@pindicator - I've not played enough with you to know your in- or out-of-game style and my lack of reporting on most games may mean you're not too familiar with mine. If

is an openness to normalizing/re-normalizing relations then I'm certainly for it.
Other than that, without wanting to go down the road of anger or insults (I played a LoL game between reading your post and typing this reply...probably the right call for me), your post contains some points which to my eyes are errors or falsehoods. I don't want to go "quote->counter-point" because I think that comes off as very aggressive, but I guess here are some thoughts...
*I didn't negotiate as any sort of ruse. I think that's obvious because I didn't really even negotiate. I asked you your thoughts, and then followed up when I spotted a settler in a city that was already planted up on me. I
certainly didn't do anything along the lines of "hey man, don't plant yet so we can discuss things [sunrise plant]." Now, I also didn't ask permission or even give you warning on the settling, but come on, we're all human. Telling a guy with a settler in the area where and when you're settling is just asking to get blocked. You've said your general settling plans were to the east, you said the settler was going east, and my own city doesn't contest any of your tiles tiles. Assuming everything you said was honest I can only guess my city is offensive because...
*...it's in your face....
five tiles from my capital. Come on man! I'm hardily a powergamer, or a civ expert. I don't expect to win this game. But there's a difference between trying to have fun and be nice in a game and
bending over. I wasn't in position, diplomatically or militarily, to try to kill your border city when I spotted it. I'm not blind though. I can spot a civ settling up on me, notice that they did it with no warning, and then see they're probably repeating the same process over and over as their land area is exploding. I was in RBP4 after all, I've seen a farmers gambit. When you're on the receiving end, and the offer of the guy planting up on you when you discuss borders is to either have Egypt not plant any cities in its first/second ring in a certain direction or otherwise cede half the land in the border area, I don't think it's a dick move to plant my cities that close to my capital without outside consent.
*I didn't "try" to negotiate borders with Mali and Rome. Mali proposed a city spot for me. Despite being IMP I agreed and settled on that exact spot. I've not done one hostile thing to Mali before or since save reminding one of their players about the existing deal when he suggested he had forgotten. As far as Rome goes, I
was prepared to make what I considered an aggressive plant at them, justified IMHO due to their early physical and diplo aggression towards me, but Rome was willing to offer a peaceful settling deal too. I was glad to follow it, and have done so. If they're trying to dog-pile me now I'm either badly misreading their public posts or there's some sort of secret deal being made outside the thread

Or, is "we don't want to hand sunrise the game" an example of a dogpile plan due to my anger at my diplomacy?
*It's true you owned up to having top land area. I honestly didn't know that was you, though obviously you were a good possibility. But I don't think I've been full of crap either. I've never lied about my demos. No I'm not going to deliberately draw attention to them, but that's pretty normal, isn't it? I don't think I've pointed out other demos to try to throw off people accusing me...nor do I think that would work. I was asked about my GDP a few dozen turns ago, and answered honestly that it was high but not tops. Anyways, the charts pretty clearly show you ahead of me in GNP (close), production (not close), food (close), and power (close). Land area is not close - you dominate me there. Now have I made more GDP
so far than you? Yeah, the area under my curve is bigger. But right now we're pretty even (my GNP is back above yours in the demos (the charts lag like two turns?) running very unsustainable binary research and my crop yield passed you when planting my new city), and you have way more land, and my civ has almost filled in every open city spot. If the biggest threat is the civ who was dominant
in the past then come at me. If the threat is the person with the best chance to win going forward, I think the demos and metagame put me in 4th place.
*Finally, I will quote one other thing:
Quote:You're right: we did have pretty good relations. But I see what those are worth to you.
They're actually worth quite a lot to me. They were worth enough for instance for me to front-load help to you, and keep doing it even after I spotted your border city. If I've committed an unpardonable sin to you...well that's your call to make. If you can convince my other neighbors working with you to crush me is ultimately in their best interest...well, that's a skill the same as worker micro or tile management. If you want to go one-on-one, I can't stop you either. I think we're both aware enough to know that anything short of a very decisive war will hurt both sides. You know my power level and I know yours. You may also know while I've never won an RB MP event I've definitely eliminated some other players from them.
Anyways, you can make my life very difficult in-game. I can probably make yours somewhat difficult too. My hope is that further reflection will make my alleged crimes against you seem forgivable. Barring that I hope you were gambling I wouldn't push back at all as you peacefully expanded right up to my borders, and then when I pushed back a bit you wanted to try to bully me into submitting. If either of those things are true I hold no ill will. We can go back to working together when it makes sense, and acting sensibly in this thread (for instance, I appreciate you not going out of your way to try to rally people again my civ, and I hope you notice I've not gone out of my way to advertise every notable thing China has done to the group either). If calling the scouting help debt paid or paying some sort of small payment in-game (if that's legal via the no gifting rules) can make things right, I'll definitely consider it. If not...well...I guess the turn reports will be more interesting
