I don't remember what kills the monastery tech bonus (Scientific Method maybe?) or whether they would pay off if the tech expires soon but +10% each with that kind of commerce is a nice gain every turn.

Thanks for the detailed report.

3 of them in the cap.  Sci Meth kills it.

I finally have access to Judaism, the AP religion.  Everything else could technically be considered off-brand, notwithstanding Deus Vult-type motivations.

An update?!?!?

I'm not sure why I'm still in this game, but JR4/refsteel can't turn their humongous CY/MFG/land advantage they've had over the last 50+ turns into a good enough snowball.  Perhaps they aren't building enough wealth and/or army and city maintenance costs are a big PITA.  They don't have a lot of cottages, but I don't think I should be making more GPT then they are at this point in the game.

They've banked a ton of gold.  A mass upgrade of cuirs or cats to cav/cannon?  Obliterate all of us with a massive research run?  Who knows.

Non-GA demos are ok as compared to everyone but JR4/RefSteel.  #1 GNP is DS.  I switched into war civics because of my relatively light army (PS-Nat-Slave-FS-OR).  I miss bureaucracy.  Drafting is nice though in some of the cities that have stagnated on coast and I sure could use some warm bodies with guns.  To that end, Assembly Line gives said warm bodies better guns and since rifles are 2pop to draft anyway, drafted C1 infantry will be just fine.  Slavery is a bit awkward, I think I would have seriously considered emancipation if I had democracy, but will help with whipping factories in the near future.  Health is going to suck very soon.

Superdeath and DS continue to eat up ipecac.  Which is wonderful as long as they don't threaten me.

I'm behind steel to DS/JR4/Superdeath, but halfway through Assembly Line (which means up constitution and corporation as well).  Also, I guess superdeath did, in fact, run the EP slider for some time.

Massive round of factories after AL and then Steel onto...railroad?  Probably railroad.

It's a lot of factors, but the prospect of updating this game rarely thrills me.  It is a fun game to play and I tend to spend a lot of time doing that.  But putting it all together is a chore.  This massive Renaissance/steampunky looming clash is kinda fun though:

That's a lot of troops.

AL is in along with factory builds everywhere.  Drafting infantry to supplement create an army.

Superdeath and JR4/Refsteel have absurd levels of power and armies.

Superdeath in particular is running what appears to be KILL_IPECAC.dll without regard to anything else that's going on:

And I also got in on the fun.  It should be noted that I have delivered the deathblow to two civs so far.  Clearly that makes me the leader in the clubhouse and favored by the Blood God.

But I probably can't let DS/hitru keep this, what with all of their 6 move galleons around.

Slowly developing culture.  Capital is going to go legendary far before anywhere else.  Kind of a pipe dream, but survival in this game will require a dogpile on JR4/Refsteel.  They also have troops everywhere and the massive CY/MFG lead.

Hitru just birthed a GE, which is a boon for them.  Jr4 and hitru are drafting me to AL.  How am I winning again?

Why put Hermitage in your capital if that city is certain to hit legendary first? Better to put it in the third place culture city that probably has less commerce (juicy cottages) available, right? Five religions ought to be enough if you spread them around and can turtle up for 50 turns.

I think I'm ready to concede.  If I'm holding up the game, we should call it.

My 3 cities won't go legendary for another 70 ish turns.  I can't keep pace with Jr4's ridiculous MFG and tech.  Staying in PS was a bad choice, but I'm not sure that US or Rep really would have made much more difference.  JR4 basically 2 turned artillery and combustion.  So we are about to all get blown out of the water by metal ships and be boated at will.

That was the big problem with even trying for culture: every good city except capitals were essentially water accessible.

If I'm reading the demos right, JR4 has 16 more tiles than you do. What accounts for the large crop yield/MFG differences? Are you running lots of specialists? Looking at your tech rate you're running 100% research and only losing ~100g/t so I'm guessing there is a good amount of wealth building. What is your tile configuration like? Lots of cottages? Workshops? How does this compare to what JR4 has?
Reply

Jr4 went full workshop/SP/CS. Very few cottages. All of his 2/4 and 1/5 tiles with the 10% empire wide hammer boost and full industrialization is apparently way stronger than my mainly cottage, but signifanct workshops and windmills. I have also fully industrialized. There are also a ton of long rivers on this map which makes watermills, and the significant amount FP watermills, very powerful. He has multiple FP watermills with levies that are 3/3/3. He just has more output from the tiles and I would assume this means he is largely building wealth/research and has builderized all buildings. For instance, I think he has a healthy investment in jails as I am also getting dominated in EP now.

A huge part of my GNP is culture as well. He’s also had his land longer than I’ve had my conquests, so his conquered cities are relatively more developed I would imagine.
Reply

And that’s another point: I am basically working every land tile that can be worked in my borders. So his bet on full communism, which I feared a while back, was the denouement of this game, after he acquired his massive holdings of course.

My only hope in this game is a massive dog pile on them. Superdeath doesn’t have AL and his troops will slowly become obsolete, hitru is close but I think would probably look at me as the easy chow instead of fighting at a tech disadvantage.

So maybe this game was actually decided long ago when jr4 got his early land from charriu and subsequently picked up gains from both WLP and ipecac cheaply.

Does this still apply?
