Yeah, this is a bunch for rerolling. The only decent one is Genghis Khan and I don't want to do a military heavy game.

All but one other player has finalized a leader, so I felt comfortable to go ahead and grant you the re-roll. I had 5 slates pre-prepared for rerolls.

RNG 1-5 spat back a 4 for greenline's re-roll, so he gets:

I'm definitely feeling Wilhemina, but do we need to finalize a pick before the starts are posted?

No, I don't think so. There's no rush. I should have the starts ready by tomorrow morning.

A start that pairs well with all three potential civs. We have a spare desert hill for Nubia if I found 1E, coast for a high appeal district for Australia, and a nice river for the Dutch.

Campuses are the biggest early bottleneck for development. Without being able to see the appeal I can't tell how high Australia could get one. Dutch are looking at potential +3 initially, increasing with more districts. But a costal capital will want a harbor soon with Dutch, while Australia can coast for a bit on the extra housing. The second ring coast crabs will take foreeeever to unlock. Founding on the rice is probably the way to go here for the Dutch, the fresh water will be key and the tile picker should grab the deer quickly.

Nubia's builder bonuses are not great. 20% to districts is OK, but it's hard to maneuver most cities to get the pyramid for the 40%. The archer is great, but obsoletes quickly, so is best used for a rush early on. Not feeling it.

Dutch or Aussies. The strongest Australian bonuses in order are: free housing, the pasture bombs, and then the appeal shit. Methods for boosting tile appeal are very limited until the industrial age, so you generally have to roll with what the map throws you. And it also discourages building mines and chopping forests, typically the best way of boosting your early development. All that jungle on the map doesn't look good for appeal. Outback stations are nice for doing something with flat desert and plains, but come late. No pasture resources in sight either. So the main benefit is just the housing. Not feeling it either.

I like the Dutch, one of my favorite SP civs. The river bonus to districts is very big if there are rivers. +2 on campuses and IZs, bam. +2 on theater districts should not be underestimated either. One thing I really felt in PBEM23 is that it's hard to get culture generation going. Spamming monuments only gets you so far. Dutch can build efficient culture districts that also give the minor adjacency to the campuses and IZ / CH / Aqueducts being spammed on rivers. The main thing holding them back is just population. Another thing that PBEM23 taught me is that food in Civ 6 is really really good. The Sullla reports from the early games threw me off. Yeah, you want to build mines and work high cogs, but you need food to work those mines, and more critically, to grow to build the districts. High food will be a priority this game.

Besides the river bonus, the Dutch have a (presumably) relevant UU, cheap dams, and polders. Podlers are really good on lakes rather than sea tiles, and also come late. So it's mainly the river bonus. But the river bonus is damn good. I'm going Dutch.

I'm sorry, but it's not fair that you get to choose leader after seeing the start unlike all the other players.

I guess not. I thought the other players knew that they could wait until the starts were posted to pick? If any of the other players want to change their picks, I don't mind.

civ pick analysis:

I am now a lot less confident in my pick seeing some of the others. I had a vague inkling this was a builder game but not everyone shares the sentiment. At least I have a frigate UU instead of the useless Australian digger.

TheArchduke: Julius Caesar of Rome

I am annoyed Archduke picked Julius because that means I have to figure out how to link my 2K account in Civ 6 and that is annoying. Julius Caesar as a leader seems really bad, getting some extra gold for barbarians instead of a free +1 culture per city. The other Roman bonuses are still decent, and Archduke may make us eat our words by being super good at Civ 6. But still, bad pick.

Yuris: Steampunk Victoria of England

Now the best England out there, this Victoria gets 10% production from each IZ building in addition to the Royal Navy Dockyard and whatever the fuck the Workshop of the World bonus is. Almost like you can build Civ 4 forges! England gets no discount to building the IZ infrastructure, but when it's going, it'll be scary. Good econ pick.

Woden: Nader Shah of Persia

Nader Shah trades the unreliable war declaration bonus for a one time +5 combat boost attacking full health units, and a flat 2 faith and 3 gold on domestic trade routes, in addition to Persia's innate +2 gold and 1 culture. The 5 gold base on domestic trade routes means you can get all the gold you need without having to run trade routes to city states, which is pretty strong. The UU is also good, and the unique improvement can squeeze some extra culture and gold from marginal tiles. Good pick.

pindicator: Suleiman of Ottomans

Suleiman gets a dumb unique governor with bad abilities, 50% bonus to siege units, and a dumb musket UU that drains population when you build it. Bad pick.

Woden and Archduke are the best players so I expect them to lead anyway.
