & condescending dedicated lurker ever. Gaspar seems to like it, though. He probably likes dressing like a gimp too.

I don't really get why people spend hours polishing their messages like that. As one of their opponents, I'd be more interested in what they have to say than exactly how they say it. All the polishing really achieves is to send the message that "yes, we always weigh our words carefully so you should be wondering what our true feelings are".
Maybe the intent is to string everybody along, keeping them friendly, but I don't think you gain any true allies by making statements such as "we are still considering to entertain the possibility of potentially working towards unspecified common goals sometime in the indeterminate future - until then, we look forward to our next pointless exchange of vague pleasantries".

They're playing WW civ (with grudges). It's weird to watch.

Good game and the map is big enough that the new continent isn't a must IMO. Me likey.
