So what's the reasoning behind having people settle on copper? It helps people against chokes but if anyone techs BW first while the neighbor without mining goes for, say, fishing or agriculture, that could end really poorly, right?

*shrug* you start 10 tiles from 2 neighbours. If you decide to not explore and don't find this out - it is your mistake. If you do explore, and then decide to ignore military tech, that is again, you choice, and your loss if you fuck it up.

Settling on copper was a measure to stop warrior chokes breaking the game.

Negligent play by Dazed, settling in a contested zone with no defenders ready.

Sounds like a mistake by TT to sign a 75-turn NAP with Serdoa. That's way too long. Serdoa is Joao of India and could be able to squeeze him in pretty badly with rapid expansion.

Dazed can also raze Serdoas front city as well without Serdoa being able to defend it. If Serdoa sends the axe forward, that is.

Don't agree with with Dazed's rejection of this offer.

Personally, I would accept it so quickly I'd probably bite Serdoa's arm off.
Include terms to ensure delivery of the settler (and maybe galley) asap and it seems utterly reasonable to me, in fact Serdoa's being too nice.

So you can't settle North, so what?
There's still the South, and since it's cylindrical world wrap on a tilted axis, expand South enough and guess where you end up? tongue

I think it all depends on people's character. If I would have received that peace offer, as reply, Serdoa would have gotten a big angry FY and the middle finger to top it off...

And now Serdoa has even made the offer better by removing the "no settling North" clause.

Seriously Dazed, nail him down to building you a settler asap from his capital, you build a settler also during the enforced peace, you'll be at 3 cities in no time.
Yes they won't be port cities, (I think scooter has the one South of him by agreement?) but at least you can cause some carnage then...

Krill - can you confirm that the person who explores North to South gets the circumnavigation bonus?
If so, that's another neat feature of this map, early land exploration paying off with a serious later game reward.
