[PB27-SPOILERS] Yup, it's HAK here...no idea what I might do this time...

Do you really think it would be fair for us to specifically place people on the map after they had picked their civs? How could we make considerations by color without also considering combo/player quality? So, the process was this: first the map was made and balanced, then starts were randomly assigned, then random combos were handed out, then your sims were given out, and finally the game was started.

And yes, we couldn't force people to change their color without saying, for example, BY THE WAY, YOU'RE STARTING NEXT TO PERSIA. There's only so many colors to go around.... it's just something to deal with in a big game.

Um, Joey? That's what HAK just said.

Yep, exactly. I realized this morning that there is no way to try to set it up so this doesn't happen. Last night my brain didn't compute that aspect. smile
So I'll just have to find a way to conquer Tsargon to get rid of his color. popcorn

We could randomize all civ colors but that would get pretty confusing with this many civs in play.

Played: Pitboss 18 - Kublai Khan of Germany Somalia | Pitboss 11 - De Gaulle of Byzantium | Pitboss 8 - Churchill of Portugal | PB7 - Mao of Native America | PBEM29 Greens - Mao of Babylon

Sorry, I think I read it wrong.

So just got Open Borders with Grimace, so for at least a few turns while he's still alive I'm getting an extra 2gpt from trade routes. I'm sure he'll lose his next city this turn or next, so then it'll drop down to 1gpt until he's finally eliminated. I also have OB with Tsargon, but no trade routes yet. frown I'm hopeful he's getting ready to settle a city on that southern coast as that would give us trade routes...and also solidly put him between me and Gavagai. Heh.
EDIT: And as I figured...there goes one of my trade routes. Gavagai just took another city. So already down to just the 1gpt extra from trade routes. Oh well. LOL

Could a lurker maybe help me understand again how to get the maximum benefit from overflow on stuff? Basically how is it calculated again?
And specifically with regards to a Barracks where I get 100% bonus hammers while building it. I'm trying to figure out how to get the most hammers of overflow with regards to letting a chop go into it and/or whipping it. So basically how many hammers have to go into it EOT in order to get whatever the maximum possible overflow could be? I'm trying to get as much overflow as I can to go into Moai on the following turn, but keep getting confused by where it gets the numbers when I try different things in my sims.

As I understand it:

If you put 120 hammers into a 60 hammer barracks then you'll get 60 overflow. Any more than that and you'll still get 60 overflow. UNLESS your city makes more than 60 hammers, in which case that becomes the limit on how much overflow you get.

Then you divide out any multipliers - so a forge + AGG means your multiplier is 2.25, so the 60 / 2.25 = 26 hammers overflow. Whereas if you weren't AGG (or you build something else worth 60 hammers) its 60 / 1.25 = 48 hammers.

I have a feeling that there are more advanced secrets to be learned - TBS certainly got more overflow than I thought possible building the Eiffel Tower in PB18...

So for an Agg barracks into Moai, you really can't do better than: get it to almost done, 1-pop whip. If you combine a chop and a whip, you'll probably hit the cap and lose some hammers.

If you want more overflow, you've got to use something that costs more so your cap is higher. Or just repeat the process with an axe or something.

Chops are probably better to go directly into the Moai instead of barracks and then overflow. You don't gain anything by the production multiplier and divider but you might lose something to rounding or the cap.

Ok, I think I got it figured out now. If I put 1 turn into the Barracks (which puts it at 2 hammers), I can do a Whip (which will give 60 hammers) and a Chop (which will give 60 hammers). That would create the 60 hammers of beyond the 60 needed to build it (plus the 4 extra that get wasted), such that on the following turn I get the maximum of 30 hammers of overflow.
I had considered the option of building the Barracks to near completion and then doing either a whip or chop, but doing it this way gets me the Barracks in 2 turns to get me the culture pumping sooner so that the borders would pop to give me access to the Fish. After the Barracks I would likely build the Lighthouse to a point that I could get some decent overflow from a whip, and then could do an Axe or something. Or just finish slow building the Moai at that point.

I can accept 4 wasted hammers (really only 2 before the AGG bonus) for the ability to get the Barracks out sooner.
