[SPOILERS] Scooticator and Pindooter give a sporting try

Oh, lovely. If I'm understanding Civstats and the forum correctly, the following sequence of events happened:

* Plako and Serdoa started next to each other. This is nice - at least someone good is there to keep Plako in check.
* Serdoa quits. Uh.
* Serdoa is replaced by unknown player, suspected green player
* Said green player starts thread in CivGeneral called "how do i mp"… That's the exact title.
* Plako logs in, razes city from said green player.
* WE REALLY ARE PLAYING PB8 AGAIN AHAH HA HA AH *dies*

Time to push for a concession? bang

Did I attribute something to malice? Definitely did not do that on purpose.

I'm just noting that Plako is once again now sitting next to a super green player to romp over while the rest of us PB8 vets fight actual players (the same players we all fought in pb8). Unbelievable deja vu right now. At least we are currently in a position to seriously fight for 2nd rather than a game-long logic-defying fight for survival. lol

Hey, I'm a lurker.

Either of those are good by me tongue

(And no you didn't, it came off more as pissed off. Which is understandable)

Ok yeah that works. I'm really not even pissed, it's kinda funny to me. And this game is pretty fun so far. And I'm not upset at dhalphir of course - he/she is getting a rough intro to MP by apparently starting next to the best player in this game. And dhalphir even opened multiple threads it seems for the purpose of learning, so that's nice to see. But the PB8 parallels are almost hilarious at this point.

The real question is when do we gift horses to Azza, or do we want to shake things up and give them to Lewwyn this time?? twirl

For the turn, I would love to do the galley play because it fits with the Viking theme and I'm a huge sucker for theme. But I just don't think the map is going to let us do it right now. We need a unit up north so our workers can chop trees without harassment and our improvements don't get pillaged, and we need a unit down south by t70 so our gems city can come online. Our next units are due to complete t70. As much as I like pushing galleys for circumnav (also for contacting civs) the facts on the ground don't support it. Galley needs to wait until after the settler now.

It wasnt so much the being next to plako that doomed us, it was the being next to plako with no strategic resources.
Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.

1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.

2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.

3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.

4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.

Turn 067

Well, all this debate and in the end we may not even have a choice

Another barb warrior! This is rough - now the axe has to be built in the capital and that axe has to defend the workers in the south. But that's okay - this axe can actually transition to the gems city and be in the area on t70. So that could work out. Then Roberto Alomar moves to the grass spice to cover the workers up north from those two barbs. Everything is still covered.

Or not... banghead

Scooter, you mentioned something about building the Great Wall?
