[SPOILER] PB37: Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who's the most aggressive of them all?

(September 18th, 2017, 19:44)Krill Wrote: Question: if I run every pop in a 10 pop city as a spec, and the city starved eot, would I get 27 or 30gpp?

This is a really good thread.  Of course it doesn't answer your question, but the author *did* say he'd get to it in a followup post, eventually.

Actually reading the thread that spawned that article, based on how it looks like end-of-turn processing takes place you lose the pop after its worked the tile, or in this case generated the gpp. So I'll say 30.

Turns out that you get 30. Social starved one pop and pushed the GS out a turn sooner a number Philo and Astro. Turns out the GS bulb have 2040ish and that the double bulb wasted about 50 beakers total, so pretty fucking close.

Also, Taoism landed in R101 for a lark.

Reason I can't play this turn: I may need to declare on Couer and offer him peace, and I can't do that as a double move.

Bad reason I know, but how the next 2 turns plays out, and if I revolt to slavery this turn has a huge impact on this game and my economy and abilities over the rest of hte game, so it needs to be played by the book.

Could have one turned Civil Service but instead decided to save gold.

Revolted.to slavery and Theo, ultimately can't justify any move that doesn't give me bunch of units. Ran down food bars to get as much gpp as possible but next GA will not be soon. OTOH, I don't need it for civics and I'm whipping reasonably hard so meh.

I need construction for colosseum's for cities that already have barracks, but beyond that HBR and Guilds can wait. CS T147, construction T148 and then out GA and see how Couer reacts. Aiming for 8XP maces as general purpose and anti mounted units, C3/flanking can beat knights. I can build 4 promo units from AF from T150, and just need to whip galleons to isolate Courts army if he lands it anywhere.

Gav offered OB, he either attacks me in a few turns after checking out R101 or it's a.sign of friendship and he is going to go finish murdering JR4 with galleons himself. I hope.its the latter.

Everyone with astro has such a large strategic advantage over everyone else, it's stupid to fight amongst ourselves. Except for Gav fighting a land war against me, if he can pull that off he should do.

Not doing a full update, not really feeling it TBH.

If couer wants Mandrake he can take it, he has too many units. Even if he sacrifices 3 cats (and they are all CR2), I don't quite see how he takes the city with fewer than 7 losses. Even after collateral the axes should have odds on defense on any unit Couer has, and the longbows in the city will annihilate everything thrown at them until they reach about 60hp, and it takes luck or units to lower them that far.

I only see 4 galleons, none promoted combat. Next turn I'll have 5, all double promo the turn, turn after that I'll have over 12 in theater. Is Mandrake an acceptable loss? Well, I'd rather not lose it, and I am one turning CS this turn then turning off tech for a bit except for Construction and coliseums, but CR3 maces will be enough to take cities back defending by swords and NC...the navy is there to stop Couer reinforcing the island cities, as my plan is to take all islands from him and leave him to defend coastal cities. Plus Mandrake has acted as a lightening rod so I suppose the final decision on it needs to be made next turn and on my ability to take the war to Couer.

Looking through the demos the s game seems to be yet another lesson in not fighting wars for no gain: Gav is about to hit someone with knights, and given that everyone is in a similar tech position except dtay that means Joey is about to hit someone. Probably DZ.

The tldr is that DZ dies. If Gav hits me, given he has Astro and Joey doesn't, then Couer gets nothing except maybe 2 coastal cities, Gav gets the shrine and Paya and there is a potential fight over the SoZ. I would think this is the obvious play except dtay gets a free pass and uses collosus for a further 15 turns, grabs lib, economics and tries to get to frigates and maybe lib steel before anyone notices. So on one level it makes sense for Gav to keep my border secure and use his current astro advantage and dtays stretched lines to hit him on two flanks and take all his islands. That would give him cities and pop to then run a heavy draft.

Meanwhile Couer still gets nothing because he has to run to frigates to own the seas. And his economy has imploded, due to running around with units and not doing anything with them. I can't get much out of a war with Couer so I'm just enjoying the brawl in the knowledge you can't win if newbs keep on throwing shit at you whilst your opponents can just build in peace.

So...yeah, chalk this one up to Zulu still being Uber and dtay is a good player, and newbies acting irrationally.

Ps Mandrake fell for fewer losses than expected, but looking at the damage on the axes it's actually quite likely that he got lucky on the rolls against the longbows, doing more damage to them with the cats, and the cats were promoted to B3 I think, which was enough to just about get 70% odds.

Now though he can't move forward without leaving boats exposed, unless he repositions and shoves a good number of units into Mandrake.

Jesus Couer I want to know what is going through your head with this.

You log in, obviously see my galleons and dump units back into cities and offer white peace?

Are you fucking mad? This is the second time you've tried to attack me, why would I accept peace when I should expect you coming around again in 10 turns? Plus Joey declared on DS, you fucked my build up for that war and now I can't really get anything, so just why should I accept peace with you?

God I want to know what he is thinking because all he has done this game is antagonize me. I can't figure out what I've done to annoy him except maybe settle Mandrake? And every other city I've settled is directly off my coast or taken from Yuris. So if Mandrake is the reason, Couer has basically spent the past 50 turns trying to take a single island city with 4 land tiles and 3 food. It's mad.

On a toroidal map no one gets all the land that is closer to them. It just never happens. Shit like this is what takes someone from a good position, like he had with quick currency to irrelevance.

So now Joey gets a free pass and Couer will find himself unable to capitalize with his galleons because of a foolish decision. Joey benefits from the misplay, able to molest DZ without fear of reprisal.

Looks like there is a new runaway.

Killed three units in Sweet Water, that shitty two tile island north of Bracken.

CG1 LB, and two C2/Shock NC against CR3 swords off the boat.

77% and two 88% victories.

I remain convinced that the problem this game is not Boudicca, but the combination of the stupid start balance, and two newbies fighting dumb wars in stupid ways. I still think that so long as Boudicca can build the economy up she will steamroll everyone. Unfortunately, I never quite got that chance.

I wonder if there is a way top convince Couer to just move out of Mandrake? Would a retreat signify that he understands that war between us is stupid? How could he communicate that he made a mistake and that he has changed his ways?
