This game's going to collapse any moment. Its unfortunate that Sulla takes everything so personally, because I suspect his reaction to the collapse of this game is to roughly disappear from the RBCiv community. I'm not sure why anytime someone disagrees with him its some affront to his manhood.

This game was doomed from the setup, which is why a huge portion of the community completely steered away from it despite the fact that I'd say as a whole the community was quite ready for a new Pitboss.
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?

Every time I check this game it seems to be at an impasse... As has been highlighted in the tech issues topic (although perhaps not specifically stated), there are different approaches to team games, roughly:

1. Dynamic, reacting to each other team member in real time. How most online games are played.
2. Strategic only, with structured individual responsibilities. How traditional offline organisations are run.

Team 1 ("Spullarise") are clearly in the first category, and getting very frustrated with some of the other teams, who tend towards the second.

Civ lends itself to be played in the second sense, since much of the game is planned hours (or in this case, months) before an individual turn. So it's easy to see how we got here.

My gut feeling is that teamer games aren't appropriate to Realms Beyond, because most of the would-be teams are not dynamic enough. For perfectly good reasons, like being spread across different time-zones. Has the first 10 turns of game been worth all this hassle?

In terms of the initial startup, I think the reason part of the community steered away from participating was simply due to burnout after the last pitboss game. After all, a single pitboss game demands quite a big time investment from everyone involved, and not everyone's up for starting another one just after they've finished the previous one.

In terms of since then... I haven't been keeping close tabs on what's been going on, but my overall impression is that the intra-team arguments and frequent reloads have been the primary causes of the wider community losing interest in the game. Maybe I'm completely off-base there, but those are my thoughts anyway.

What a bummer. The pitboss games got me back into Civ after a 3-year hiatus.

The odd part is that Sullla gets like that only around the Pitboss games. I've played all sorts of other stuff with Sullla - many Civ succession games, Diablo, our Final Fantasy banter, long discussions in setting up several RBCiv single player events - and everywhere else he's pretty easygoing and amicable. Only Pitboss brings out this hypercompetitive disagreeable side, going back to PB2 and the double move arguments. Wish I knew why and how to defuse him here.

The part that really grates me is that Team 1 actively drove this situation off the cliff. Speaker ignored my question in the tech thread - what did they think was going to happen when they pushed ahead to play knowing that Dazed had missed the turn. They had every power to hold up and get the reload done right away without going deeper into turns that had to be replayed. What did they think they would accomplish by playing? Somehow teach Dazed his lesson to not go on business trips? Do they think they're weeding out the weak that can't keep up with the pace they want?

T-hawk, if they are only a little bit similar to myself, they probably have not had all to deep thoughts about what might happen if they play on. They will simply have thought "Fuck it, we won't reload AGAIN just because AGAIN someone was not able to play his turn despite having more then 18 hours time to log in". And then they played on wink

Apart from that, I can understand it. All those reloads and 2 months play-time for 10 turns? Honestly, I probably would not care one bit at this point if I was in this game. You need a MM-sheet, but not to get the most out of your civ but simply to ever remember what you are doing.

Also I don't agree with Dazed. He checked in the morning and it was not his turn but, despite knowing they have 18 hours to play the turns he did not check in the evening because he cannot be expected to check twice a day? I know how you feel sometimes, you are dead tired, you know you need to wake up soon, I did all that myself. But taking those 10 minutes more to at least leave a message in the general forums is imo not asked too much. But if I am wrong - and I very well might be, after all I know Dazed has a little bit more to do than I have normally - then at least let your teammates know at the start of your business trip that you might not have time. Even if you think you should have time. And if you don't do that, then you should play - even if it is late night. Or at least request a pause in the general forum. Whatever. But for me it sounds like Dazed came back late and thought "Probably it is not our turn anyway, I'll see tomorrow". And that I think is unfair against the other 11 players. He basically decided that it is not important enough to play his turn - and thats fine. But then live with the consequences and don't expect that 11 other players now change for you. Especially with all the problems they had with reloads already in this game. One might ask what Sullla expected when playing on - but maybe one has also to ask what Dazed did expect to happen?

Well Sulla's just a human too, we should give him a break. Nobody's perfect. Atleast he's still playing. I hope the players give a break to Dazed too, the guy only missed ONE turn and is clearly extremely sorry about it. Is it really wise to drive players out of the game because of one turn? It's not like there's a huge line of people waiting to be replacements and play every single turn without fail.
