[NO PLAYERS] Lurker Thread for lurkers lurking loudly

I've been refining the water resources a bit for the last little while. I've read the list that you made about luxuries, Catwalk. I'm not sure how much more work I want to do on this map, to be honest. I think there's enough land on this map that if they have to settle a few junk cities to grab resources it will be OK.

The luxuries would take very little time to fix, such as unjungling a few of them. I think all players should have one convenient early luxury available. Most do, some do not. If you want to give some players disadvantages interesting challenges, make sure they're balanced with other factors.
Reply

I've looked it over, don't see much to suggest.

- Four whales on the whole map seems a little light, maybe sprinkle in a couple more of those? Same with four incense. Although on second thought, looking at your novice-tool outputs, everyone does have both ~5 luxuries and a couple for trade, so maybe that's not an issue.

- I would remove the jungles from next to at least one of the Aztec coppers, just to ensure they can have metal before Iron Working even if unlucky.

But strategics looks good, and land forms are interesting, and generally I think this is an excellent map.

I'll take another look at it tomorrow and consider the whales, copper, and Catwalk's last round of suggestions. Yeah, I intend the players to trade resources around if they want more, they all have plenty of duplicates for that purpose. Thanks to everyone for taking time to review the map. thumbsup

For posterity's sake.

There were three ties to be broken, all in the first round. I took higher in the list as winner of the tiebreak, so Thoth, Gaspar, and Pindicator won. After that it was strictly deterministic, given their lists. Oxy got his fifth pick, everyone else got 1st or 2nd.

random.org Wrote:There were 6 items in your list. Here they are in random order:

Thoth 1) Hatty of Zulu
TBS 1. Joao(Exp/Imp) of Zulu
Gaspar 1. Zara of Ottomans
Pindicator 1. Washington of Carthage
Dtay Zara of Holy Roman Empire
Oxy 1) Washington of Mongolia

Thanks for resolving, Mardoc.

Map changes:

I fixed a river drawing error in one of TBS's northern islands.

I removed an extra silver from one of Oxy's islands -- this would have given him one more happy resource type than anyone else had.

Mardoc: I added a whales resource to the four civs that were missing them. Go forth and build navy, y'all.

Catwalk: Gaspar's gold is close enough to prioritize settling it if he values more happy early on.

I Moved Dtay's ivory one tile north so he'll have to settle a second city to grab it. He'll have to settle an additional city in the south to get furs.

I played out TBS's start a bit a few nights ago, the early silver was a big early boost that other players don't have available as early so I moved it further away. I swapped the silver tundra hill with a fur forested tundra tile (moved the silver tile to where the fur was previously a bit to the east). He'll still be able to grab the silver in probably his 3rd to 5th city.

I moved jungle from tiles adjacent to pindicator's copper/horse and ivory, put it elsewhere on different grass tiles. So he'll have the ivory available as an early happy and won't have jungle on his closest horse/copper.

I moved a jungle tile from Oxy's nearest ivory/horse tiles.

Commodore has two silvers in second ring cities around the capital. He can trade for another resource if he wants a early second resource.

I think this is close enough for my tastes. The land based fairness assessment didn't change, nor did the land tile counts. I just move jungles around and the one resource in TBS's lands. The water count changed a bit with the silver removal from Oxy's land and the addition of a few whales resources:

You can make a map for an RB mod game. You just have to make sure people have a decent amount of space and strat resources and the map generator will probably do OK. Hell PB5 only had 1 tile changed, and that was a plains cow to a grass cow.
