PBEM25 Mapmaking and Lurking

-randomly mashes buttons-

How d'you make this thing work

I don't remember how to make maps
Map settings: Seven Seas, Small, 2 CS per player
[I will also set world age to new and sea level to low, giving lots of hills for production and I find more interesting land masses with low sea levels.]

here are our five slates of three leaders:

Slate One:
Yuris Wrote:Latoro
Victoria
Theodora

Slate Two:
greenline Wrote:Genghis Khan
Abraham Lincoln
Cleopatra

Slate Three:
Woden Wrote:Nader Shah
Pericles
Seondeok

Slate Four:
pindicator Wrote:Suleiman
Gandhi
Pachacuti

Slate Five:
the Archduke Wrote:Mvemba a Nzinga
Gilgamesh
Eleanor

Randomly assigning each slate to a player gets us:

  1. Yuris
  2. Greenline
  3. Woden
  4. Pindicator
  5. Archduke

Alternate slates:
Preregistering alternate slates 1-5. If any player wants to re-roll I'll toss another dice 1-5 and assign them the appropriate slate.

Alternate 1:
Quote:Hojo
Kublai Khan
Julius Caesar

Alternate 2:
Quote:Saladin
Qin Shi Huang
Dido

Alternate 3
Quote:Menelik
Pedro
Gorgo

Alternate 4
Quote:Amanitore
John Curtin
Wilhemina

Alternate 5
Quote:Wu Zetian
Sundieta Keta
Montezuma

First of all, small map, not tiny, and 2 CS per player IMO.

Yeah. I'll do a small mpa with 2 CS per player. In the absence of more guidance from them I'll probably make something like Numenor:

Plop Everest at the center, do city states at the ends of the arms and at the junctions, each player has some hilly areas and bays separating them from the others. Something like the default 4-leaf clover or 6-armed snowflake maps but for 5 players.

Looks very static. I don't know Civ6 but this looks like a pure buildfest, maybe until strong ranged fleets are available(?).

I can make the center area mostly plains instead of any hills, and of course most of the goodies will be in that area. The bays will be shallow and open to galley warfare - see PBEM1 for a similar setup, which wasn't buildery at all.

TBH I'd argue against doing anything mirrored. Civ 6 just is not built right for a map, it's balanced by the imbalances, it's the randomness which actually makes the game work.

It looks like they're more interested in Seven Seas, too. I'll follow the advice here, try and roll 10 candidates tomorrow, and choose one for balancing.

It makes sense for CMF to do the rolls for the draft. I propose:

1. Pick 3 random leaders. If you pick a leader for a player that already has access to that leader's civ, you reroll.
2. There are multiple leaders with different versions. If you one is added to your draft you get to pick which one to use; including Eleanor of Aquitaine.
3. In addition to the other Civ bans, Canada is banned because it is the only civ that hampers you overall. So, the player that drafted it would only have two choices for no reason.

remind me of the total civ ban list - I often forget things like Byzantium. Right now I have:

* Kupe (messes up map)
* Simon Bolivar (great general stacking and extra movement)
* Byzantium (both leaders)(Don't remember why)
* Wilfred (bad)
* Hammurabi (weird and game-breaking)
* Matthias Corvinas (can unstoppably eat players with city-states)

We've banned Gilgamesh in the past but I don't think people really fear War Chariot rushes anymore. Let me know who else I should take out or put back in to the mix.

Civs:
-Hungry
-Scythia
-Babylon
-Basil II
-Maori
-Bull Moose Teddy

Maori might be okay on a pre-made map but players aren't talking about it, so it stays banned.
