Quote:Sooooo,
Thanks for the use of your deer. I have now secured other health resources and I find that your Deer is superfluous. I have canceled the deal. I hope that you made use of the Dye.
Cheers,
Ruff

I can't say I get many emails that contain the phrase "I find that
your Deer is superfluous"
No 'Hi Ruff' or 'Cheers, Sooooo' but the flavour of Sooooo's emails have certainly improved .

A second round today. I lost EP view into mh's tech so I put my EPs back on him. He ran 25EPs against me and the turn I lose tech visibility, he swaps from Constitution to Steam Power ... hmmmm.
Quote:Mostly Harmless,
Very long time, no talk / write. I see that you have swapped your research from Constitution to Steam Power. I have the latter tech but don't have the former tech - would you be willing to trade Constitution (1768b) to both myself and Dreylin in return for Steam Power (2830b)?
Regards,
Ruff

email back from mh. Not sure if I totally believe him. Sounds a little bit suspect with me losing tech visibility and him swapping. But I will take it at face value for now.
Quote:What???
Argh. That was a misclick!
Thank god, I am not in full research mode.
I will go back to Constitution next turn.
As for trading:
The idea was to use Constitution to get techs from everyone around as it seems, it is not high on other's lists but still useful.
At the moment I cannot give an ETA as Dreylin's cancellation of our NAP last turn and him closing borders this turn has me worried.

Oh - here is an idea ...
Tech: Divine Right (1061b)
Wonder: Spiral Minaret (368h)
Cost
I am pretty sure that I can knock off DR in 1 turn of tech with overflow. Even if I had to start from scratch, it would only be a 2 turn tech. However, those 2 turns would cost me ...
running 100% - 160g
running 0% - 145g
... 610g. Now, the wonder itself would cost me 106 raw hammers in FF (+250% at the moment). If I converted those 106 raw hammers into gold, I would get 106 x (1 + 125%) or 239g.
So - the total cost of SM would be 848g.
Benefit
I have 14 Conf buildings, 2 of which are +100% gold. That is 12 x 2 + 2 x 4 = 32g per turn. This would break even over 27 turns.
So - is that worth it?

It is worth it if you aren't going to attack soooo or anticipate being attacked anytime soon.
Otherwise those resources could go into troops.

27 turns is too long a payback, IMO: you don't get the payoff until about 30-32 turns from now because that's 27t from building Spiral. An extra 100-150g 35 turns from now isn't that big of a deal, compared to the lost assets at the moment; discount rates and opportunity costs matter. I'd push to get Infantry in 1-2 turns sooner, or Artillery, or factories.
Pushing for an actual tech advantage, and spending those hammers on troops, sounds much stronger, unless you really think this game won't be decided 50 turns from now.

OTOH...teching now also gives those advantages to other players, whereas SM gives the benefit solely to Ruff...

So, continuing Krill's line of thought: When are you going to turn on Dreylin? Do you have planned a joint war on soooo where you will keep all the cities? Otherwise, what will Dreylin's forces do once they've plowed through athlete's and mh's cities?

Given his general change of tone Ruff, have you considered the possibility of some backdoor diplomacy with Sooooo?
