Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

[SPOILERS]Acrid Pinot and other Pindicator anagrams

(October 21st, 2012, 23:37)NobleHelium Wrote: Well all right then. We should just start calling everyone "Right Honorable" instead.

I would not mind being called that. (Also, in case you don't see the edit, my previous post now has a reference showing why you are correct in regards to former congressmen. The author says the use of "Governor" for Romney is incorrect, as well.)

Also, sorry for derailing your thread, Pindicator!
Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.

1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.

2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.

3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.

4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.

I rather enjoyed the back and forth Merovech, no worries smile

Noble is ded-lurking me this game, at least until I do something so foolish that he decides to wash his hands of me. We're discussing what to do with this start right now.

While I think Zulu may be a decent choice here Comm, I've already taken them for a spin in 23. Going to try to get some fresh blood.

All these riverside grassland tiles it's hard to imagine FIN as anything but a clear winner. And EXP doesn't quite seem as hot for this start -- you only save 1 turn off the first worker with settle-in-place. Ideas being floated are FIN/CHM of Native Americans, SPI/IND of the Dutch, and lately FIN/IMP of Sumeria.

Plenty of time to look over things and sim out starts. I don't expect us to be running until at least the end of the week.

That's a neat idea - i was considering 2-word combinations like the thread title but i'm not sure how many there are. I'm also wondering if this will mean all my cities are doomed to be razed or if that is just with naming them Pindicator

You broke the trend in 34s, honestly, given you had 4-5 unburned by the end there.
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.

I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.

There are 27 two-word anagrams of pindicator. They look very similar to each other and would be confusing to refer to though, I think my list is much better.

Fair enough. Maybe we can throw in some anagrams of NobleHelium or anybody else that wants to join in?

I dunno if I can do two straight games of naming every city after myself... My ego isn't quite big enough wink

Victoria (FIN/IMP) of Sumeria still looks like a winner with the new rules. Noble is pushing me hard to go for this.
There's also no happiness visible at the start, so maybe FIN/CHA instead?

Still, going to brainstorm other combinations, both to have a back-up plan and also in case I find something else I like.

I think an Agricultural Leader is a must with this start, unless we really want to play to a certain civ's UU/UB.

FIN leader with fishing will get 14c more while building the worker, but that's not enough to make up for the 20b difference in Fishing & The Wheel. So Fishing doesn't make sense

Hey, we could do PHI/ORG of HRE!
