Well then, we have 1 US, GMT and AUS player. Not exactly ideal for co-ordination. banghead

dave is technically the ded lurker, but your Ireland visit presumably isn't permanent, so I have no idea what we should put as our timezone.

What about something like 19:00 or 20:00 to 2:00 GMT? It's a wider window obviously, but it's still only a quarter of the day so not unreasonable to ask for I wouldn't think. That would work for me both in the early turns (when we probably don't need to be playing at the exact same time to coordinate anyhow) and then when I'm back in the states could play more in the midnight-2am GMT range.

In terms of leaders, I'd probably rate IND over SPI. Even something as basic as having the ability to chop out stonehenge for both of the civs is powerful. PHI on the support candidate is also appealing, although not so important I think as getting IND. Of course it is entirely possible that if we are late in the snake pick someone else already picks up IND and it becomes a lot less valuable.

Alright I'll go with the 19:00 - 2:00 timezone, although I don't think it'll matter much since someone will probably be online.

+1

I think that our place in the snake pick will determine what FIN leader we get. Of course, that's the nature of the snake pick anyway, but maybe someone will surprise us (and besides, depending on where we are in the pick we might want to try something different too).

Regardless of whether IND is viable by the time we get to make our leader pick, what wonders would you guys like to target here?

Stonehenge would obviously be very nice, but I feel like we would face some stiff competition for it.

Brian, Ceil and Superjm, feel free to chime in smile

Traveling? Or taking a semester abroad there? Either way sounds really cool. smile

I should be back to being able to play turns at some point during the next month. I had my Macbook stolen a couple weeks ago and my hard-drive wiped; I'm still trying to get everything back up and running. I'm having trouble with my Parallels Windows dekstop because I have an older version of the program and they're not allowing me to reinstall it unless I buy the current version.

Anyway, I should be able to help cover turns with the large time gap between you two. I'm near my computer most of the day, and can usually find time between classes and work to login and play if needed. I'll just need someone to help me micro early on smile As PBEM38 proved, my early game skills are.....not the best lol

So, the pick order is thus:

LAM -> 4H -> RMoG -> SMack -> Smack -> RMoG -> 4H -> LAM -> LAM -> 4H -> RMoG -> SMack -> Smack -> RMoG -> 4H -> LAM

I think we may have gotten the worst position in the picking order cry

It seems likely Mansa and Huyana will be off the table by the time it gets around to us (though, you never know).

Does Pyramids affect all team leaders? Cause then you can try something silly like an IND leader chopping the Pyramids and having Gandhi take advantage of it. lol

Considering how much more powerful certain key wonders are in a team game I think finding a good IND leader is definitely a must if we think we can compete for wonders.

Study abroad for a semester. And yeah, our picking position is not at all ideal. Unfortunate that the strongest team got the best pick position though.

It would be pretty fun, but I'm a little gun shy to commit to getting the Pyramids for 2 reasons.

1. I went all out for the Pyramids in PBEM38, and it went very poorly (More a reflection on my player skill than their strength as a wonder though).
2. Team 'Mids is in this game....I feel like we'll face some still competition for it.

On an unrelated note, how about this for our naming theme: Movie Sequels!

Since this is Real Men of Genius: The Sequel, We should name our cities after famous (or infamous) sequels, and the units after characters from them.

Examples:

Aliens (Ripley, Bishop, etc.)
Terminator 2: Judgement Day (Sarah Connor, T-1000, etc.)
Empire Strikes Back (Yoda, Luke, etc.)
The Dark Knight (Gordon, Batman)
X2
The Bourne Supremacy
Die Hard 2
etc.

Thoughts?

So, first off, I think both of these are a pretty clear case of SIP.

We should put our FIN civ on start #2, the other on Start #1. Start #1 has some wicked food potential. A SPI or PHI running specialists could do some amazing things here mischief

Fishing has gotten upgraded as a starting tech, though I don't think we want to go WB first smoke Definitely need Agriculture, having hunting as well would mean double pre-req bonus to knock out animal husbandry and hook up the cows and sheep.

Do we want to make a play for Stonehenge> It's high risk, high reward. Then again, maybe it's so risky nobody else will consider it smile If we do want to make a play for it, we definitely need IND and a Mysticism Civ.

Yeah, it looks that way. frown

Incidentally, assuming Huayna and Mansa get picked before us, do we want to consider picking our supporting leader first? Reason is there are still 3 decent FIN leaders left, and ensuring we get Suleiman or Joao would be quite nice (EXP isn't great for a teammate since cheap granaries can't be given to teammate, but Joao is a crazy good REXer anyway, just gotta be careful about the difficulty). The risk is if Smack pick both Darius and Elizabeth, we get left with Victoria (double IMP, not exactly ideal) and crap for FIN leaders. However it seems unlikely they'd do that since neither has any expansion bonuses, so maybe? (if we take Suleiman though, the only really good option left is Darius which is probably too risky for us)

Stonehenge is the first wonder to get boosted by teams, and since I highly doubt CRE will be picked here I think there'll be too much competition for it.

You've pretty much summed up my opinion on the Mids here:

To consider Mids, we need either stone or IND at least.

HG and Oracle could be useful though. Depending on how many coastal/island cities there are GLighthouse could also be good, even though trade routes are only domestic. Can't remember if there are any other good early wonders out there.

Maybe. I already had an idea for a naming scheme (Master of Orion 2, a old yet good game I've recently starting playing again), but we have 2 civs we need to name anyway.

I see you ninja'd me posting the starting shots in here. rant

Agree with SIP. Fishing is indeed looking to be important to start with, as is Agriculture. I still think we should still try and start with Mining though, the 4th tech we'll have to decide when we choose our 2nd civ.
