Sorry guys - my original post wasn't a sign up. I noticed that lots of people missed out on pbem 3 and thought there was enough interest in #4.

BTW - I see you are planning on playing with the no score mod. Are you changing it at all (ie known tech bonus). I don't like that I cannot see my demographics in the current game. We could show your demos and the average.
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

Two things:
1) So, with the No Score mod:
Seeing your own demogs is nice. The average could be in or out as far as I'm concerned.
Also, if you could mod it so Always War removes war weariness?

The "Techs known bonus":
There are basically three options there:
Leave it at the basic game's 30% max
Increase that to the 100% of the No Score Mod
Remove it completely

I don't mind making it a little easier for teams that have fallen behind in techs to catch up, but definitely want feedback from the people playing PBEM 3.

2) That leaves us at 11 people who want to play. We can either go up to 12 or down to 10; if anyone wants to volunteer to join, or has changed their mind about whether they want to play, now is the time. Otherwise, it's not going to be a mirrored game.

I'm not sure I'll find the time to play and post, so maybe it would be best if I withdrew so the total numbers of players is even again.

try this ...
  • own score shown, player id shown for others
  • own demos shown
  • average demos shown
  • score graph shows your score v player ids
  • best score suppressed on victory conditions

I conceptualized the map last night and started messing around in world builder. I am going to wait until you guys either decide on the civ/leader pairs, or decide that I should pick them, to make the final map.

With Ruff having never been a sign-up, and Ilios dropping, we need a Green to take the plunge and join the vets.

Greens: Kyan, Malakai, seifer-md, Strike700, Jowy, Cull

Vets: Krill, Darrell, Whosit, Cyneheard

After the first three votes, here are the leader selection preferences:
(Giving 4 points to 1st choice, 3 to 2nd, etc.)

1) Let Speaker choose 6 (well, 5) pairs. (12 points)

2) Darrell's suggestion: Get a list of 8-10 leaders + civs, have each player send a preference list, and keep the middle 5 to be randomly chosen between. So, with 12 options, my #1 choice gets 12 points, on down to #12 getting 1 point. And the middle 5 leaders based on that count are chosen. (7 points)

3) Randomly pair a vet and a rookie. Each one sends their own set of 6 preferred choices (from that list of 10-12 civs). Then, a neutral party uses that to determine who gets what. (8 points)

4) Pare the list down to 6 civs. I don't see that happening quickly. (3 points)

I also vote for #1, I think we can pretty much call this one a done deal.

Ok, i'll vote for Speaker choosing just to get the game going.

As for the green/vet situation, well it's tough. Personally, i think i'm nowhere near the levels of some of the players there. I also have no wartime MP experience whatsoever- the strongest unit i've ever killed in a MP situation is a woodsman warrior and some archers lol

Due to the cutthroat nature of it, an always war game really wouldn't appeal to me at all. When i initially signed up it was with intention of playing in a regular game where diplomacy is also a factor. This would be perfect for the green game (which includes other players with more MP experience than me as well as those with less) but not a good fit for the vets game.
