Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

Yes...but I think sooooo did the same by just moving his cav/siege out of harm's way. He was wise not to attack onto the hill tile but I think he needed to evacuate the city and wait for Ruff to hit that flatland tile 2 NE of what used to be Corinth. By then I think he could have gotten enough troops in position to really let Ruff's stack have it, which is a fair price to pay for two cities. Or I am wrong? He got rid of what, seven Canon? Odds were probably in his favor to get rid of a few more as it looked like Ruff got some withdraw luck. Maybe leaving the Rifles was a good decision? I still don't think I would have done it but I'd love to hear what some of our MP veterans thinkg...

Man I learned one lesson though; Corinth really needed to be founded one tile to the south. I can't recall if there was some diplomatic hand tying over the location, but you really need your border city to have flat tiles on the approach. Actually two lessons; Machine Guns don't suck nearly as much as I thought smile.

Yeah, I don't think I've ever built machine guns in SP. But then again, I rarely play far beyond the renaissance, I've always found the opening play most interesting. I'm currently trying to win a OCC on monarch by space race, and I'm blundering around wondering what modern age techs to research and what they do...

darreljs Wrote:I was thinking they would strafe units. The approach to Sparta is just a nasty killing field. While he can't flank your Artillery until Gunships, he can still get a lot of collatoral damage from Cannon and then mop up with Infantry. Being able to pound his units while they are in Sparta will make this tactic if not ineffective, at least less effective. I don't know the numbers but Bombers seem to deal a lot more damage than Fighters.

I didn't realize you could base air units in Forts. That seems like something neat to abuse. Put a half dozen forts on the border and rebase planes there after declaring war.

In a nutshell, and going back to beta testing...

The reason why forts were turned into cities for the sake of military (inc CR promos working against them, naval units etc) was because it increased the tactical uses of forts, which most people said were absolutely useless. Right now though, they do allow quite a few interesting tactical uses, but without the cultural benefits that planting a city would do. There are cost benefit analysis to be taken into account.

When it came to planes though, one person demanded that cities only be able to hold a specific amount of planes (and made no distinction to what type), so that when the change was made, it forced bombers to become obselete: all anyone did was keep fighters in a city on intercept, which completely broke air warfare (which is ironic considering it was meant to be a fix stopping the mass production of bombers). Recon could be done with airships.

The solution that I gave was to allow forts to base limited numbers of aircraft as well. Originally the idea was that it would force a defender to split his defences to the extent where an attack is more likely to work simply because he has to defend too many tiles if he goes air heavy, and he still needs to place forts far forward to get good intercept chances or to be able to bomb enemy cities.

This obviously doesn't work when there is a great big mountain chain stopping anyone from attacking the forts, which is where the game becomes broken again. So long as every tile has a unit on it, sooooo can't drop a paratropper stack over there and take out the planes.

Interesting...I'd like to see Ruff put 'em to good use.

Hmm, so MH seems to lose his motivation. I wonder if it would be ok to suggest he goes for nukes... What do the lurkers think, would this be too much to suggest?

He'll never reach there before Dreylin does...

Maybe, but Dreylin doesn't seem to go for Fission, and mh/soooo could get it, which would probably stalemate the war. Anyway, my question was if it's too much to ask MH about this...

And he could still have fun firing them, right? Can't they shoot anywhere? So he could hit all of the other caps for example. Cause some global warming...

Tac nukes can't be shot down IIRC, and will basically make any attack by Dreylin a complete bloodbath. But they only have a range of, what, 4 tiles? ICBM need Satelites...no chancemh gets to that in time.

Hell, if mh managed to get 4 nukes before Dreylin did he could probably wipe out half of Dreylins' empire.

Well, fission is not that far away, and he could even rush-buy tactical nukes although he just converted to police state.

Since nobody protested I assume it's safe to suggest this to MH then smile
